Text-sets are described by Tovani as a sort of collection of related texts on one idea or topic. Using this strategies, students would be able to use different kinds of "texts" to explore topics within the classroom. This not only undermines the hegemonic power structure that exists in the classroom between teacher and student, but it also allows the students a sense of agency within their education that they might not normally have.

Some "fix-up strategies" from Tovani:
"-Make a connection between the text and the following:
your life
your knowledge of the world
another text
-Make a prediction
-Stop and think about what you have already read
-Ask yourself a question and try to answer it
-Reflect in writing about what you have read
-Visualize
-Use print conventions
-Retell what you've read
-Reread
-Notice patterns in text structure
-Adjust your reading rate: slow down or speed up" (pg. 6)
"If you're able to slow your thinking down a little and notice things that you do when you read content material, you can teach the strategies you use to students." (pg. 35)
