it seems June has become a month of planned reading for me, nevertheless I am hopeful of squeezing in a surprise book or two
My planned reads:

BR:
Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind
The Gene: An Intimate History
Catch-22
Eileen (continuing from May)
I Capture the Castle

PIFM CHALLENGE
A Man Called Ove
A Little Life (if possible)

Shall update if I remember more.

Catch 22 :O! Why why why? What's the catch?
A Little Life will not be possible in June for you ;)
Will join you if I'm done with Sapiens and Gene by then.
By the way, did you get equal music from anywhere else?

Ahtims (embeddedinbooks) | 47116 comments Mod
The catch is that it won the IR BOTM and as a responsible mod I have to try again :/

No Equal Music in the horizon.

Little Life is not a must read in June... it is book no. 2 of my pick it for me challenge - and I will read it only if I get a little time extra ;-)

Manju, one or two reading friends is enough to make your day. And I was fortunate enough to have a couple during my student days. Now only online reader friends.

Read the blurb... it looks promising. So we will have faces this month :)

Have been slack at my reminiscences. But reading consumed whatever free time I had left these past couple of weeks.
Catch 22 - again got the better of me.
It being an IR BOTM read for this month, I was too confident of finishing it, but a couple of days without reading, resuming the book has become a chore.
I want to feel happy or content while reading, and this book was giving the opposite effect. So I decided to put it aside, this time perhaps forever.
But who knows, one day I may get the better of it.

should I be worried about the "dream psycho thriller" bit?
😅
trust you to be thrilled about fictitious psychos

You needn't be worried. It is full of mysterious drowning of women in a lake which was used to drown witches in the past, an old lady who is a descendant of the aforementioned witches, and a young girl who has lost her mother as well as best friend to the lake, and the mother's estranged sister.
It is liplickingly delicious.

Am lost in reading. I have too many books that I want to read, and quite a few that I find insipid once I start... and I feel like the pampered child - the one who doesnt appreciate or make use of things as they should be.
when I was young I would be with a book, relentlessly reading even if it seems difficult or uninteresting, and today I am like a bee flitting from flower to flower. At least bees gather honey before flitting.
Is it good or bad?
I know not.
Only thing I know is that I should not fret as I can always come back to a book, and one thing I am sure of is that having inexhaustible reading material for a life time is much better than having limited resources.
But one good thing of having limited resources was that I was forced to slow down to make a book last, and to read, go back, think and day dream about the characters and what they would be doing/what happened after the book got over.
So for now, I will go by the 25 pages or 5% rule before abandoning a book, and will move such books to my virtual "shall read later shelf", the name itself will soothe my conscience.

Well said... I'm starting to develop these symptoms. Sometimes the tendency to run through with a book takes away all the fun... that urge is uncontrollable. I try to console myself that I'll re read some of those to enjoy them thoroughly. But have hardly picked any for re read...

Long long time since I last updated. Its just that I am lost in the magical world of books and characters and I dont have anything to say of my own.
Read about 105 books till now, planning to read atleast a 50 more... only thing I ask of my books is that they take me to magical worlds and thoughts and deeds.
I want to be the ultimate arm chair traveller, atleast for an hour a day.

Have neglected this thread so much that I am not even sure whether it will revive now.
Still, seeing Kru's journal I too got motivated.
I have made some drastic changes to my reading. Not waiting for 2018 to set in, starting from this very month
1. Read physical books that I possess with more vigor. If I am strong enough I can even pledge to buy a new book only after finishing an owned book.... but not too keen
2. Have joined weekend challenges of a close knit whatsapp biblio community. will update the challenges here.
3. Have also joined the Hunger games of Biblio village. I have to keep a count of the pages and books I finish from Sept. 5th
That too may (or maynot) be updated here.

It's difficult only at the beginning, then you will get used to it. Look at me, I rarely buy books now. But I can't wait to finish all the books I still own so I can buy again a few. Yay!

On a whim , I counted my own physical books read this year. It is a dismal 17... when I buy nearly 40 books a year. Planning to increase my physical owned book count to at least 40% starting from next month.

message 239: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca | 878 comments I am on a physical book spree now. There was a time soon after I bought the Kindle that I thought I would never look at a paperback again.. But in the last few months I read from paperbacks and I can't let go. Reading two paperbacks at a time.. The only disadvantage is that cannot carry them around like Kindle.
