Trying to find a specific book

I read this amazing book a couple of years back but I can't remember the title or author for the life of me. I remember the plot line vividly though, so I'll describe it:


It's not at all a mainstream book. Might've been a novella or short story though. I've looked through a dozen lists trying to find it and no luck. The genre was adult paranormal romance with a demon/angel pairing.

The angel wasn't a full-fledged angel and so was assigned "guardian angel" duty. There was a specific name for her job and what she was but I can't really remember. Something like Cherubim. She was assigned two more humans to protect and if she successfully finished this job, she would become a real angel and go to heaven (she had never been there before since she was born on earth and became a Cherubim? when she was like 19).

The demon was serving out his years at hell and was offered a way out of his contract if he took the souls of the two humans she protected. They were enemies at first and then they fell in love, the usual. I'm pretty sure handcuffs were involved. Their liaison was eventually discovered and she was called to heaven to face judgment, except not really. I don't remember why, but the council judging her didn't care about her relationship with the demon and were going to make her an angel.

Side plot, she used to have an angelic friend whose name started with a D. Dahariel maybe. This friend was older than she was and was about to be called to heaven for his "promotion" but she knew that if he succeeded, then he would be in heaven forever and she would be alone on Earth. Right before this happened, he asked her to guard one of his humans since another was in danger. She agreed but then let that human die. Partly because he was a shitty excuse for a human being and partly because she didn't want her friend to go. He was called to heaven anyway so she assumed he never found out and that one death didn't matter so much. Turns out, he did become a full angel but promptly fell and became a fallen angel after he found out what she did and was consumed with bitterness or whatever.

Anyway, the book ends with her and the demon being together forever, although I don't remember how everything works itself out.

I'm pretty sure this is one of Larissa Ione's Demonica or Lords of Deliverence books, but I can't figure out which one. There are a few with angels and it's been awhile since I read them. It might be or or or maybe a different one...

I've actually read all of the Demonica books and some of the Lords of Deliverance series and loved them haha. The one I'm looking for is similar to Larissa Ione's style, but it's definitely a stand alone.
