William Tracy | 96 comments Hello folks!
I write Fantasy and SciFi, and my indie books are a little bit of both, mixing magic with an interstellar community of planets. I'm also subbing to agents, hoping to get traditionally published as well, to cover all the bases!

I go to several conventions a year, usually DragonCon and maybe one of the PAX cons. This year I went to WorldCon and the Writing Excuses cruise. My wife and I do cosplay, and we dress up our critters (currently 3 cats and a guinea pig) for our annual Christmas/Holiday card.

Along with writing, I'm a mechanical engineer, and I teach Wado-Ryu karate. I also have a hat. it's a good hat. I've taken to wearing it when "being a writer" out in public.

The Seeds of Dissolution is out now!

My Novel:
The Seeds of Dissolution (Dissolution Cycle #1) by William C. Tracy

Christina McMullen (cmcmullen) It is a most amazing hat! I've read Tuning the Symphony and I really liked it! I'm a little behind on my reviews, but I'm hoping to get them all written this week. I'm definitely a fan of the world's you've created!

Oh my! Love the hat! Sure gets the attention. :)

ANd a special mention to the critter picture. How did you get them to stay together like that? (Love their hats too! :P )

The secret to critter pictures is to take lots of them...
At some random instant they'll all be still.

message 9: by Thomas (new)

Thomas Everson (authorthomaseverson) | 110 comments I am thoroughly enjoying Merchants and Maji. I'm a little slow in my reading right now, but I'm getting there! The review's going to take me a little longer because I'm going to have to put a lot of thought into it. Without saying too much, so far I have only one unanswered question, and that's a big plus for the continuity (and the review, haha).

Sure but mine would be all over the house by then. Not cooped up close enough for a picture. :) So give yourself a little bit of credit here. :)

I'll admit, there is a fair amount of chasing involved.

I William! I was at Worldcon this year as well, and I'm a civil engineer! And I write fantasy! Woot, we are in good company.

And it's good to have a signature hat, or tie, or fairy wings. Lets people know it's really you!

I've found a lot of engineers who write SFF. And there's a really weird trifecta of marital arts, engineering, and writing too!

Hmm...hats with fairy wings...

I've a scifi writer friend who does Karate, but she was in marketing. Close. But yes, there is a noticeable pattern there.

Marketing is what we engineers call "The Dark Side" ;-)

Nat Kennedy | 614 comments Ha! Well, sometimes you gotta go where the dollar signs dance. She's cured now and is a full time author. So, there is hope!

Lyra Shanti (lyrashanti) | 533 comments Hi, William! I just saw this thread and I love your kitties! I could never get mine to even slightly behave enough for that. lol

I too write a mix of scifi and fantasy! High five! I shall now check out your books. :)

Christina McMullen (cmcmullen) You seriously have the most chill cat on the planet.

message 38: by Jane (new)

Jane Jago | 1015 comments I got my sister to look at this pic. She says if she tried to get Ronald to do this there would be no skin left on her arms.

PS we think TP met Ronald then went away and wrote Greebo

message 39: by William (new)

William Tracy | 96 comments Kippy kept falling over in his bucket while we were taking the picture.

Lol. Yeah, I've met some cats like Ronald (and Greebo).

William Tracy | 96 comments NC Comic Con was a blast! Even for a small con, it was very worthwhile. I sold 29 books (31 books would have completely paid for everything) and got about 50 names on a mailing list.

So...I now have a mailing list! I'm planning to send out an ad for Tuning the Symphony when it's free during the upcoming indie weekend at the end of March, and I'll be sure to include a banner for the entire event. I did a test run with MailChimp and it works very well and produces very professional looking emails.

If anyone wants to sign up, my mailing list entry form is here:
http://williamctracy.com/contact-me/

I'm planning to put out an email maybe once a month. The next one will probably have a sample from the new Dissolutionverse book I'm working on.

I've noticed a correlation between engineering and SFF. I'm not an engineer, but I am a mathematician. And I used to do karate. Hmm.

Congrats on the NC Comic Con sales!

It's a conspiracy! Now I'm signed up for Heroes Con in Charlotte in June--by all accounts it's much bigger than this one.

message 43: by William (new)

William Tracy | 96 comments Charlotte HeroesCon is coming up next weekend! It's the 35th anniversary this year, so looks to be a huge show. Come by if you're in the Charlotte NC area!
I'll have a booth at AA-1805

message 44: by William (new)

William Tracy | 96 comments In other news, I'm putting together a kickstarter project starting in August for my next novel--going to see how this thing works. Has anyone else done a kickstarter? I think I've got it mostly planned out, but budgets are hard--everything costs more than I want!

message 45: by Lyra (new)

Lyra Shanti (lyrashanti) | 533 comments I've done an indiegogo before and it was pretty successful. Kickstarter was intimidating because if you don't make the goal, you don't get any of the moola.

Yay about HeroesCon! Sounds fun! I passed on going to the Supercon here in July. I just didn't have the funds and it's too darn hot to travel in my non-air conditioned car. lol

Anyway, have a great time and show pics afterward! :)

William Tracy | 96 comments Lyra wrote: "I've done an indiegogo before and it was pretty successful. Kickstarter was intimidating because if you don't make the goal, you don't get any of the moola."

Yeah--I'm trying to make the goal as small as possible, and hopefully activate some stretch goals to get what I really want out of the book.
Thanks!

Strike a pose! The photo of you mimicking your book cover is charming. (Or did the book cover mimic you?)
