Yeah, long story short, I've stepped down from being a moderator and in doing so accidentally kicked myself out of the group. You can blame Christina for letting me come back in. Hee hee!

That's okay, one guy I'm friends with has -1 friends, which tells you what Goodreads thinks my friendship is worth! ;-p(And welcome back from limbo!)

Emeritus Moderator. Now that's a title you can't find a use for every day. And how was it in purgatory?. Glad you didn't left us....

Nice. It smelled good there and it was quiet. And they had chocolate covered marshmallows. It's not quite as bad as people suspect.

For some reason, as a child, I imagined purgatory was a HoJo's restaurant. Chocolate covered marshmallows sounds fancier than the strawberry milkshake I was imagining.

I don't remember Hojo's. I don't think we ever had them around here. I looked up their web site and... well, they're not big believers in paragraphs, so I didn't bother going much further.

Oh! I love Denny's. I did look at the list of HoJo's still in operation. One. There is one still in operation. Sort of like my childhood memory restaurant Sambo's. There's only one of those left, too.

Awe, hell, ya! I remember HoJo's. There was one in the town I grew up in. In fact, they used to sell their packed frozen mac & cheese in an aluminum tin in the supermarket. That was before microwaves... of course. ; )
Christina wrote: "OMG! And it's in Lake George! I need to make a road trip next time I go home."There's one restaurant still open? They don't sell their mac & cheese anymore and I miss it! : (
Hey guys,
Part of the reason I was having a mild panic attack a couple days ago when I accidentally booted myself out of here is I still want to buy your ebooks. I gave details a while back in message #260. I have had a few people enter the contest, but could stand to have a million more. So, if you have not done it, please do so.
Here is that other post again:
I am setting aside fifty dollars to buy your Kindle ebooks! Now, I know some of you publish other ways, but Kindle is my preferred way of reading these days, so I am only interested in buying your Kindle books.
This will work somewhat like GG’s Indie Shelf. I am asking you leave a comment below if you want me to buy your book. I’m not making promises to read or review your book. I am only promising to buy your book. I am not super picky about genre, but if your book is humor or general fiction, I will most likely read it. Western, horror, historical fiction, paranormal and mystery have good chances to be read, too.
So, what do you have to do? Well, comment below this with your name and a link to your Amazon page. Now, along with this, I want recommendations for OTHER Indie books. I want you to tell me about Indie books you have read and enjoyed. This is crucial as I believe Indie authors should be reading other Indie authors, at least part of the time. If you do not include at least one Indie recommendation, I will not enter you into the contest.
If you follow the directions above, I will drop your name into a hat. If you can recommend three books, I will put your name in the hat two times. If I can see that you have verfifed purchase reviews on the books you are recommending, I will drop your name in three times.
On April 14 I will draw names out and start buying. I will continue to do this until my fifty dollars is depleted. And, yes, if your name is in the hat three times and you have three or more books out, this means I might end up buying three books from you.
Please note, I grab a lot of Indie books and often do not tell the author, so if I draw your name and find I already have all of your books, I will have to pass you by.
On or shortly after April 14, I will do a post with all the authors and books I have bought (I may include anyone on the list who I had to pass over due to my having their books already).
So. A brief summary: Your post below should consist of your name, your link to Amazon and your recommendation for Indie books you have enjoyed. Three recommendations will get your name in the hat twice. If you have a verified purchase review on those books, you will be in the hat three times.
Get going!

Welcome back! And what an exciting opportunity! My name is Shannon Drawe, and as I'm in the "good chance" category of paranormal, I'd love to have you add me into the pool.
My amazon link to Conflict, the first novel in my Sin City Supernatural series is https://www.amazon.com/Conflict-Sin-C... and I have just recently begun purchasing indie works since I joined GR a few months back. Over the SIA event this weekend I downloaded a dozen or so, and am about to start reading through them.
Thanks for the opportunity!

If you finish any you'd like to recommend by the 14th, just let me know so I can get you into the hat more than once!

Hi Dwayne. That's an interesting offer! My ebook is A Girl in Time, which is hard to define as it comes under Science Fiction/Fantasy/Dystopian, but definitely some paranormal and history in there too, so maybe it ticks your boxes somewhere. To sum it up in one word, really it's a story about synchronicity. The historical part is an ancient Roman Fortress and a Celtic hillfort, both of which were once right here in my home town in the UK.My Amazon link is: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01BX1G7UQ
Two Indie books I've read and reviewed are The Day War Came, and Gloves of Red Silk, both by Jamie Campbell.
I have quite a few I downloaded in the recent SIA event, but haven't got to read any of them yet.
Hello! My name is Ashleigh Reynolds, and I figured I'd throw my name into the hat. My book Paroxysm Effect is a Sci-fi with horror qualities.

Other indie books: (will be hard to keep it to 3 here)
The Last City series by Logan Keys
Savaged Lands by Lana Kortchik
Nightwalkers series by Candace Wondrak
And 1 more for the heck of it
A Sky With No Stars by Juliet Dillon

Well, I feel like I have a choice. I could write one book and get a million sales, or write a million books and get a sale on each. The latter seems the be the easier plan.

Can you square it with your conscience to so deprive the world?

It's no secret that I hope to, eventually, publish something in every appropriate genre I can. I can now tick "sports" off the list. I finished up two short stories today and published them in the sports genre.
Sir Hoopz deLoopz is about a basketball player.
https://goo.gl/CXP1pW
Although, the book has more to do with racism, the price of fame, the decline of the press, etc. than it does basketball. But, there's a little bit of basketball in it.
Wrasslers is about wrestlers.
https://goo.gl/khSx2R
Sort of. It's more a comedy about a teenager trying to talk business with an older and very successful business owner. But, there's a little bit of wrestling in there. Sort of.

Well... no. I don't think I could get away with it. I'm talking about African American lit., women's lit, gay lit.... I don't think it would be appropriate for me to try to get into those genres. There's plenty of genres for white, straight males to horse around in without horning in one someone else's parade.

Ahh. That kind of inappropriate. I'm with you there. There is indeed enough room for much horsing around within genres available to WASP authors.

Among the many indie authors I've read, reviewed and enjoyed, here are a few:
St. Griswold College for Abandoned Boys by E.M. Cooper
Sky Ghosts All for One by Alexandra Engellmann
The Inner Kingdom by S.R. Gibbs

Suddenly I'm in the mood to write a western.

I only just saw this. How extra cool of you, Dwayne!I don't write comedy or westerns, but I am a notoriously silly person. Not so much in my stories, although there are moments of funny.
I have 3 books in my epic sci-fi Shiva XIV series, and I have a spiritual fantasy, loosely based on the Garden of Eden called The Rainbow Serpent
As for other indies I recommend... I'm reading Sweet Vengeance right now, which I love! It's a paranormal romance, which I don't normally go for, but it's fun and filled with mysterious vampire adventure stuff.
I also really liked the sci-fi book A Soul Divided which had tons of action and a likable anti hero.
And finally, I haven't read it yet, but I have it on my tbr list. Déjà Moo: A Lawnmowers, Inc. Novel sounds so funny and creative. Maybe it's up your alley? I look forward to reading it soon myself.

For those who have entered, I may be busy on April 14. Shooter Jennings is putting on a concert in some dive in Iowa City and I'm gonna go see it. So, I will be doing the drawing sometime Saturday morning.

Very good, but the venue had little seating. My legs and feet were killing me by the time we left.
