I thought March was a marmy month. I'm reading a marmy!
"book you've been afraid to read" whether that means Marmy or horror or whatever. You like Marmy and horror so those wouldn't be categories you'd be afraid to read. They'd both me My scary categories.
I think Badger fits for you though. And Amy is going to go nuts over you reading that one.Bev, as usual, I don't even recognise any of your titles. :-/
Maybe I'll get a wild hair and read both. Even if I can't get through it I want to own House of Leaves, so maybe I can *try* and DNF if it's too much.
Nope, not cheating. Plus, I am more afraid that the marmy books I have will make me ragey and soap boxy more than im afraid of the books.
Hmm. That band name makes me think of 80s jazzy, synth, easy listening.

But that makes me afraid to read them. They're gonna piss me off.
Robin wrote: "Holy crap! HOL is $40 new!"I really liked House of Leaves. Keep in mind I'm a light weight when it comes to horror novels everything scares me. For maximum creepiness you need to listen to Poe's Haunted album she wrote it to accompany this book. I have to paperback but someday I want to upgrade to hardcover. The book is very unique.
That's true too, Fabi. I do need to get to them eventually.
I have been circling around the two I mentioned so it will be one of those.

I love POE! That's the only reason the book ever made my radar is because her brother wrote it! I've wanted it for years. I think I'm just going to bite the bullet and get it. It will also justify the 2nd set of shelves I want... Hmmm...
R, Have you ever read 84, Charing Cross Road?
Robin wrote: "I found one for $27! Getting better!"That's a pretty good price. I keep looking for the hardcover every time I'm in Half Price books no luck yet.

I just found it (hardcover) new from an Amazon seller for $29 including shipping so I snagged it!
bev wrote: "R, Have you ever read 84, Charing Cross Road?"No I haven't read that! I haven't even heard of it. Didn't something like that happen in real life recently where some girl tweeted a store owner and they ended up married?
Robin wrote: "I just found it (hardcover) new from an Amazon seller for $29 including shipping so I snagged it!":) Are you going to read it for your March pick?
R, do you ever order through your local independent book stores? At mine it would of been $21.
Yes, it was with whoever did the tweets for a bookstore. That was adorable.
This book is a bit different but utterly charming. I was just thinking because she is a book collector. I should do a re read sometime.

My *official* March pick is Badger, but I think I'm going to give it a shot too. I just can't commit and I don't want to force it.

I don't have local indie book stores where I am :( I do buy from Powells online which is independent. I always look there first, but this book was $50 there!
Ela wrote: "So how scary is this book?"IDK. My friend says it scared the crap out of her, but most people just consider it a mind f*ck. It's like a story within a story and there are notes in the margins and all kinds of weird stuff.
LOL I just saw where someone asked the best way to read it and this was the answer: With the lights on. While your partner is at home, not gone on a business trip. With your teddy bear on one side of you and your big, loyal, scary-looking dog on the other. And the blankets drawn up to your chin.
Badger was a 4.5 star for me... shit. March is like, right around the corner and I've read one book in February. *snort*
Grey wrote: "Badger was a 4.5 star for me... shit. March is like, right around the corner and I've read one book in February. *snort*"You're one ahead of me! Oy...
Ahhhh Badger. I was absolutely mesmerised by him. So f'd up and yet all I wanted to do was grab him and snuggle him tight. Oh how I wish I could read it for the first time again!!
I just read the blurb and reviews of House of Leaves and it looks...complicated and cerebral. I hate a book I have to work at!
Lisa wrote: "I just read the blurb and reviews of House of Leaves and it looks...complicated and cerebral. I hate a book I have to work at!"Exactly. I loved looking at all the questions and answers about it! It's going to be intense, but that's why it scares me...the effort!
Fabi wrote: "Robin wrote: "Ela wrote: "Robin wrote: "Ela wrote: "Fabi??? What's wrong with that title?"She's lost it! Look at her "good" example titles!!! Glass Surface? I swear to god I have to use that titl..."
Here you go!
“I stopped by for a reason, actually,” Darian says, pulling out a single ticket and handing it to me. “Glass Surface has a show tomorrow.”
“Glass Surface?”
“One of the bands from last night. You know, that I had CDs for? The ones with the weird looking solar system on the insert?”
“I remember,” I say, looking at the ticket. “Side stage?”
“Yeah, it’s general admission seating, except for VIP.” He takes a sip of his wine. “I thought maybe you’d like to check them out…with me.”
If this helps in everyone's selection, the "official" description for March is either a Marmy, a horror or book you have been afraid to read.

Damn it! I didn't it again didn't I? She was talking to you!
I've been in my editing cave pretty much 24/7 for the last 2 weeks, and I've hardly been on here at all, so there's no way Bev was talking to me.
So that I CAN GO BACK TO MY ORIGINAL LIST and check MY selections for the monthly challenges.... AND of course anyone else....
bev wrote: "Why are we bumping, Ela?"Hey wait...I wanna bump Ela too!!! Oh....that comma makes all the difference. Never mind :)

Umm let's not talk about cheating since someone *cough cough* is reading a book they're NOT afraid of for March
