Edition language or English?

Publishers are usually in the language of the edition. They are proprietary names and as such wouldn't necessarily be translated.Never thought of characters as they are basically an optional extra.
Characters I would suggest keeping in the original language, whatever that may be. If necessary because they are wildly different, add them again in the second language. But, as Sandra says, they're an option part of the record, so if in doubt I'd not bother :)

I was told that all information should be in the language of the edition but later found out that book formats and characters/awards (which are consistent for all editions of a book) should be in English. So should the publisher be in English as well?
Also with characters -- if, for example, only 2 books have been translated out of a long series, should the characters from book 3 onwards be kept in English or in the original language? In that case can characters be linked together?
It would be helpful if these things could be added to the librarian manual as well :)
Thank you!
