A big thank you to everyone! We have 1645 quotes covering all 1440 minutes in the day.

I was just thinking this would be a really cool app. :-)

Justin (childonflier) | 18 comments I will definitely think about an app - a new challenge!

Though for now, I will look to correct any errors people spot (hopefully not too many!).

Justin (childonflier) | 18 comments Alas, no app yet, though I did, for the the fun of it, make a twitterbot. So if you would like to have a slowly ticking literary clock, you can follow it here:

https://twitter.com/literaryclock

Otherwise hope you all are well and have a good book to curl up to this weekend. Happy reading!

Rosa (rosaiglarsh) | 5384 comments From Coraline:
“Coraline woke up in the night. She went into her parents’ bedroom, but the bed was made and empty. The glowing green numbers on the digital clock glowed 3:12 AM.
All alone, in the middle of the night, Coraline began to cry. There was no other sound in the empty flat.”

Rosa (rosaiglarsh) | 5384 comments From The Princess Bride:
“At 8:23 there seemed every chance of a lasting alliance starting between Florin and Guilder.
At 8:24 the two nations were very close to war.”

Justin (childonflier) | 18 comments Thanks Rosa! I have added the Coraline quote to the clock. I already had the Princess Bride, but definitely worth making sure!

Rosa (rosaiglarsh) | 5384 comments Great! The Princess Bride quote goes on, counting the seconds between 8:23 and 8:24. I wasn't sure if you would be interested in any of that. Also, I've requested permission to look at your spreadsheet.

Justin (childonflier) | 18 comments Thanks Rosa, now that I have a complete day, I don't really need anymore quotes - though I am more than happy to add people's favourites to the clock. I also try to not have too many from the same book, so I think those Princess Bride quotes are the best, though I enjoyed rereading the section that follows that quote describing the break down of relations between the nations.

Otherwise I am afraid that spreadsheet no longer exists (I will remove the link). Now that I have completed it, all the times are now on the website clock:

www.literaryclock.com

and are slowly being tweeted twice a day:

@literaryclock

Though thank you very much for adding those quotes!

Christi Scarborough | 3 comments Hi. At the risk of committing thread necromancy, is there any chance you could release your full list of quotes under GPL/MIT or other GPL compatible license, please? The only other alternative with every minute covered our there is CC-Non-Commercial, which is not compatible with GPL licensed software. I would like to include similar functionality in my own clock app, but without a usable data file, I'm at a bit of a loss. Thanks,

Justin (childonflier) | 18 comments No problems, I get alerted when someone posts on here. I have uploaded a file onto the GitHub repository from a couple of years ago, which used to post times to twitter, that hopefully has the data you are looking for?

https://github.com/jpwhalley/literary...

This, like everything in the repository, is under a MIT License. Also, unlike the CC licensed one, these times should also be correct for AM/PM.

Best of luck with your clock app, I would not mind seeing a working version when you are done with it.

Christi Scarborough | 3 comments Fabulous, thanks. I'll try to let you know when it's done. (The working clock is already at https://mauveine.net/ - it's designed for Raspberry Pi but also runs under X - but I'm hoping to include this as an alternative clock face.)

Christi Scarborough | 3 comments And it's done. Some screenshots in the toot below. Thanks once again for your help with this.

Justin (childonflier) | 18 comments Thank you! I will have to dig out my Raspberry Pi to try it out.

Rosa (rosaiglarsh) | 5384 comments Well done, Christi!
