BOTNS #282: BOTNS Summer Reading Bingo!

A couple years ago I decided to spy on what folks were reading on the beach at Nags Head. Fifty Shades of Gray seemed to the be favorite that summer.

With a one-word title: Faust - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
By an author who shares your first name: Chapman's Odyssey - Paul Bailey
Fantasy: Glory Road - Robert A. Heinlein
Cozy Mystery: Agatha Raisin and the Murderous Marriage - M. C. Beaton
(And for the middle "free" square, I decided to read a book I would have normally not read): Zen and the Art of Knitting - Bernadette Murphy

With an animal on the cover: A Walk in the Woods: Rediscovering
America on the Appalachian Trail
I'm working on another Bingo... just need to start a book that I think I will dislike. trying to decide what that is going to be. It may be The Interestings by Meg Wolitzer as I haven't enjoyed any of her books thus far and had no intention of reading her latest, but I may give it a shot.

Thanks to you I am reminded that I really wanted to read "Preludes and Nocturnes" I recently read American Gods and I will be excitedly starting on The Sandman, Vol. 1: Preludes and Nocturnes

I took the easy way to Bingo. I choose from my unread stacks to fill it in. Now I can tell my wife that my hundreds of unread books came in very handy.

Author of different gender: The Snowden Files: The Inside Story of the World's Most Wanted Man
One word title: Busted: A Tale of Corruption and Betrayal in the City of Brotherly Love
Free square
Number in title: One Plus One
Thriller/suspense: Bird Box
And I highly recommend

Historical Fiction: Seven Locks: A Novel by Christine Wade
An audiobook: The Night Watch by Sarah Waters
Set in the Place where you Live: The Bridge by Doug Marlette
By an author of a different gender: The Farm by Tom Rob Smith
By a Small Press: Byrd by Kim Church
What fun!

I searched on goodreads and the picking seems pretty slim for Jessica. Unless you like romance I think. I saw a cozy mystery and maybe a YA. The same author names came up many times, I guess they are prolific.

Hmm, Jessica is a tough one! This might be YA, but sounds like it has a graphic/photo element that might be interesting? Good luck!

One that is on my TBR list is
by Jessica Brockmole. It has 4 stars from other readers.
One that is on my TBR list is

I'm pretty close to done with Olive Kitteridge and am wondering if it fits the "only words on the cover" square.

Cozy Mystery: Murder is Binding
Borrowed from the Library: Still Life with Bread Crumbs
Nonfiction: Brain on Fire
Recommended in a BOTNS episode: We Were Liars
By an author of a different gender: The Farm

BINGO #3:
Longer than 500 pages: Steve Jobs
By any Bookstopia author: A Burnable Book
Graphic novel: Watchmen
Translation: The Hypnotist
That you think you will dislike: Where You Left Me (which I actually did dislike)
This challenge has been fun. It's forced me to read genres that I wouldn't normally have picked up. And I've learned a few things about myself in the process--for instance, I am not a graphic novel person. So there's that.

A novella:Annabel Scheme
By an author of a different gender: Time and Again
With a number in the title: Ajax Penumbra 1969
That "everyone" but you has read: 1984
That you chose because of the cover: The Memory Keeper's Daughter
This is so fun! I've got a few more BINGOs just about to be completed on my card, so you'll be hearing from me again soon.
Happy Reading!

I recommend The Chaperone.

10 Short Stories: ONE MORE THING by B. J. Novak
An Audiobook: FROG MUSIC by Emma Donohue
Chosen for Cover: THE UNCHANGEABLE SPOTS OF LEOPARDS by Kristopher Jansma
Part of a Series: THE RED ROAD by Denise Mina
Graphic Novel: STITCHES by David Small
This was a fun way to read for the summer :)

I recently finished reading The Major's Daughter: A Novel which is just out -- it's a novel set during WWII in New Hampshire. I liked the language, setting, and that I learned something about that era I didn't know.

I think if "Congratulations By the Way" counts as a book, then a child's picture book should count. (However I have not yet counted Congratulations, but may if it gives me a bingo!)
