This is a book series which features recurring characters. The genre is coming of age/young adult. The best one I can remember is about this girl named Maggie who's boyfriend loses his leg in a lawnmower accident. The book also feature a story about a dog and has the dog on the hardback cover with a red bandana I think. I read this around 1996/97.
