Clara Utami | 2 comments Hello all!
My name is Anita, from Indonesia. I have been a member of GR for about a year and a half, and found that it is an interesting way to keep track the books I read.

I particularly love reading memoirs, and biographies; yet, I am eager to expand my reading experience by trying new genres. This year, I aim for 54 books.

message 403: by Nandini (new)

Nandini Saju (nandinisaju) | 4 comments Hello, I'm Nandini from India. I have been a member of goodreads since October 2016. I love to read fiction, autobiographies, self-help and teen fiction. I'm a massive fan of Khaled Hosseini, the author of The Kite Runner, A Thousand Splendid Suns and And The Mountains Echoed.
In 2016, my goal was to read 10 books but I ended up reading 16. So, this year my goal is to read 50 books :)

message 405: by Ata (last edited Jan 02, 2017 10:43PM) (new)

Ata | 5 comments Hii, name is Ata and i am 26, from Sydney Australia. I love Sci-fi and Dark fantasy. Just joined the site today and still trying to figure things out but i was asked if i wanted a goal for 2017 and decided why not, so i decided to choose 14 books. But i have only read a dozen or so books in the past 2 years so i'm kinda doomed. I got into reading only few years ago honestly, because of one particular video game called, Witcher 3. I bought the Witcher saga because of this game, and it was the first time i actually read a full novel. And i was shocked how the bookworld can be so.. vivid. It wasn't just words on a paper as i had assumed. I loved every bit of it, so i decided to pursue books in its genre and got my hands on quite a few, which i have read less than half xD. Long story short, i'm still a newbie in the book world and feel free to add me if you wish :D

message 406: by Akhil (new)

Akhil Kumar Hello everyone.

My name is Akhil and I have commenced 2017 with a reading target of 50 books. I usually keep a theme for each month related to "Discovery" and read one book for that theme. January is owned by Physics, February is occupied by Chemistry and March by Anthropology. I still have to finalize the themes for the remaining months.

I read plenty of fiction along with the thematic books. I am currently fascinated by Epic Fantasies and reading the final book in the Powder Mage trilogy (good read for those who like Epic Fantasies).

I hope you all discover the joy of reading and if you already have, I hope you find incredible books to read and complete your reading lists.

Happy 2017 all and have fun reading!

message 409: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi everyone
I'm Julie from Ohio. I joined this group for a few reasons.
First, I am hoping to make some book friends.
Next, I like the fact that each person can set any goal they are comfortable with.
I've read just about every type of book, but my current interests seem to be memoirs, true crime, travel, and Southern Lit.
I'm going to set my goal at 25 .
Happy Reading.

message 412: by Kaushal pawar (new)

Kaushal pawar | 4 comments Hello everyone, I am Kaushal Pawar from Bangalore, India. I have recently developed a hobby of reading books. There is no particular genre I am interested in, since I have started reading books to get a good command on framing the sentences/situations and become better at expressing myself under different group of people I come across while taking up different hobbies.
I am wide open to suggestions for reading books as long as they are good :P.
I am quite a slow reader, so i am setting a goal of 15 books this year.

message 413: by Ilona (new)

Ilona | 4698 comments Hi Xhandra and Kaushal, welcome to the group!

message 415: by Kara (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments Hi Ata, looks like a Goodreads bug. Sometimes there are syncing issues. I'd give it a day, and if it's still showing the wrong info, you can reach out to Goodreads: support (at) goodreads (dot) com

message 416: by Ata (new)

Ata | 5 comments Thank you Kara :D I'll wait it out then.

message 417: by Justyna (last edited Jan 03, 2017 07:27AM) (new)

Justyna Tylutki | 1 comments Hey everyone :) I am Justyna from Poland. I got an email about seeting a goal on goodreads and because one of my 2k17 goals is to actually rate all of books I am gonna to read, so here I am :)

I would love to join a community to get some encouragement and motivation. I enjoy reading some new adult and romanse stuff but in this year, I'd also like to get some new, more mature books to read. I am currently using Kindle, or Kindle app on my phone to read but also have some paper books on my own.

My goal is 100 books. I set it cause I wanna check how much do I read. Hope, I'll keep it :D

Do U have any recommendations for me about new adult books?
Thanks in advance :)

message 418: by Marianne (new)

Marianne Diehl | 2 comments Hi. My name is Marianne from Vestal (upstate) NY, USA. I would love to get back into reading. My goal is much smaller than many - I am going to try for 8 books this year (a little less than 1/month) - hopefully I'll be able to beat the goal. I enjoy light mysteries, dramas, biographies, and romances. I am looking forward to more reading in 2017!

Tracy Bartash | 4 comments Hi, I'm Tracy and I'm from Pennsylvania. I love to read all kinds of books but science fiction and fantasy keep pulling me back in. I've been an avid reader since I was a small child and I will read anything and I do mean anything. When nothing else is available, I will read the backs of cereal boxes. I heard about the group on the group homepage. My reading goal for 2017 is 40 and I'm already hoping to surpass that.

That makes my Head of Department of Natural Environment! My age: 58. I love my dog, my horses, sheeps, and kois. I love cooking - Southern style! I write myself books, and I like to read. I prefer biograpfies, nature, geography, and much more. Reading is enjoying!

message 425: by Catherine (new)

Catherine (cathuluu_) | 332 comments I'm Cathy, and I live about an hour away from Seattle, Washington. Being a bookworm is easy out here, thanks to our frequent cloudy/rainy days.

While I enjoy a varied mix of genres, the mainstays of my reading diet are fantasy and young adult fantasy. I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for historical fiction, and I won't turn down any book that has even a remote chance of being considered "horror".

My goal for this year is 120 books, which I think is within easy reach as I finished 2016 having read 95 books. Looking forward to meeting my goal and making new friends in the process!

message 426: by Elina (new)

Elina (elinajohanna) | 25 comments Hi. I'm Elina from Finland. I'm answering to this because I want to use English. I'm soon 15-year-old and my own language is Finnish. My favourite genre is fantasy and young adult. Most of books I read in Finnish but I'm training my English so... I just found out I actually understand something (I read Shades of Earth and I knew all the time what was going on) and I'm so happy about it!! :) So I try to write to the forums here. (You can tell if I do something wrong. I believe I have many mistakes in my texts but I hope you understand what I'm saying.)

I don't even remember how I found the group. I guess I wanted to join inside of something and I found this.

My reading goal is 100 books. I want to read at least 30 from Finnish authors, 6 in English, 16 to the A to Z challenge and 10 to the Around the World Through the Language. I don't know can I do all the goals but at least I'm trying.

message 427: by Jeana (new)

Jeana Budnick | 228 comments Hi Elina!

Your English is pretty good. I had no trouble understanding what you were writing. As a person who only speaks and writes one language, I am always impressed by people who can speak and write more than one language.
I hope you enjoy it here.

message 430: by CinMor (new)

CinMor | 2 comments Hi! My name is Cindy, and I live in a small town called Cross Lake, Maine. Reading was always my favorite way to spend my free time until I let myself get wrapped up in following social media and playing on-line games. I want to shift back to reading as my hobby. I am competitive by nature and like a good challenge, so I thought that finding a reading group with a challenge would be just what I needed. I found this group by doing a search on GoodReads. I like reading any type of fiction.

My goal for 2017 is to read a minimum of 24 books. Looking forward to being part of this group and completing my challenge.

message 433: by Skye (new)

Skye Abrahams | 4 comments Hi everyone, I'm Skye and I'm from Montreal. I like to read a lot of things, lately I've been going away from horror/suspense/thriller and reading a lot more historical fiction. I'm at a point in the year where I'm really stressed out and I need a book to calm me down, suspense horror books do the opposite, like immediate stress attack, I guess those are for when your really relaxed and your adrenaline can take it. But I just recently finished the Red Tent and wow what an amazing book. This book is about a biblical character, Dinah, however you do not need to be religious or believe in anything to love this book. It's about how women lived during the biblical time and how little represented women are in the bible. I found this group through me procrastinating on Goodreads, my reading goal is 14 books which is not a lot compared to all these other reading goals I'm seeing. But I'm always busy and a slow reader therefor 14 is a lot for me.

1984 by George Orwell is by far one of my favorite books. It can get kinda tedious at times, but you'll be thinking about that books for many months after it. And also you'll realize how a lot of things reference this book.

message 435: by Aaryan (last edited Jan 03, 2017 07:38PM) (new)

Aaryan | 6 comments Hey guys. My name is Aaryan, from Canada. I loved reading books when I was a kid (still a kid), read through the Famous Five series by Enid Blyton when I was 6-8. I stopped reading because of video games but I am back at it! My reading peak happened when my library had a Reading challenge and I would get a medal at the end of 49 days of reading and that kept me motivated. I know I shouldn't need a reason to read... but I do. This group seems perfect. I think I read The Outsiders, The Help, The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, .Mockingjay and a bit of The Fellowship of The Ring. Around 3 chapters then I gave up because the 49 days were over and I got bored. I need another reason to read and this group, again, seems perfect. I am currently reading Divergent and The Book of Three. :)

Heya Cindy. If you need a book to jumpstart your challenge, try this one. The Help. I read it and it was a kind of boring at parts, really exciting at others kind of book. It's a fair size too. Hope you enjoy your challenge!

My name is Jenny and I am from a small village in Sweden. I am a teacher who loves literature and I am constantly looking for good novels, short stories and other texts for my own pleasure but also to incorporate in teaching. I teach Swedish and English in upper secondary school/high school (students are 16-19).

My reading goal for fiction is to read 100 novels but as I also study I will read lots of textbooks as well. I read all sorts of novels but I prefer contemporary fiction. I love discussions about novels.

All the best, Jenny

message 439: by Cindee (new)

Cindee | 78 comments Hello my name is Cindee and I am 26 years old I posted here to introduce myself. I am from a small rural town in Texas called McCaulley it is a quiet place with only a post office and nothing else. The kinds of books that I like to read are YA books of these types action/adventure, paranormal romance, thrillers, espionage, supernatural I also like middle grade fiction of the action/adventure type. The only kinds of adult novels I like are romance novels m/m or m/f or thrillers. I found this group when looking up 2017 reading challenges because last year was a slow year I read less than 10 books over the whole year. I am planning to read at leat 100 books this year there are many on my bookshelf that I bought but did not read in 2016 so I want to get them read.

I love reading but never really allow myself the time to enjoy it, but this year is going to be different, I have set myself a challenge of 52 books and hope to keep to it, so here goes! I hope to also widen my reading and venturing into books I might not have tried previously. Look forward to sharing my 'reads' with you all!

message 442: by Zouina (last edited Jan 04, 2017 07:37AM) (new)

Zouina Berthelot | 2 comments Hi dear bookworms !
Zouina is actually my cat's name... but as she's my first reading assistant, I wanted to reward her, using her name to identifie ourselves here ! (is there a better reading music than the purring of a cat on your knees ?!)
I'm French and live in Paris. It's a little more than two years that I'm reading in English only... I love French writers but reading in a foreign language is very stimulating for me, it is like having a foreign world to get to when daily life is too... let's say daily... and I think in the anglophone world, reading is much more fun than here in France, where it is supposed to be serious and sometimes boring... So, sorry if my writing isn't always at its best, I have the "Frenchy excuse" ! Most of times I read novels, I like classics from the XXth, mistery and crimes books and a few non-fiction books as memoirs. I like feminist writing too !
I've found the group wandering around this great website !
My reading goal is 45 books, I want to fullfil the big paper board I've prepared for the occasion, but I think if I read 30 of them, I'll be satisfied !

message 443: by Shannon (new)

Stéphanie Louis (phanniebeingginger) Hi guys! I'm Steph, a 21 year old communication student and I come from Luxembourg. My favorite genres are Thriller, Crime, Fantasy, Sci-Fi and historical fiction. How did I find the group? While searching for some groups to motivate me to read more. What is my goal for this year? I hope to read at least 24 books of all kind of genres in 2017 :)

message 445: by Dorian (new)

Dorian | 19 comments Hello Everyone,
My name is Dorian and I live in Rosedale, Queens which is in New York. I enjoy reading young adult fiction, romance, thrillers, mysteries, action-suspense and science fiction. However, I have also enjoyed many books that do not fit any of these categories so I am open to a good story. I found this group while browsing the "group discussion" icon on my homepage. I had a reading challenge for 2016 but I wanted to challenge myself further for 2017 so I set my challenge to 75 books. Goodreads is a great way to do that and a discussion is just what I have been looking for.

message 446: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Roberts (xoxormonroe) | 8 comments Hi, my name is Rachel and I live in Chicago! My goal for 2017 is to read 2 books a month or 24 books total for the year. I am excited to read new books and explore new genres. Currently, I am reading Red Rising by Pierce Brown. I LOVE Lauren Oliver and hope to finish the Delirium trilogy soon, and read Replica! I look forward to reading and I am open to suggestions!! :)

message 449: by Johnny (new)

Johnny Hello and Happy New Year!

My name is Johnny and I'm from the Los Angeles area in California! I love all kinds of books but mysteries are probably my favorite or anything with good characters. Stephen King is my favorite author but I don't actually like horror books or anything too scary. I just love his writing and characters. I love sci-fi and heartwarming stories too. I found out about your group because it was the first one to come up on Goodreads. My reading goal this year is 24 books. Last year I started up reading again and put 12 books and I ended up reading about 36! Boy was I surprised at that number. But I think I'll shoot for 24 this year.

Thanks for having me! Happy Reading!
