Laura Saxon | 6 comments Happy new year to everybody. I tried to read one thousand books last year, but didn't do so well, so I really decided to challenge myself and read three thousand.

message 352: by Angelina (new)

Angelina | 2 comments Hi there guys!
My name is Angelina, but I prefer Angie. I am from the state of New Jersey. My reading interests is very wide, I like anything from a sweet contemporary to a high action thriller. My reading goal is 43 books, I know that is an odd number! Not an even number! Last year, I read exactly 30 books. But, I'm bumping it up, baby! I am hopeful that this group will give me some much needed motivation, I get into reading slumps too often!

message 353: by Carol (new)

Carol Butler | 3 comments Hello everyone,

I'm Carol, from San Diego CA. I've been a reader since I was small. I remember getting in trouble for reading late in the night with a flashlight and many sleepless nights transported to other worlds. I have read less in years past because of teaching and raising my kids. I'm trying to get back into reading on a daily basis so I've set a goal of 50 books this year. I'm an eclectic reader. I read things that catch my interest- my favorite are mystery, fantasy and sci-fi since I get to travel to far away places. Looking forward to my journey this year.

message 354: by Korey (new)

Korey Kelley Heyo! I am Korey and I am from Oregon. I just found Goodreads and this group, and it sounded like something that would help me up my reading. I am interested in a lot of things where I am seemingly the only one interested (sadly, books fall into the category). I've been craving a social outlet and I think this group will scratch that itch for me.

I am a notoriously slow reader and constantly distracted. This, and a very busy school schedule have lead to maybe 4 books being read in the past 3 years. I want to change that. I've never challenged myself, so I don't really know what I can do. This group, and the fact that I am finishing my mathematics degree this year will hopefully allow me to read many of the things I have been wanting to read for years now.

I look forward to drastically increasing my catalog of read books and making some new friends along the way.

message 356: by Destiny (new)

Destiny Crawford | 4 comments Hello! My name is Destiny and I am from New Mexico. I have been a member of Goodreads for a while now but I have gotten out of the habit of viewing it. I enjoy reading fantasy fiction but will read mostly anything. I needed motivation to read so I stumbled upon this group looking for challenges. My reading goal is at least 20 books.

message 357: by Katelaine (new)

Katelaine | 19 comments Hello! I'm Katelaine and I'm from Texas. I have always enjoyed reading so you can imagine how excited I was to find this app and this group! My goal this year is to read 30 books. I'm currently reading The Underground Railroad. My favorite genre is historical fiction but I will read a lot of different types of books! Happy New Year! :)

message 358: by Charlsa (last edited May 28, 2017 05:55PM) (new)

Charlsa (cjbookjunkie) | 64 comments Hi, I'm Charlsa. I live in Plano, TX. I didn't get to read as much last year as I do in a typical year due to work, etc. I want to get back on track this year and hope that being in a group will keep me focused on my goal. I will keep my goal at 75 this year, but I hope to beat it. I read strictly accordingly to mood, but I read both fiction and non-fiction. If it's well-written, the genre doesn't matter to me. I don't spend much time in fantasy or horror, but again, if it's well-written I will give it a try. I don't think I've ever left a book unread once I start it.

I'm going with the POPSUGAR because it's a good way to discover new authors, genres, etc. I'll add some of favorite authors to my goals.

message 359: by [deleted user] (new)

Sorry for the long reply. The message got shuffled around my alerts. Bible is one I reread like crazy and study from. I also love to pour through stamp catalogues for non fiction and H.P. Lovecraft for fiction.

message 364: by Tea (new)

Tea S (tea_st) | 2 comments Hi. I am I member from 2013 but forgot about my account. How I found Goodreads? I do not know. I think mostly with the search for books on the web but you never know :) So ... I am from Slovenia (for those who don`t know - a small country between Italy, Austria, Hungary and Croatia in Europe) and I like reading, a lot. For now, I read mostly fanfiction on internet but generally I like everything which catches my interest. My goal is to read as many books as possible (so 1000 yeah :) but we will see, yeah? I would also like to chat with someone - about books, art, history of Europe, politics, cooking (I have my dreams about that) and so on. :)

message 367: by Miriam (new)

Miriam | 112 comments Hi everybody,
I am Miriam from Germany and an avid reader. I joined goodreads a few years ago, haven't really used it much, though. For this year I've set the goal of reading at least 52 books (one for each week), but hope to read more to finally reduce my 'books-to-read' pile here at home. I like reading novels from the 20th or 21st centuries, crime fiction (especially, but not exclusively Scandinavian) and sometimes historical (crime) fiction or dystopias or fantasy. I like memoirs or biographies, too. I would not say there is any fictional genre I wouldn't try reading. I generally read in German or English.

I read almmost all kiind of books, but especially I love dramas and science-fiction. My favourite writers are stephen King and Frederick Begbedder. Hi Korey, I am new to the group myself and have a similar problem: I read two/three books at a time and sometimes have no time to keep up with all of them, so I end up just like you (not reading nearly as much as I would've liked :) )

message 370: by Anastasia (new)

Anastasia (anastasiiabatyr) Hi everyone, my name is Anastasia. I work in finance and would love to have some sort of place to discuss books, get new ideas for my reading list and meet some new people. I've had a Goodreads account for a while, but had too much going on work-wise to keep it up and running.

I don't have a specific number of books for this year, but I would surely love to read a lot :) Oh and happy New Year to all of you!

message 371: by Lucas (new)

Lucas Hi everyone, my name is Lucas I'm from Brazil. I start using GoodReads today. My main goal in 2017 is read 50 books. In past year I have read 25 books. But I know I can improve it.

I like books about history, biographies and discussions about these topics.

Denise Connon Hello I'm Denise from Birmingham UK. Enjoy a wide range of book genres, but mainly crime thrillers, and the classics.

message 375: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie | 17 comments Hi, I'm Stéphanie, I'm new here... I'm from Belgium, I'm 39 years old, I love to read. Murder mysteries, romances, thrillers a bit of everything actually as long as it is fictional though, I've read some bio's too. I still prefer fictional stories.

I'm a member of goodread since a good year now, and I noticed this group, by looking through the site, I want to read more than I already am, but sometimes I get discouraged and I was hoping by being in a group it could helping stay motivated, so my goal for this year is 20 books but I hope it will be even more.

I hope that everyone will have happy reading year 2017!

message 376: by Lelivrosaure (new)

Lelivrosaure Hi,

I'm from Belgium and I'm studying to become a veterinarian.

I'm not new to Goodreads but after a few years around here I find it a little sad to have no one to talk about the books I read.

My goal for this year is 52 books, I'm not sure I'll be able to read as much because of school but let's try anyway. I mainly read fantasy but sometimes I try to read other genres.

I am so happy for you to be back in Texas. I was born in Michigan but told my Mom I would live in Texas, and by the grace of God I got to spend the best twenty years of my life there, part of it in west Texas, the rest around Dallas. My job transferred me to Florida in 1997 and I have been stuck here ever since. I miss Texas. It is the greatest place in the whole USA!

message 378: by Rona (last edited Jan 02, 2017 08:29AM) (new)

Rona (ronadareader) | 2 comments Hi Everyone :)
I am Rona and I am 37 years old. I am married and live in the South East of Ireland with my husband and our three cute cats lol

I enjoy reading genres such as Thrillers, Crime, Whodunnit-types of novels, Good Fiction, Autobiographies and Biographies, Memoirs, Historical books and Historical Fiction. To be honest, I basically read anything but, I am not really into romance-unless there is a really good story attached to it, nor am I interested in books like 50 shades of Grey.

My goal was to get back into reading , and I managed to do that somewhat last year and completed my personal target of 20 books for the year. I hope to read more books in 2017, and tackle some of the various classics that I have been meaning to read for a long time! I also want to expand my reading experiences and try books that I usually would never read.

Umm..that's about it, I look forward to getting to know you all and of course chatting about books :)

Hilary Walker | 106 comments Hello, I'm Hilary and I live near Chichester, on the south coast of England. I have two teenage daughters and a dog - my aim is to widen my reading material during 2017 and not just read 'easy' novels.
I'm looking forward to discussing books and getting to know you all.

message 383: by Grace (new)

Grace (glou123) | 7 comments Hi, my name is Grace! I've joined this group (and Goodreads) because I want to commit to reading more in 2017. I so often say I don't have enough time to read for pleasure, which is total garbage. How can I encourage my school children to read for pleasure if I am not making time to do it myself? So in my last year in my 20s I am going to treat myself and read at least 30 books this year (though I'm hoping I'll reach 50!).

Looking forward to reading with you all and also sharing in your reviews

message 384: by Acinorev (new)

Acinorev (acinorev2106) | 1 comments Hi everyone, my name's Veronica and I'm from Italy.
I really love reading classics (especially British, French and Russian literature - sometimes also Romanian, since I majored in this language at University), sci-fi and contemporary literature.
I'm currently reading "Doctor Sleep" by S. King and this is the first book of my 2017 reading challenge.
In the latest months of 2016 I had a crush on Irène Némirovsky and read many of her novels and short stories.
This year goal is to read 50 books.
I have already some titles in mind, but I'm soon moving to Canada so I'm open to suggestions (I want to discover Canadian literature, in particular Quebecois literature, since I'm going to Montréal).

Alisa (ajmaas) Hi! I'm Alisa, from Wisconsin. I'm new here, and also newish to goodreads, having joined last year. I met my 2016 goal of 216 books, and hope to read 217+ this year. I mostly read science fiction and fantasy, but enjoy a lot of other books as well, and am always looking for new reading suggestions. Nice to meet everyone!

message 388: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi everyone,

I'm Martin and have only just started using Goodreads.

I started 2016 with a vague goal of reading more and managed it, but want to be a bit more organised this year and so am aiming to read 52 books (am hoping for more as well).

I used to read a lot of History books, and have started getting back into Fiction - particularly unreliable narrators. I've also only just discovered Terry Pratchett to my shame, and am loving the Watch series.

I'm looking forward to discovering books I wouldn't usually read and having a chance to discuss them here.

message 389: by Sescily (new)

Sescily | 1 comments Hello there!
My name is Sescily and I decided that for 2017 I was not going to make a New Years resolution, but a list of things that I want to do more of, or something new to learn. Reading is something that I loved doing as a child, and seemed to run out of time doing it as I got older. I gone to you from Birmingham, Alabama and my goal is 30 books this year. I am currently reading "Under the Dome" by Stephen King. I enjoy mysteries, thrillers as well as fiction. I am trying to explore other authors and I would love any suggestions from anyone in the group.

Sescily, if you like mysteries and thrillers but wanted to branch out a little, you might try reading some sci-fi or fantasy mysteries or thrillers. I like Timothy Zahn, who writes sci-fi mystery/action/suspense mostly. (He's best known for his star wars novels, but I haven't read them.) Or I also like Brandon Sanderson: fantasy action/suspense mostly, with some mystery and a lot of good (not cheap) plot twists. I especially recommend The Icarus Hunt by Zahn and Mistborn by Sanderson.

message 391: by Micaela (new)

Micaela (booksamica) | 1 comments Hey guys my name is Micaela but y'all can call me Mica. Coming to live from Salt Lake City, Utah. I'm pretty excited to be part of this group. I've been trying to get out of a reading slump so I'm hoping this will help. My current goal for 2017 is to read 50 books. I typically read YA, I like cute love stories. I usually have to read a lot for school so it gets kinda hard to balance reading for funzies. I'm trying to start a booktube channel too. I will hopefully film my first video and post it this week.

message 392: by Autumn Rose (last edited Jan 02, 2017 01:41PM) (new)

Autumn Rose Dearborn (autumnrosenoseinbooks) Hey, I'm Autumn. Im 22 and live in Maine with my fiancé, almost 2 year old son, and dog. I've been a book lover all my life but since middle school I haven't read more then 5 books a year. 2016 was my first year on goodreads and one of my new years resolutions was to read 12 books, 1 book a month. I ended up reading 38! I've grown so much as a reader last year and now consider myself to be a book addict. I used to only read memoirs and a little bit of fantasy but I challenged myself to read more fantasy and classics last year and they are now my two favorite genres. My current favorite author is Sarah J Maas, ACOMAF being my favorite book by her so far, and a few of my other favorties are Wuthering Heights, Jane Eyre, The Secret Garden, Matilda, and Harry Potter (I'm still currently finishing the series but have loved 1-4). Whenever I have free time, aside fromplaying with my son I mean, I'm reading or watching bookTube or am on goodreads. I love going to thrift shops, use books stores, and library sales to hunt for rare and vintage books. I buy 80% of my books used because its a bargain and I think used books have so much charm. I love them! I also borrow from my library a lot. Ive read to my son every day since he was born and he already loves books so I think he's taking after me :) Thanks for the add to the group. It's great to be in such a big community of book lovers. None of my real life friends are book nerds like I am.

message 393: by Ian (new)

Ian | 2 comments Hi everyone my name is Ian I live in Kent. Uk.
Love reading been a little slow lately so I hope this book club get me moving again. Looking to read 24 books this year, two a month.

Ian.

message 394: by Shalini (new)

Shalini | 4 comments Hey everyone :) I am Shalini. I have been on goodreads for about 4-5 years now since I love to keep a track of the books I have read, plus the suggestions are quite helpful in knowing what I can read in future. I have been participating in the reading challenge for like 3 years now, and out of these years, only once I was able to finish the challenge. I love reading books and I feel so guilty because even after this, I don't get to finish the simple numbers. So, I thought of joining this group and be active so that this year I can complete my challenge. Currently, I have set up my goal of 30 books (which is the same as I had for 2016). I was 7 books behind in my 2016 challenge, and fingers crossed that I will be on track this year.

message 395: by Jacob (new)

Jacob Pandeirada | 1 comments Hi guys! I'm Jacob from Canada. I mostly read young adult and mystery novels. My goal this year is 20 books I usually start the year with a low number but end up raising it to 30 or 40 by April. I also have a goal to read more classics especially 1984 by George Orwell. My favorite books are Animal Farm, A Court of Thorns and Roses , And Then There None and Dorothy Must Die. As you can tell I up to reading almost anything because I my favorite books don't all fall under the same genre.

message 396: by zandrama (new)

zandrama | 152 comments Hi!
My name is Ida, I'm from Sweden and I'm 34 years old (I still think I'm 20-something though). I've got kids, cat, boooooks, uhm... An ex husband (my best friend), a new boyfriend (fiance maybe...) and a couple of stepchildren.

I read, not as much as I did before kids but at least a couple of books a month. Last year I had a goal to finish 20 books, and actually finished 28. This year I would like to finish 30 books. I might cheat and read a couple of comic books and add books I've read to my kids.

I try to write reviews of every book I finish, sometimes they are two sentences and sometimes they're more of a novel. My reviews vary between Swedish and English, they're often written in the same language as the book I've just read.

Well... Anyway... Hi!

Rachel | 579 comments Hi, my name is Rachel. I am from Ohio ( US) Right now I am on a non-fiction kick, but I will read mostly what I get my hands on. I was looking through the group section and found this group and wanted to join. I wanted to meet new people and get support and ideas to help me complete my challenge for this year. I have done the reading challenge for the past the past four years. I have been slowly building up. In 2014 I read 13 books. In 2015 (20). Then this past year in 2016 (30). This year goal I set at (50) but I am hoping to surpass it and read a 100 books.
