Wayne Beer (supermanbeer) | 1 comments Hi All,

My name is Wayne and I'm from Wales in the UK, I've been on Goodreads for quite a while but I'm terrible at keeping track of what I read on here (My year in books looked terrible :/ ) Which is going to change in 2017. I will read just about anything but lately I have tended to read thrillers, super natural thrillers, sci fi and crime novels. I have taken to listen to audiobooks a lot lately as well while driving or doing anything else that prevents me from actually reading and I'm loving it.

Saying that I think it's time to broaden my literary horizons so I am going to get involved in a reading challenge in 2017 (Pop sugar most likely) and I am aiming for the 40 book mark.

Wish me luck

Frode (frodevincenzo) | 4 comments Good luck, Wayne! That challenge looks really interesting, actually. Thanks for the tip!

message 253: by Bailey (new)

Bailey McDonald | 3 comments Hi I'm Bailey and I live in Southern New York. I'm fairly new to Goodreads. My favorite genres are young adult fantasy and adult contemporary, but overall I read a wide spectrum of books.

I'm hoping to read 52 books in 2017, but I hope/expect that I will surpass that goals.

I'm super excited to get to know some other readers!

Welcome Bailey! 52 books is a nice goal. One book a week. I always want to do the same. I was in New York recently, and got completely lost in the bookstores there. Spent so much on my vacation in them. Haha.

message 262: by Marilyn (new)

Marilyn | 2 comments Hello all: My name is Marilyn & I'm from Florida, USA. I am new to Goodreads, although I have done some ratings of books in the past on it. I love to read...mostly like political thrillers, legal thrillers as well as true crime, suspense, mystery also. I got an Amazon gift card for Christmas and just ordered ebook "The Girl on the Train", had hoped to see it at the movies, but never made it. I'm hoping to read at least 20 books this year, and hoping for some good suggestions and feedback from this group. Looking forward to some entertaining and interesting reads in 2017.

message 263: by Michaela (new)

Michaela | 35 comments Hi, my name is Michaela and I'm from Germany. I try to read 40 books in 2017, perhaps more :-). To take part in a challenge will help me to reach this goal (I hope).
I prefer to read Romance, YA, Mystery and sometimes Fantasy and Supernatural.

Deborah | 7 comments Hi, I'm Deborah from Australia, I used the to read a lot and want to get back into it. Getting a kindle today, my goal is to just start reading and hope that I read a few. I used to love biographies and thrillers.

Mary Pat | 2186 comments Welcome to all of our new members! It is great to see so many new posts here! You will find this be a great group of readers with some wonderful challenges!

message 266: by Kim (new)

Kim | 1 comments Hi! I am Kim from Las Vegas. I have been on goodreads for years but I have never joined a challenge before. I love all books but I have recently been reading a lot of young adult books with my 11 year old daughter. It is nice to have someone to talk to about what we are reading! In 2016, my goal was 25 books and I am currently on my 22nd book. I will probably keep my goal at 25 this year with hopes to surpass it!

message 267: by Paul (new)

Paul Christy | 1 comments Hi ... I am Paul, from southern Oregon USA. I've been enjoying Goodreads as a way to get some feedback on reading selections, and it's helped me boost my reading each year. In 2016, I set my highest goal ever: 45 books, and i finished them all. For 2017, I've set a stretch goal of 60 books, or 5 each month.

message 268: by Nik (new)

Nik (bleepnik) | 852 comments *waves* Hi, all. I'm Nik from NYC (though I currently reside close to Philadelphia). Been a member of this group for some time, now, but my level of participation is something of a roller coaster. Hope to be more consistently active in 2017. My favourite genre is YA fantasy, like Harry Potter. The only non-fiction I like to read is the occasional biography or memoir; mostly I like escaping to different and fantastic worlds.

Happy new year! See you around in the challenges. =)

message 269: by Anja (last edited Dec 30, 2016 01:27AM) (new)

Anja (anjareads) Hi! I'm from the Netherlands. I love to read fantasy and young adult, but I want to read a wider spectrum of books. In 2016 I had the goal to read 10.000 pages. But to this day, I 'only' read 8.627 pages. So again in the year 2017 my goal is to read 10.000 pages.

message 270: by Naveen (new)

Naveen mishra (nav3057) Hello everyone, I am Naveen Mishra. I am from a small town in India. I became a member of Goodreads when I bought my Kindle. I started reading novels to improve my vocabulary and the knowledge of the language.
Also, This is my first group on Goodreads. I read fiction, thriller, biographies, and self-help. I completed 11 books in 2016. I wish to read more in 2017. I get got to know about this group via random clicks. :)
Hope to involve myself in all the discussions on this group.

message 271: by Gopika (new)

Gopika Kesavaraj (gopikaraj) | 1 comments Hey All,

This is Gopika Raj from Chennai, India.

I used to be a voracious reader, now a days I hardly touch pen & paper, thanks to the gadget filled world around me. By being on a book reading group I feel the urge again to dust my long-bought-but-soon-ignored books in my bookshelf. I hope I will be soon on the road to fantasy, that only books can offer.

Oh yah.. About my goal.. I commit myself to reading 60 books in 2017, 5 every month. This is a rough idea, something to start with... but I am pretty open to other means of measurement.

I also wish to read books in as many genres as possible. I few genres that piqued my interest are Politics, World Wars, Economics, Autobiographies, Literature, Religion.
Chose these genres mainly because I have never ventured into these worlds before. My style has been mostly technology & management.

Hope the New Year gives us all the time & good luck to read more and more books to our hearts' fill.

Good Luck All...!

message 273: by Chris (new)

Chris Owen | 3 comments Hi all,
I'm Chris and I'm from Birmingham in the UK. I want to read purposefully a bit more this year and aim to read 1 non-fiction and 2 fiction books per month. I will post a review on Good Reads for each book I finish. In non-fiction I read Business books and books related to my academic research. In non-fiction. I have wide ranging interests including crime, thrillers, science-fiction, and classics.
I'm hoping to spend less browsing on screen and more time reading!

message 274: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Lewis | 1 comments Hello, my name's Mandy, I'm from Coventry in the UK.

I read most genres and if I find a series that I like, I binge read the all and then wait impatiently for the next.

I like police procedurals, horror (especially Stephen King), general fiction, biographies, historical. I'm not a fan of romantic fiction but will read anything else.

I think that I've probably been a bit too ambitious in the challenge, 50-100 books!

Ilona | 4698 comments Welcome to the group Chris and Amanda!

message 276: by Galina (new)

Galina Krasskova (tamyris) Hey folks. My name is Galina and I"m in New york. I'm waiting for goodreads to post the 2017 reading challenge so I can set my goals. I planned on 250 books for 2016, made that, and actually read 300 (more if you count rereads) so i think i'll aim for 350 for 2017. I'm in grad school so probably won't post too often, but very glad to find a group that encourages this challenge. :) it was a lot of fun in 2016.

message 277: by [deleted user] (new)

Hello! My name is Christa, from Long Island, NY! A good friend of mine introduced me to the challenge, and I was interested. I am a huge Harry Potter fan, but I am not really a fan of fantasy novels. I do like romances, the occasional mystery, chic lit and sometimes, memoirs. Always open to suggestions.

My goal for the year is 50. I have been slacking in my reading in the last year, so I am planning to get back into the groove in 2017! Love meeting new people in real life and getting lost in the lives of the characters that I meet in the novels I read.

message 278: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Calsyn | 7 comments Hi all! My name is Alicia and I am from Tomball (near Houston) Texas. I am a middle school librarian and I love fantasy books so I end up reading mostly new YA fantasy to be able to recommend them to my students! I am starting with the Texas Library Association Lone Star list for this year, but other suggestions would be appreciated! I have already started the first one so I am cheating by a couple days! ;-)

message 279: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Calsyn | 7 comments Hi Stephanie! I am with you, sister! I usually don't even finish one before I see 10 more. Oh, well! The alternative is a world with not ENOUGH books we want to read so I guess I will count my blessings that I am in this one. I am a middle school librarian in Texas. What level are your students? Alicia

message 280: by Lorelei (new)

Lorelei (goodreadscomlorelei_reads) | 393 comments Hi there, I'm Lorelei from Southern Oregon. I was part of this group until last year when life got a bit stressful and I took the year off. Well I read a lot fewer books! This year I'm back and happy to be here. I've signed up for 15 books mostly about WWII with some lighter mysteries, mostly set in England.
I'd like to thank the moderators in advance for volunteering your time and making this the best place to read.

message 281: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (sasyjenn) | 2 comments Hi Everyone, my name is Jennifer and I live in a small town in Ontario, Canada. I am originally from Scotland. I am a huge book lover like any of you. In 2016 my original goal was to read 50 but I ended up surpassing that in March. I increased my goal to 100 however I have surpassed that and will finish up this year reading over 140.

I found this group while searching for reading challenge groups, and wanted to join to challenge myself a little for 2017. I love to read romance whether historical or contemporary, I also like to read self help, biographies, non fiction and any books that are from the uk.

My reading goal for 2017 is 100 books. Very excited to get started and see what this year brings. Thank you for including me and allowing me to join this group.

message 283: by Rachelle (new)

Rachelle (getaway4fun) | 4 comments Hi everyone! I'm Rachelle and I currently live in Tulsa, OK (originally from the San Fran bay area). I like to read all kinds of books, but find myself reading fiction most of the time.

I was searching for the 2017 Goodreads Challenge and happened upon this group. Very excited to participate this year!

My goal is to read 45 books this year. I'm finishing up #37 for this year and had a blast. So may books, so little time...

message 284: by Voracious_reader (new)

Voracious_reader | 76 comments Hi! I believe this is my third year of participating.

I'm originally from Hawaii, but am now residing in VA.
I don't know that I have a book type. If I do, it changes regularly.
I found this group through browsing around GoodReads.
My reading goal is complicated. I read probably 300+ books last year. Many were children's books, but I stopped tracking somewhere around 190 or so. My 2017 goal is to read 300+ books; 25 of those will be adult books; and I WILL track everything (I hope)!

This group is fantastic. It's such a gift to be able to connect with other readers and to see what they recommend and dislike. I love this group!

message 285: by Gail (new)

Gail | 195 comments Hi! My name is Gail. I live in Nazareth, PA. I have been a member of goodreads for several years. I came across this group when I was trying to set up my 2017 goodreads challenge. I would like to try to read books outside of my normal favorite genres of mystery/thriller, romance, and true crime. I thought that by joining this group it would help inspire me to try books I would not usually read. I am looking forward to the challenge!

message 286: by Ab (new)

Ab (kabayomi) | 25 comments Where are you from?
- What kinds of books do you like to read?
- How did you find our group?
- What's your reading goal?

Hello!
I'm Yomi from Russia and a new member of this group. I've been a member of goodreads for quite sometime now but this is the first time i'm joining a group.
In 2017 I plan to read 52 books and i'm here to get some ideas, inspiration and recommendations from the community.

Favourite genres - Nonfiction, Biography, Classic, History, Business

message 287: by Boipoka (new)

Boipoka (aparajir) I'm Aparajita, from India.

I read and like most genres except paranormal, horror and self-help. I love mysteries and thrillers best though.

I signed up for a PopSugar challenge last year to expand my reading horizons. Left to my own devices, I tend to choose books similar to ones I've already read - which is a shame, because I was missing out on so many books! Last year, I discovered 51 new authors, and a lot of books and genres I loved, but wouldn't have ever read on my own.

So this year I signed up for more challenges (they're so much fun) - I'm doing PopSugar 2017, Modern Mrs Darcy and The Diversity Challenge.

Looking forward to lots of discussions and recommendations!

message 289: by Jae (new)

Jae | 30 comments Hi! My name is Jae. I'm from Sydney, Australia.
When I retired from high school English teaching two years ago, reading became one of the most important activities in my life. I start the day on reading social networks, exploring new books, new suggestions, new reviews. From this I put together my TBR list ( which grows everyday). If I don't get at least 3 hours of reading in a day I get crazy!
My interests? Everything and anything! Particularly genres that I have not encountered before. At the moment I am exploring Latin American fiction and Weird fiction.
In 2016 I finished 100 books - my goal in 2017 is to go beyond this number.

message 290: by [deleted user] (new)

Hey everyone, my name is Latifa and I am from Atlanta. I typically read a lot of urban fiction but have decided in 2017 I am going to read more outside from my norm.

I happened to stumble upon this group as I was searching through the groups for a group like this one. My reading goal for 2017 is 75 books. Year before last I was able to do 150 for the year. I was recently diagnosed with Lupus, so I try to read as much as I can to help keep my mind off other things.

I'm really looking forward to what 2017 may have in store for me.

message 291: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi, I'm Paige. I'm from Melbourne, Australia. I'm a picky reader. I prefer young adult and adult fantasy. I joined this group mainly so I can take part in the 2017 challenge as a good way of tracking how many books I've read.

message 292: by [deleted user] (new)

Ah I forgot that I'm aiming for thirty books this coming year. I'm trying to kick my book picky habit this year. I like books with good characters and well paced plot. But if the book is slow I can handle it as long as the characters are enjoyable.
