Introduce Yourself to the Group - 2017!

I found this group by looking for groups offering challenges. I like the variety that challenges bring, but since I am back in school, many of the challenges seem beyond my reach. This group offers flexibility and variety so I expect it will be a good fit.
I usually read about 40 books each year. I will likely keep that goal for 2017.

For this year, my goal was to read 80 books and so far, I'm in short of 4 books. So for the next year, I'm looking forward to more books, more adventures, more fun and to share all my insights about all that with you guys. Btw, I'm open to any book recommendations!
PS: This is my very first time to join any group about books, because here in our country, everyone reads but I can't find any reading groups. So yeah, I'm new to this. :)

If you don't know where to start, feel free to answer these questions:
- Where are you ..."
- Where are you from?
- What kinds of books do you like to read?
- How did you find our group?
- What's your reading goal?
Hi,
I'm Nina :)
I'm from Massachusetts, USA.
I like to read a lot of different genres, but lately I mostly enjoy fantasy fiction.
A goodreads friend of mine joined the group, and that's how I heard of it.
I haven't decided what my reading goal is yet, but since it takes me one to two weeks to finish a book I'll probably set my goal for 25.

My goal is for 2017 to read has much books you can and find authors..

I'm Ze Peng. I'm from a small town called Bukit Mertajam, it's situated in the mainland of Penang, Malaysia. I enjoy different kinds of genre, but my favourite ones are YA fantasy, contemporary and YA romance. I hope that I can have more inspiration and recommendation on new books. In Malaysia, it's very hard to find friends that read English novels and if they do, it's almost the same books. Therefore, I decided to join this group to discover more books. My target for next year is 60 books, I do hope that I can make it. Excuse my English, I'll probably make a lot of grammar mistake. By the way, Merry Christmas and Happy new year everyone!

My name is Priyanka. I'm from Hyderabad, India.
I've tried to read in the past but could never completely commit to any goals.
I'm in YA, romance, fancy and historical friction.
In 2017, I plan to read 40 books. I hope I'm not being too modest and manage get through the year. (Making a public announcement/commitment so that I stick to my words)

Thank you for the welcome and a Merry Christmas to you too.

I just really started looking around on your group and love the challenges. The monthly ones seems to suit my taste the best. Most of the time I read Contemporary books, Inspirational, and sometimes Historical Fiction. Oh, and I will listen on audio books from writers like Stephen King, and fantasy like Terry Goodkind.
I like going out of my comfort zone when reading books, so the challenges will be a lot of fun. I found my favorite author by going out of my comfort zone a few years ago. I totally got bored with stuff I was reading, started to seem all the same. So, I got online and started to search for a topic I wouldn't normally read. I found Angela Hunt with The Fairlawn Series. It's about a funeral home. I started doubting as to why I'd read this, and thought, hey, I wanted something totally different. I loved the series. And, she is such a good writer. The Fairlawn Series is three books, and each one just got better and better. It's funny too and not morbid. So, that's how I found a new writer.

I'm italian, but I actually live in Brazil (therefore I apologise for my "exquisite" English skills)
I read all types of books, except for those romance ones with rather corny characters and cliche or happy outcomes. In fact, I very much enjoy tragedy lol
My goal for 2016 was 30 books, and I've got two more to complete my challenge! Sadly, I won't be setting up any big goals for 2017, given the fact that it'll be my final year at high school so I won't have as much time to read as I please. Not to mention that I would probably feel gutted if I failed to achieve any reading goal.
But I want to read at least 1 book a month!
It's a pleasure to meet all of you!

I love reading all types of books, but I've found myself reading a lot of young adult fantasy lately, which I wasn't into before. Before that, I was mostly reading Stephen King or Dean Koontz.
I joined Goodreads a few years ago, but I was on a long break from reading after college. Not intentional, but I found myself burning out because of all my high-level lit classes.
My goal this year is to read at least 1 book a week or 52 books this year. If I can fit in a bit more, that would be great! I also had a really rough year due to my mental illness, so I'm hoping to read more books about bipolar, those who face bipolar, or self-help books.

My name is Matilde Kaja.
I'm from Denmark and just started reading (for fun) a year ago. When I was 8 years old i loved reading, but I stopped for some dumb reason. But now I am back, and I read a total of 15 books this year (pretty proud). For 2017 my goal is to read 30 books.
Wish me luck! and good luck to everyone else (;
xoxo

When I was younger I used to read lots of YA books, but I'm not into this genre anymore. Today it's mostly about predictable plots and naive, irritating characters, with some exceptions: a few titles which I've had much fondness for.
I may seem boring, but I'd rather stick to a few favourite genres like classic literature, historical ficton and non-fiction: biography, memory, history. I'm a fan of Russian literature (I consider Dostoevsky my favourite Russian writer) and appreciate a lot my native one, Polish, especially for great poetry and Romanticism's works (which many Polish students hate for being obligatory to read). I'm currently learning history for an exam and I'm going to study Eastern Europe so I tend to include a lot of historical literature related to it on my shelves, especially about Poland and Russia, but the fact is I'm fond of any.
I pay attention to nice, neat covers (however I won' buy a book if I'm not interested in content, of course) and albums, mainly about art.
Also, I sometimes re-read books from my childhood, because they mean something to me: the title of one of them is my name, because my mother loved this book when she was a little girl (and I loved it too).
1984, Animal Farm, Crime and Punishment, The Karamazov Brothers, Lolita, Anna Karenina, The Master and Margerita, The Great Gatsby, Harry Potter, The Hunger Games (only the first two), Pet Sematary, Nie-Boska Komedia (The Un Divine Comedy), Dziady (Forefathers' Eve), Balladyna, Lalka (The Doll), Wesele (Wedding), The Divine Comedy, The Sorrows of Young Werther, Faust, Macbeth, Hamlet, Romeo and Juliet, The Trial, The Metamorphosis, Madame Bovary, The Help among others are my favourite books.
Like I said, Fyodor Dostoevsky is my favourite Russian author, but also George Orwell made an impression on me as well as I appreciate Adam Mickiewicz, William Shakespeare, Leo Tolstoy, Vladimir Nabokov (for the language in Lolita, I fall in love with a good literal language easily).
Listing all favourite (Polish) poets would take too long, because there are plenty, but Krzysztof Kamil Baczyński is my poetic prince.
I'm not crazy about completing a reading challenge for any price (seriously, some people should calm down and think for what reason they took part in it). I'm going to read 40 books in 2017, because I think I can do this.
That's all.

As far as what types of books I like to read I am a mutt. I like to read anything and everything that keeps my interest. I tend to lean more towards sci-fi vampires, werewolves and witches genre BUT I love me some chick-lit, romance, mystery, thriller etc so I can't really narrow it down. I do love finding a series to read though so I look everywhere for good ones.
My goal for 2017 is 50. It's a good starting point I think because I've never been involved in one and have always just read when I had time etc.
Looking forward to getting to know everyone and maybe even develop some book affairs with you :)

I literally read everything. Currently, I am reading the Game of Thrones series. I honestly will read anything as long as it is a good.
Since I am so busy, my reading goal is 24 books: two a month. Hopefully I can be able to read more!
I am looking forward to talking about books with fellow book lovers. Not a lot of people in my friend group read, so it's exciting to be able to discuss books!

Hi! I'm not sure if I can help, because most of my shelf is about the specific events, periods or people rather than the overall view on the region's or countries' history.
However, if speaking of Poland I can recommend something:
Poland: A History by Adam Zamoyski (I read this one. Though I can't recall details it's quite a good example of Polish history in nutshell)
Heart of Europe: The Past in Poland's Present by Norman Davies (Haven't read this yet so I can't say personally if it's good or bad)
God's Playground: A History of Poland, Vol. 1: The Origins to 1795 + God's Playground: A History of Poland, Vol. 2: 1795 to the Present by Norman Davies (same as above)
I'm not sure about Davies though. I haven't read his books yet but had a chance to get familiar with some fragments. I absolutely can't agree with some of his statements. He tries to be objective but I wouldn't say he always understands everything or is right, but well...I'm not an expert after years spent on studying history professionally (or I can't be objective about my own history though I try to be...).
I suggest to start with Zamoyski's book if you're interested, especially that Davies is rather "tough" for beginning.
What about the rest...same, I can't find a lot general ones at the moment. Or I maybe I could but I don't want to throw titles without having any idea what they are. I also have these:
Borderland: A Journey Through the History of Ukraine by Anna Reid
The Reconstruction of Nations: Poland, Ukraine, Lithuania, Belarus, 1569-1999 by Timothy Snyder
Let me know if you're looking for something more specific than that or just look through my shelves, maybe you'll find something interesting ^^
P.S. Better write me a private message, because I guess it's not a topic for that.

I've been an avid reader since I was young but only read maybe 5 books in 2016 (just finished The Girl on the Train). Looking to complete 25 books in 2017 & get back in my reading groove.
My favourite genres are probably thrillers and historical fiction, but like a lot of others I enjoy most genres.
Look forward to getting involved!

I am an avid reader, which caused me to become a book blogger and reviewer at LILbooklovers. I have met so many great authors and read so many great books, and I want to share my love of reading to y'all! Please view my blog and subscribe to it and share it with your friends!

My favorite book genres include young adult, historical fiction, dystopian, humor, and Catholic books and apologetics. Still, I like to read anything that either interests me or an author would like me to review (anything to help an author!).
My goal is to read 52 books in 52 weeks, and I'm trying to see if I could beat this year's total (63 right now). I stumbled across this group when looking up challenges, and I joined it ever since! I haven't been active for months, but I'll start participating more this 2017!
Hope you will check out my blog! Thanks! Nice to meet y'all! I hope to make more reader and author friends!

Wilmer you pretty much doubled your goal of 20 thats awesome what is Clarity about?

In fiction, I'd love to read more Virginia Woolf, Penelope Fitzgerald and Mavis Gallant in 2017. I'm also hoping to read atleast a few translated works of fiction based in the South American continent.
I'd love to make some new friends via Goodreads, feel free to add me :)

My name is Pam and I'm from Indiana. I'm a bookseller at an independent bookstore so I guess I can be called a professional reader :). However, despite to what most people think, I can't actually read on the job :(.
I mostly read fiction, the more character-focused the better. I'll also read history & religious studies.
I am a part of a reading challenge group on Facebook but at the end of the year I plan on leaving it for a more apolitical platform (and reducing my Facebook time a lot). I was looking for alternatives on Goodreads and here I am.
I'm not sure what my goal is for 2017, but I'm thinking 104, maybe a bit more. This year I have "read" 310 books, but more than half of them were children's picture books & cookbooks I read for the nature of my work. I won't count those in my official numbers here but may note them anyways for anyone curious.
Also, because of my job I'm graced with the ability to get advanced copies of selected books 1-6 months ahead of release. If I read them I'll make a note of their release date.
Thanks for having this group. :)
