Camille Cramer | 1 comments Hi, I am Camille! I live in Texas! I love to read fantasy. But lately I've fallen into a romance hole and haven't figured my way out. I love books! I love reading so much. I get so engrossed with a book I cnat put it down. One thing to know about me is that I read very fast. It is a blessing and a curse at the same time. It's a blessing when it comes to school work but a curse when it comes to buying books. I almost always have no self control when it comes to buying them yet I finish in a day. My 2017 goal is a lot lower than my 2016 one. In 2016 I set a hefty goal of 100 books. I didnt come close at all. I got to 30 before high school started back up and I didnt have anytime to actually finish books. So this year my goal is 20 then if I pass that goal I will increse! (side note: I forget to add books to my library most of the time and I reread a lot of my favorites year round)

Sowmiya (puravidaa) | 4 comments Hi, I'm Sowmiya and I currently live in Texas. I have had a GoodReads account for over a year now but have been using regularly only in the past couple weeks. I have always enjoyed reading fiction and currently, I'm inclined towards reading Indian authors, for I see a piece of myself still missing home :)

Hi Michele, welcome to the group! As I was told when I joined this groups it's a goal of 12 books, it's not the quantity but the quality that counts. So as long as you're enjoying what you're reading, that's the most important thing.
I usually read two books at the same time, a paper one during the day and a digital one at night. That helps me a bit to stay concentrated since I can switch. Also being a part of this group, especially joining the buddy and group reads, helped me a lot to rekindle my passion for reading and motivates me to read more.
I read IT quite some time ago and just loved it too. The movie is coming out soon so I'm looking forward to that too.
I wish you good luck with your goal and happy reading! Looking forward to see what you'll be reading!

Audrey Foreman | 33 comments Hey y'all - I'm Audrey and I'm from Southern Illinois. I'm a lifelong reading junkie.
I love to read and will crack open just about anything. I've been looking around and I'm having a hard time deciding which challenges I want to do!

message 1360: by Amal (new)

Amal (amal_el) | 2 comments Hello, my name is Amal and I live in Belgium but I'm from Moroccan ethnicity. I love to read all kinds of books but my favourite genre is definitely fantasy. This year my challenge is to read 30 books, I'm at eleven right now. So I have 19 more books to read before december 31st. Let's hope I'll make it. I'm still trying to discover how Goodreads works, so any advice is welcome. I created my account in August 2016 but I only started really using it for the past few days.

message 1361: by Susy (new)

Susy (susysstories) Welcome Amal! I think you'll enjoy this group and the challenges, buddy/group reads and support it has to offer. Just have a look around and if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask. It looks more complicated than it is, at least that was my experience when I joined the group last January. Looking forward to seeing what you will be reading! Good luck with your goal. I've found this group very helpful in reaching my goal: started out with 12, upped it to 20, then 24 and I'll probably surpass that too. But above all I wish you happy reading!

message 1362: by Amal (new)

Amal (amal_el) | 2 comments Thank you Suzy. I wish you a happy reading as well. And hopefully you'll surpass your new goal again.

message 1363: by Zoe (new)

Zoe Deal | 4 comments A little late to the party but that's me all over really. I'm Zoë, I'm 24 from the UK. My current reading goal is fifty I believe and I'm hoping that I'll complete it as I'm sure I've read over 40 books so far. Helped along by two months off work unable to go out though. I read mainly adult (Sci fi, fantasy, lit fic, non fiction, crime, psychological thriller, horror) with a side of YA fantasy and Sci fi. Comics and graphic novels too. Dipping my toe in Manga. I hate reading hyped books in the midst of the hype. I tend to wait a few months, to a year before reading a hyped book. I always worry I won't enjoy it as much as I'm being told I will. Any recommendations are gratefully received.

message 1364: by Susy (new)

Susy (susysstories) Welcome Zoë! Sounds like reaching your goal will be a piece of cake :) Will you be raising your goal or maybe joining any of the challenges? I really love the buddy and group reads myself. Also my TBR list is growing exponentially just by reading the reviews of the group members! I hope you will enjoy this group as much as I do and wish you happy reading!

message 1365: by Bungadewi (new)

Bungadewi (missbungadewi) | 22 comments Hello all! I know it's August already and I'm pretty sure I come late to the reading challenge party here, but I'm Bunga (you can ask me a lil' explanation about my nickname story, I'd gladly tell you) and I'm from Indonesia. Currently, I'm fighting to reach halfway of my 2017 reading challenge. I've been in a reading slump for 2 or 3 months now and it sucks. I read all genres as possible, but my faves are SFF, thriller, mystery, contemporary fiction, manga, all in both adult and YA genres. And I welcome any recommendations from you. Well, I think that's all about me. Have a good reading!

message 1366: by Susy (new)

Susy (susysstories) Hi Bunga, welcome to the group. It's never to late to join! I had been in a reading slump for over 5 years! This group has really helped me rekindle my passion for reading and get back to it. I hope it'll work the same way for you too! Good luck with your goal and happy reading!
And please, tell us what's the story behind your nickname? You made me curious!!

Thank you for the warm welcome, Susy. Yes, I really hope so. This group looks great and I'm eager to discover more.

Well, about my nickname, actually it's a pretty lame story. So, back then, my brother was very certain that he would have a baby sister, so he already picked a name for me. Hence, the nickname 'Bunga'. After my birthday, my father named me 'Bungadewi' (that's my middle name), but my grand mother disagreed with it and demanded a more traditional name, so it was changed to 'Puspitadewi'. 'Puspita' is a Javanese word means, simply, 'Bunga' (flower).

message 1370: by Moangulo (new)

Moangulo | 6 comments Howdy there! I know I'm a little late to the party but after two days of browsing this group, I had to join.

My name is Monica and I'm from Texas. I enjoy reading all sorts of books but tend to pull toward fiction most frequently. I found this group by browsing through groups. My reading goal is to read over 30 books this year and try to reach for books that I typically would not.

message 1371: by Susy (new)

Susy (susysstories) Retna Puspitadewi wrote: "Well, about my nickname..."

Please excuse my ignorance, but why would Bungadewi not be a proper name? And does "dewi" have a particular meaning? I noticed both names end like that.

If you have any questions about the group, please don't hesitate to ask!

message 1372: by Susy (new)

Susy (susysstories) Welcome Talal, Mohsen and Monica!

message 1373: by Catalina (new)

Catalina | 1 comments Hey!
I am from Moldova and I turned this days 20. I saw the group being recommended for the new members and I joined. Hope to meet some new friends here.
I adore to read. I was always famous at school for reading faster and better than the others deed, so that's why today I am starving for good books after I finish the old ones.
I like to read almost every type of book. But i prefer sci-fi and some romantic books, but not that much about love.
I like books that talk about real life events and that try to present me the story as I was there, living it.

I'm glad to have found and joined this group!

message 1378: by Jakeb (new)

Jakeb | 1 comments Hello everyone, I'm Jake and I'm from England. I have a very serious reading addiction and joined the group to meet others with my affliction and possible find a few good books to read. As the years progress good books (that I haven't already read) get harder and harder to find :(

message 1379: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Grønsund | 6163 comments Welcome Jake!
I recommend the group reads and buddy reads in order to (hopefully) find great books you haven't already read :) Also, you can always suggest books you might be interested in reading as buddy reads and meet tons of people with similar tastes that way.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask!
Goodluck with your reading challenge :)

message 1380: by Susy (new)

Susy (susysstories) Hi Jake! I completely agree with Lisa and recommend the group and buddy reads. As to finding fellow addicts, I think you've come to the right place! Looking forward to see what you will be reading!

message 1383: by Roxanne (new)

Roxanne (radiantrox) | 115 comments Hello everyone!
My name is Roxanne, born and raised in NYC.
I have a huge, ever-growing TBR pile of books that is quite diverse. I enjoy reading fiction, biographies/autobiographies/memoirs, self-help/professional/spiritual books and occasionally some sci-fi/thrillers. I'm trying to read more classic lit and branch out with some of my reading choices.

I found the group by looking for it as I could use some more accountability in reaching my reading goal. I've pushed myself to try to read 60 books this year. I had a slow start this year but I've picked up more books last month and this month and watch less TV to try to catch up. With so many books I want to read in my lifetime, I definitely want to read way more than I have in past years. I used to feel like reading more than 1-2 books at a time (aside from juggling books when I was in school) would be too confusing and slow my progress, but now I find that having a rotation of 3-4 books at once is helping so much with my desire to complete more books.

I just finished re-reading The Handmaid's Tale (which I first read senior year of high school) and it's still one of my favorites!

message 1384: by Susy (new)

Susy (susysstories) Welcome Roxanne! I'm trying to watch less tv and read more too but besides being hooked to reading I am hooked to tv series... Good luck with your goal and happy reading!

I'm sorry it took me so long to reply. I was busy reading. I'm so happy that my reading mood is back and I've been reading almost nonstop since then. So, about your question, it was because my grandmother preferred the traditional Javanese name than the Indonesian one. And 'dewi' means goddess. But, to be honest, I never ask my parents about the whole meaning of my name. I just know that it is a good prayer for me.

Yeah, I have one question, if I found some discussion group I would like to join, but there are already a list of participants of it, can I join? For example, the discussion groups about Lunar Chronicles series that I just found.

Hi Retna, you're welcome to join the buddy reads! You can either post here or in the topic itself that you would like to join, and Mary Pat will add you to list of participants. Keep in mind that buddy reads of the previous months won't be as active as the current month, but you can still post your reading experiences. Looking forward to hear what you think of the Lunar Chronicles :)

Ofcourse, you can! Feel free to join any buddy read you like, even if your name isn't on the list :) The more, the merrier.
