Introduce Yourself to the Group - 2017!

- it is fascinating to discover all the places around the world we come from (traveling is a favorite and I've been to several countries but now want to travel more)
- even though I started with this group in January I never formally introduced myself!
So, I am Kim É from Evansville, Indiana ( we are at the very bottom of the state against the Ohio River on the left corner next to Illinois). I can get to Nashville Tennessee, St. Louis, Missouri and Cincinnati, Ohio fasting than to Indianapolis, where I lived several years and still miss.
Professionally I was a Clinical Director and provided supervision of 2 programs while also doing intensive, specialized therapy for some of the most damaged children and teenagers etc in Indiana and part of Kentucky.
I loved my job but one day (was 39) I woke up and ended in the hospital that night from a stroke which led to retirement. I talk better than I understand, get confused easily especially when I'm tired, cry easily, and because I take much rehearsal and practice to learn new things. I use the phrase "give it to me at a kindergarten level" and it has taken Goodread's pals to help me learn how to do the easy tasks on here(I still can't get how to move something on here like a badge I've earned put onto either my personal log or at the top of a challenge in a thread) .
There have been blessings in my health issues. I was home all the time and available to a fantastic daughter as she finished growing into a the millennial she is now, I can enjoy all my creativity outlets, and I'm getting to read all the books I've missed over the years (once I learned to read again which took 3 years and lots of tricks).
My favorite genres are mystery, psychological thrillers, and true crime (I have yet to read a book that comes close to the situations my kids had), but am starting to read classics, biographies/memoirs, and love history. Two goals that will take a while is to read books from around the world, and to read at least one book about or by every president and every First Lady, as well at least one book about specific issues that happened during their presidency ( Watergate, Vietnam, Civil Rights, California gold rush, Gasden Purchase, etc.).

I am so sorry to hear about your stroke, and how that has affected your life. I think that you must be very brave to accept your situation, and to be able to share your story with us. It is amazing that you are so positive, I cannot imagine how frustrating it must have been not being able to read, but I am glad that you are now able to enjoy your forced retirement by reading everything that you didn't have time for before. It must have been, and probably still is, a long road to recovery for you, and I wish you all the best along the way.
Best of luck with your reading goals and please don't hesitate to ask if you need help with anything here!

I also like to read books from by native land(but sadly I kind of suck in Nepali language and I mostly read of English translated books.)I want to complete my challenge within this year.

Thanks Ilona, nice to meet you!

I also have a YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC1Su...
My favorite genres are romance, fantasy (though I've only read a few), chick-lit, magical realism, middle grade, cookbooks, and craft books!! Some of my favorite authors are Nicholas Sparks, Kristen Hannah, Debbie Macomber, and Sarah Addison Allen!! My Goodreads goal for 2017 is 5 books! So far this year I haven't even read one! 😞 I hope this help me to get motivated and read the books on my TBR!! Currently I'm reading Savour the Moment (#3 in The Bride Quartet) by Nora Roberts.
Happy Reading and God Bless

Thank you for such a warm note.
Maybe I should not have written my intro? :-) Right after I spent the last days in the hospital after a horrible fall in my home that centered straight on the left side of my face/head. They thought I had another stroke but instead I'm just all cut up and suffering from side effects. Life is always an adventure!
Hello! My name is Armida and I'm from Albania. I love reading clasicc but I read other generes too. I have chossen 24 book reading challenge for this year but this doesn't mean that I will read only 24... it's all about my free time. I use goodreads to see how others comment a book which I have read and in this way I found this group

My reading goal for this yr is 30. I've read 5 so far and currently reading 2. lol I'm actually quite behind so I need to kick myself in the butt and get to reading!

I'm Gisela I am from a small tiny town in Norway but currently live in the capital with my husband and our super spoiled cat Alfie. I'm legally blind but that does not stop my love for reading it just means I need a little extra gadgets to read ( though most days a simple 5x magnifier and reading glasses 3+ will do)
I Like to read contemporary/drama, YA, Non-fiction, middle grade, true crime, fantasy etc.
Found the group 'cause someone liked my updated reading goal.
My reading goal is currently 75 this might change. I started the year wanting to read 40 books, then up to 60 and now at 75. I've read as of yesterday 60 books, I put my challenge at twice what I read last year cause I lost my job in December '16 and now got a lot of sparetime in '16 I read 27 books my goal was 20 and in '15 (my first year doing the challenge) I read my goal of 50.
This year I'm doing a lot of readathons and I'm trying to do 2 book bingos (Library + Diversity)
I'm also trying to use the Library more as I neglected to do so while I was working.

I enjoy reading all kinds of books but my favourite genres are fiction, fantasy, crime, romance.
I was browsing through groups and stumbled upon this group.
My goal is to finish 50 books in 2017.I love to read and listen to audiobooks.Happy reading everyone!

Anyhow, it's lovely to see everybody's fascinating choices for their 2017 Challenge. Good luck to all of you, and I hope very much to talk books with other members of the group.
TTFN.

I enjoy all kinds of books, maybe apart from horror stories and really heavy sci-fi ;)
I'm totally new to goodreads, so I found this group just by randomly browsing the page, and thought it would help me stay motivated to read this year :) Hopefully with time, I'll figure stuff out, 'cause I'm still not entirely sure how this all works haha.
My reading goal for this year is 25, and sadly, I am very much behind at the moment! I'm currently in my first year of uni, so that's taking up most of my time, but I'm hoping to really get back into reading as soon as my summer vacation starts :)

Not real good at introducing myself, so using Kadijah Michelle's suggested bulletins:
- Where are you from?
New Jersey
- What kinds of books do you like to read?
Urban Fantasy and Paranormal mostly, but have been trying to expand my repertoire in the types of books I read. I'm open to suggestions and discussions, as I often tend to get lost within the lovely confines of paranormal and urban fantasy.
- How did you find our group?
I was looking for active groups that would stimulate me reading wise. This group looked really good.
- What's your reading goal?
I set my Good Reads challenge to 12 books this year, but I would really like to make it 24 or higher (average 2 or more books a month). So far I am only at 6, though am close to being finished another book. I have a little more free time lately, mostly due to the time of year, than usual, so I will be able to read a bit more, hopefully rack up past 12 books. :)

I set a goal of 25 books this year. I've read 15 so far. I'm currently reading The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-time Indian by Sherman Alexie.

If you keep up the pace, I'm sure you'll have no problem with reaching your goal :)
Good luck with it and welcome to the group!

I've just joined Scribophile! If you are a member already or thinking of becoming a member, make sure to drop by and say hi to me. :) My pen name is Ecem Yucel. Hope to see you there! ^^

My name is Mike and I'm from Sydney, Australia. I'm new to this website but I love books and I'd love to connect with others who love reading.
I love autobiographies, biographies, history and horror. I'm currently reading The Surgeon of Crowthorne by Simon Winchester.
Thanks for having me and I can't wait to dive in and get started.
Mike H.

Hi Susy.
Yes I am planning on joining the group challenges. Where would I find the information, in one of the threads I'm assuming?

Also, I'm from the US but I live in China now. I'm interested in reading on many sorts of topics. I just finished reading Confessions of an Economic Hitman; The current books I'm reading are Norwegian Wood and Germs Guns and Steel; and I'm interested in reading Crime and Punishment, among many others.
Can anyone help me find out how to find a reading buddy? I'd like to start reading books with others to share our thoughts with each other. Let me know if you are interested. If you suggest a good book and have good reasons for reading it, odds are I'll check it out.
My favorite genres are Business, Classics, History, Philosophy, Psychology, Science, and Travel
Thanks!
Charles

Yes, you'll find all the information for each particular challenge in the threads.
yearly challenges
quarterly challenges
monthly challenges
There are also a bunch of buddy reads happening during the month of July aswell as several planned for the upcoming months. And Slaughterhouse-Five is the group read for July, if you'd be interested in joining in for that one :)
Have a look around and feel free to jump in on the challenges or other group activities if you want :) And please don't hesitate to ask if you need help with anything!
Best of luck with your reading goals!

Welcome Charles!
I just want to get this straight...The 70 books you've read so far, have those been in the course of a week? If that's the case, that's fantastic.
I think you'll find that reading more won't be an issue whatsoever after joining this group :)
As for buddy reads, you can see the ones that will be ongoing during July here.
Feel free to join and discuss if any of them grab your interest. If you, on the other hand, have a particular book in mind and would like it to read it with someone, you can suggest it on this thread.
As long as there is a minimum of two that are interested, a thread will be created and will be posted around the end of each month.
You can check out any information I may have missed on the first post here.
Don't hesitate to ask if you have any other questions :)

And if all else fails, stalk people. I'm only joking, of course. What I mean is on the update feed and here you can see what others are reading, and sometimes nothing beats the direct approach and asking people directly if they'd be interested in a buddy read.
At least that's what I do. That and browse through people's bookshelves (gasp! my secret is out)

Hi Lisa
Thank you so much for the information,I'll be sure to look at the challenges. The book for the July read looks interesting so I'll have to get it

I was wonder how your monthly group reads work. I was that they are broken down by groups of chapters. Do you read the chapters in each group within a certain time frame or is everyone working on it at their own pace? I'm excited to join in for July and don't want to miss anything!

There is no time frame for the monthly group reads. Everyone starts whenever they want and can within the month and read at their own pace. Splitting the book into sections make it easier to discuss things without giving anything away to others that may not have gotten there yet :) Still, please do remember to mark spoilers.
The topic is closed for new comments after the end of the month. And there is a general discussion section, aswell as a review section you can contribute to if you wish.
