hi nicky welcome . Had a question i clicked on your profile and noticed that you were reading the mortal instruments series . I have thought many times about reading it myself but never went through with it because it just seemed to for lack of a better word simple for me. However I love the television series, so my interest has been peaked all over again. I was wondering what your thoughts on the books were .
thank you
also if anyone else reads my comment and has thoughts on the book series feel free

Amanda | 29 comments Hi, my name is Amanda and I am from St. Paul, MN. I was a part of this group last year, but failed miserably! This year I am planning on actually reading the 50 books that I say I am going to read. I love classics and YT books (I am a teacher). I am going to try to expand my reading and read more genres this year though.

Hi Christina!

You are right, I have been reading the mortal instruments series or I should say re-reading most of them. I started reading them a couple of years ago when I was travelling (I don't even remember how that happened and why) but never finished the full series as, back then, they weren't even written.
I was able to buy the whole series a year or 2 ago for a very good price and have been thinking about reading the last 2 or 3 books to finish off this series... unfortunately I didn't remember which ones I'd already read and which I hadn't so I started rereading the whole series at the end of last year.

It's true when you say that they are a bit 'simple' to read, and mostly I just want to finish this series (I can't stand not having read them all) but at the same time I quite enjoy reading them. It's a little mindless reading and you do get engrossed in them while reading (fair warning: there are some parts you have to plough through because the story sometimes just slows down incredibly)

I do like the tv series as well, but that's mainly because of some good casting as the story has been adapted from the original book quite a bit.

I'd say just give them a try, they are fun to read and you might just find yourself willing to read all the other prequels and sequels afterwards as well :D ( I know I probably will, if only for the sake of completionism lol)

becki☆ (beckinuttallx) | 2 comments Hi, everyone! :)

My name is Becki and I'm from Manchester, England. I love reading books from any genre, but my favourites are YA, science fiction, horror, crime, classics and fantasy!! My goal for last year was 50 books, but unfortunately, I'm a psychology undergrad and uni and assignments got in the way of my reading, so I didn't manage to reach it, but I'm hoping this year after I graduate, I can finally sit around and read to my heart's content and reach my 2017 goal of 50!

I'm also open to any suggestions on new books to read, so if you have any recommendations, I'd love to know!! Good luck in your reading challenges and I hope you all have a lovely day :)

message 905: by Cat (new)

Cat Dino (willaabaee) Cheers everyone! I am Caitlin and I am from Richmond, VA. I have been on and off Goodreads for a long time, so currently, this is my on time. I found the group because I was looking to talk to/discuss new books as I have recently read 3 pretty exciting books and I can't seem to find my next one yet. So I am up for any suggestions anyone might have. I really like Thrillers and Mysteries, more the Thriller side. I also like Realistic Fiction and usually read YA for that. My 2017 reading goal is to read 85 books. Because I am a librarian and do Storytime, some of my books are from that, so I may add more to that goal. As of right now I have read 37 books, so I am always looking for more things to read! Thanks everyone! Happy reading!

message 907: by Shannon (new)

Shannon (slee_a) Hi, I'm ShannonA from Canada - I pretty much read every genre of book, am interested in all subjects. I found this group through a Goodreads search and my 2017 reading goal is 200.

message 908: by Sheila (new)

Sheila Hi, my name is Sheila. I live in a VERY small town in rural Oklahoma. I read a wide variety of genre's. My favorites are mystery/suspense and general literature. This year my personal reading challenge is only 45 books. If I can exceed that I will increase my goal next year. I look forward to what everyone else is reading; I'm always looking for recommendations

Bookreader87(Amanda) (bookreader87) | 55 comments Hello to all. My name is Amanda and I am from Southern California. My favorite genre of books to read is romance. I found this group well browsing good reads book groups. I have been a member of good reads since last October but I have not really been active until recently. I love reading books and I would like to interacts with others who do as well. I have been on a book binge since last year and managed to get in over 200+ books from the end of May to December. My reading goal this year was initially 365 but I may have been overreaching it so I am setting my goal to 300 and I am making good progress. I am up for any recommendations :)

My name is Marcy. I live in Maryland but I'm originally from Washington State. I'm a voracious reader. It's my favorite thing to do, so I thought it would be great to talk to some like-minded people. I'll read anything, but I especially like sci-fi/fantasy. My goal for this year is 50 books.

message 915: by Ava (new)

Ava Lee Hi all, I'm Ava. I am from China and will soon move to South Korea.

I like many kinds of books especially crime, philosophy, and novels.

I get to know this group by searching on Goodreads.

Most of the books I read were in Chinese, and I would like to discover more original English books in the future. Since it's the beginning of my reading English books, I want to set a very small goal - 7 books for the rest of the year. :-)

message 916: by Shubhansh (new)

Shubhansh Vatsyayan | 2 comments Hi All,

My name is Shubhansh and i'm from Bengaluru, India. I've been on goodreads for a while now and this has helped me a lot in my reading habits. I'm a big fan of Fantasy, thrillers, historical fictions and to a slight amount i like biographies and romance novels. For past two years i've been reading 20 books a year. Its not much but its at least something. This year i plan to repeat the feat if not better it. I'm planning to expand my reading horizons and any suggestion is more than welcome :)

message 917: by Anne Hawn (last edited Mar 31, 2017 07:48PM) (new)

Anne Hawn Smith (hawnsmith) | 146 comments Hi folks, I'm Anne and I have been doing the challenges since 2011. I'm reading 150 books this year, but I am really focused on my huge "Currently Reading" file of about 70 books and a number of the physical books I have around the house and need to finish and pass on to someone else. The file is so big because I have a number of books like Les Miserables or The Rise and Fall of the Third Reicht which will probably have to be tucked in my coffin. I also have a number of books that had to go back to the library, books that I used as sources for my granddaughter's homeschool and thought I'd like to finish them myself, books that my Kindle put in "Currently Reading" because I opened the book and so forth.

I'm listing all my books, but I really need to focus on the log jam and get at least 30 books off the list.

message 918: by Eirelyn (new)

Eirelyn (ladyeirelyn) | 1244 comments Hey, everyone. :) I go by Eirelyn & I am from the US. I have been on Goodreads for several years but have not participated much in the community here. I was invited to this group by another member (Stefani/SpelingExpirt) when I mentioned wanting a good book club to join. I'm excited to start reading with other people.

I like an array of genres, so long as they have fantastic character development -- that criterion is at the top of the list for what I consider to be a good book. The genres I enjoy most are Dystopian, YA Supernatural, Classics, Mystery/Whodunit & Psychological Thrillers.

I would like to read more Horror, Chick Lit & Historical Fiction (I'm a little picky about the historical events I read about, however).

I have forgone reading for longer than I care to admit & would really like to get back into a good reading habit! XD So, right now, my reading goal is not a number of books, but rather to read a little bit every day (preferably at least 1 chapter), just to get back into a daily reading habit.

Feel free to message me. I'm open to book discussions & recs & general chatting awesomeness. :D

message 919: by Erica (new)

Erica Zgorzynski (ericalynn104) | 3 comments I'm Erica. I live in Colorado. I'm a teacher so a lot of what I read are kids books, but I recently subscribed to a book of the month club so I've been reading some new books that I wouldn't have normally picked! My goal is to read 30 books this year!

Kelli McNamara | 2 comments Hi everyone! I am so excited to come across this and equally upset I didn't find out about Goodreads earlier! But, better late than never :) My name is Kelli and I loveeeeeee reading. I'm gong to answer the questions they suggested since I'm new to joining online groups and have no idea what I'm doing!

- Where are you from? I'm from Rockville, Maryland, USA
- What kinds of books do you like to read? I mostly read fiction - really any kind.
- How did you find our group? Online - I was googling book recommendations and group forums, and Goodreads came across and it seemed so appealing and kind.
- What's your reading goal? I want to read 50 books this year.

So, thanks for having this forum everyone! I'm very excited to be part of this.

Kelli

Hi Kei, welcome! I haven't been in this group long either. I'm always looking for more books to add to my TBR list (although I haven't got a clue when I'm going to read them all lol) so when you hit a 4 or 5 star book, I'd love to know!
Happy reading and I hope you'll enjoy the group! I know I am ;)

Lissa Ann Slaba | 2 comments Hey everyone!
My name is Lissa, and I'm from Presho, SD. Small town in the middle of no where. I have always been an active reader, but living in a small town, I had little opportunity for book clubs. I joined Good reads to meet new people and discuss all the wonderful tales I have read. I am finally at a place where I can spend time on chat groups, and discussions, and I'm excited to get to know more people!!
I love to read all kinds of books. I have two favorite authors-John Grisham, and Nicholas Sparks, and legal thrillers are my absolute favorite!!
I will read almost anything though. I love recommendations!!
My goal in 2017 is to read 36 books. 3 books a month. I have boys, so we spend a lot of time running outside also. :) Cuts into my reading time. :)

I'm from India, presently residing in France. I read almost all genres of fiction though I prefer thrillers and mystery. I do enjoy court room drama but these books take me along time to finish.
I am currently catching up on Ken Follet books that I have missed during my college years !!
I have never managed to read fantasy but I want to start with Harry Potter this year !!

I found this group on a search for groups to join and I have set myself a target of 50 books this year, so thought I would join this group to discuss with like minded people.

message 938: by Mohsin (new)

Mohsin | 1 comments Hello everyone!
My name is Mohsin, from Pakistan. I am new on this site. Actually this is the first group I joined, hoping this experience would turn out well. I don't consider myself that much of a reading, but as I am reading more and more, I am getting into it. I don't have a specific genre when it comes to reading, so I am open to all suggestions. Although I like spiritual self-help novel, but any good read would do it!

message 940: by Aysha (new)

Aysha (ayshabee) Hi everyone!

My name is Aysha and I live in Nashville, TN. I have been a member on this site since last year, but never really explored until recently. I was having a very hard time finding a book club that met consistently, so I thought I would give this a shot. Typically I read a lot of true crime books, but recently I have been really interested in SEA authors and have added a ton of them to my increasingly massive wish list. One genre that I have never quite been able to get into has been fantasy, but I think that is because I haven't stumbled across the right book yet. I am totally open to any and all suggestions.

Lirika (erikabooklover) | 1 comments Hey everyone, my name is Erika and i live in a small town in Germany, called Ulm. I've created an accout in Goodread since 2012 but i am only using it now. So you could say i am new here. First things first i wanted to join a group where we could learn more about each other and the goodreads comunity, exchange experience and book advice.
My challenge for this year is only 25 books. I feel pretty bad when i see you guys reading up to 150 books per year. I cant keep up with that for i am also studying at the moment. Another reason is also my booktype. I am 20 years old and the only books i like (and i do live by them) are classics. I also like the philosophical ones and for my studies i mostly read books about math and management.
I am very exceited to be part of the group and i hope i get some good book advice from you guys.
Have funn reading ❤

Hi all, I live in a small town about 35 miles outside of Boston, Massachusetts (where I was born and raised). A few years ago I found Goodreads, signed up, tried the book challenge a couple of times and gave up because I just wasn't reading much. I'm trying again, this time attempting to be realistic given competing priorities like work ... sigh. So my goal is 18 books and I've completed 4 so far. I enjoy fiction (contemporary, historical and young adult) as well as some non-fiction (historical, cultural, political and travel-related). Science fiction and fantasy are not my thing; however, I loved the Harry Potter books and The Mists of Avalon is one of my top ten best ever books. Anyway, I'm trying the book challenge again and hoping for success. And despite the fact that I own enough books to last a lifetime I'm always looking for suggestions.

Hi Mary, welcome and good luck! I too am trying to get back to my reading, a thing I just loved to do until a couple of years ago. Started of with 12 for this year. So I think 18 is great! As long as you're enjoying yourself, that's the most important thing!
