Introduce Yourself to the Group - 2017!

Hi Christina!
You are right, I have been reading the mortal instruments series or I should say re-reading most of them. I started reading them a couple of years ago when I was travelling (I don't even remember how that happened and why) but never finished the full series as, back then, they weren't even written.
I was able to buy the whole series a year or 2 ago for a very good price and have been thinking about reading the last 2 or 3 books to finish off this series... unfortunately I didn't remember which ones I'd already read and which I hadn't so I started rereading the whole series at the end of last year.
It's true when you say that they are a bit 'simple' to read, and mostly I just want to finish this series (I can't stand not having read them all) but at the same time I quite enjoy reading them. It's a little mindless reading and you do get engrossed in them while reading (fair warning: there are some parts you have to plough through because the story sometimes just slows down incredibly)
I do like the tv series as well, but that's mainly because of some good casting as the story has been adapted from the original book quite a bit.
I'd say just give them a try, they are fun to read and you might just find yourself willing to read all the other prequels and sequels afterwards as well :D ( I know I probably will, if only for the sake of completionism lol)

My name is Becki and I'm from Manchester, England. I love reading books from any genre, but my favourites are YA, science fiction, horror, crime, classics and fantasy!! My goal for last year was 50 books, but unfortunately, I'm a psychology undergrad and uni and assignments got in the way of my reading, so I didn't manage to reach it, but I'm hoping this year after I graduate, I can finally sit around and read to my heart's content and reach my 2017 goal of 50!
I'm also open to any suggestions on new books to read, so if you have any recommendations, I'd love to know!! Good luck in your reading challenges and I hope you all have a lovely day :)

Awesome we are probably not too far from each other. Which library?

My name is Marcy. I live in Maryland but I'm originally from Washington State. I'm a voracious reader. It's my favorite thing to do, so I thought it would be great to talk to some like-minded people. I'll read anything, but I especially like sci-fi/fantasy. My goal for this year is 50 books.

I like many kinds of books especially crime, philosophy, and novels.
I get to know this group by searching on Goodreads.
Most of the books I read were in Chinese, and I would like to discover more original English books in the future. Since it's the beginning of my reading English books, I want to set a very small goal - 7 books for the rest of the year. :-)

My name is Shubhansh and i'm from Bengaluru, India. I've been on goodreads for a while now and this has helped me a lot in my reading habits. I'm a big fan of Fantasy, thrillers, historical fictions and to a slight amount i like biographies and romance novels. For past two years i've been reading 20 books a year. Its not much but its at least something. This year i plan to repeat the feat if not better it. I'm planning to expand my reading horizons and any suggestion is more than welcome :)

I'm listing all my books, but I really need to focus on the log jam and get at least 30 books off the list.

I like an array of genres, so long as they have fantastic character development -- that criterion is at the top of the list for what I consider to be a good book. The genres I enjoy most are Dystopian, YA Supernatural, Classics, Mystery/Whodunit & Psychological Thrillers.
I would like to read more Horror, Chick Lit & Historical Fiction (I'm a little picky about the historical events I read about, however).
I have forgone reading for longer than I care to admit & would really like to get back into a good reading habit! XD So, right now, my reading goal is not a number of books, but rather to read a little bit every day (preferably at least 1 chapter), just to get back into a daily reading habit.
Feel free to message me. I'm open to book discussions & recs & general chatting awesomeness. :D

- Where are you from? I'm from Rockville, Maryland, USA
- What kinds of books do you like to read? I mostly read fiction - really any kind.
- How did you find our group? Online - I was googling book recommendations and group forums, and Goodreads came across and it seemed so appealing and kind.
- What's your reading goal? I want to read 50 books this year.
So, thanks for having this forum everyone! I'm very excited to be part of this.
Kelli

Hi Kelli, welcome to the group! We are very excited to have you.
Good luck with your reading goal! How is it going so far?

Welcome to the group Kelli and best of luck reaching your goal :) If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask!

Welcome Kei. Well that's a happy accident!
Is there such a thing as having read too many books? I hope you'll enjoy the group and participate in the challenges :)

Hi Kei, welcome! I haven't been in this group long either. I'm always looking for more books to add to my TBR list (although I haven't got a clue when I'm going to read them all lol) so when you hit a 4 or 5 star book, I'd love to know!
Happy reading and I hope you'll enjoy the group! I know I am ;)

My name is Lissa, and I'm from Presho, SD. Small town in the middle of no where. I have always been an active reader, but living in a small town, I had little opportunity for book clubs. I joined Good reads to meet new people and discuss all the wonderful tales I have read. I am finally at a place where I can spend time on chat groups, and discussions, and I'm excited to get to know more people!!
I love to read all kinds of books. I have two favorite authors-John Grisham, and Nicholas Sparks, and legal thrillers are my absolute favorite!!
I will read almost anything though. I love recommendations!!
My goal in 2017 is to read 36 books. 3 books a month. I have boys, so we spend a lot of time running outside also. :) Cuts into my reading time. :)

You have found the right place to meet fellow booklovers and to discuss your favourite books :) Good luck with you reading goal!

You're off to a good start with your reading challenge. Keep it up!"
Thank you and will do !

I'm from India, presently residing in France. I read almost all genres of fiction though I prefer thrillers and mystery. I do enjoy court room drama but these books take me along time to finish.
I am currently catching up on Ken Follet books that I have missed during my college years !!
I have never managed to read fantasy but I want to start with Harry Potter this year !!
I found this group on a search for groups to join and I have set myself a target of 50 books this year, so thought I would join this group to discuss with like minded people.

Happy Reading!"
Thank You IIona :)

My name is Mohsin, from Pakistan. I am new on this site. Actually this is the first group I joined, hoping this experience would turn out well. I don't consider myself that much of a reading, but as I am reading more and more, I am getting into it. I don't have a specific genre when it comes to reading, so I am open to all suggestions. Although I like spiritual self-help novel, but any good read would do it!

My name is Aysha and I live in Nashville, TN. I have been a member on this site since last year, but never really explored until recently. I was having a very hard time finding a book club that met consistently, so I thought I would give this a shot. Typically I read a lot of true crime books, but recently I have been really interested in SEA authors and have added a ton of them to my increasingly massive wish list. One genre that I have never quite been able to get into has been fantasy, but I think that is because I haven't stumbled across the right book yet. I am totally open to any and all suggestions.

My challenge for this year is only 25 books. I feel pretty bad when i see you guys reading up to 150 books per year. I cant keep up with that for i am also studying at the moment. Another reason is also my booktype. I am 20 years old and the only books i like (and i do live by them) are classics. I also like the philosophical ones and for my studies i mostly read books about math and management.
I am very exceited to be part of the group and i hope i get some good book advice from you guys.
Have funn reading ❤

Welcome!

Welcome Erika! Well, now I feel embarrassed.....my challenge for this year is 12 books!! And I'm not studying (although I do have a very busy job). Good luck on your challenge!

Luckily, we have a ton of challenges to help you tackle that tower of books. Happy reading!

Thanks! I really nedd it!
Hi all, I live in a small town about 35 miles outside of Boston, Massachusetts (where I was born and raised). A few years ago I found Goodreads, signed up, tried the book challenge a couple of times and gave up because I just wasn't reading much. I'm trying again, this time attempting to be realistic given competing priorities like work ... sigh. So my goal is 18 books and I've completed 4 so far. I enjoy fiction (contemporary, historical and young adult) as well as some non-fiction (historical, cultural, political and travel-related). Science fiction and fantasy are not my thing; however, I loved the Harry Potter books and The Mists of Avalon is one of my top ten best ever books. Anyway, I'm trying the book challenge again and hoping for success. And despite the fact that I own enough books to last a lifetime I'm always looking for suggestions.

Hi Mary, welcome and good luck! I too am trying to get back to my reading, a thing I just loved to do until a couple of years ago. Started of with 12 for this year. So I think 18 is great! As long as you're enjoying yourself, that's the most important thing!

hi nicky welcome . Had a question i clicked on your profile and noticed that you were reading the mortal instruments series . I have thought many times about reading it myself but never went through with it because it just seemed to for lack of a better word simple for me. However I love the television series, so my interest has been peaked all over again. I was wondering what your thoughts on the books were .
thank you
also if anyone else reads my comment and has thoughts on the book series feel free
