Mia (msbooksandstuff) | 6 comments Hi, everyone! I'm Mia from California. I'm 20 y/o, and am currently a third of the way done with my 60 books in 2017 challenge so I might up the ante and try to get to 100. We'll see! I love contemporary fiction, mystery, dystopia, memoir, literary fiction, philosophical works, speculative fiction, non-fiction and poetry. So kind of a mixed bag.

message 805: by Maris (new)

Maris (maristocratic) | 147 comments Hey there! My name is Maris, I'm from Estonia, which is a small country in Eastern Europe. I decided to challenge myself to 50 books this year, which is more than I've read in years. I'm just trying to get my love for reading back and joined the group for some much needed motivation :D I love YA, fantasy, romance, dystopian mostly, but I pretty much read any genre as long as I like the book :)

It's nice to be a part of the group :)

message 806: by Elia (goldenlyre) (new)

Elia (goldenlyre) (goldenlyre) Hey I'm Carrie! :) I'm from central California which is a huge agricultural area (but my family doesn't own a farm lol). I really like reading YA comic books and fantasy fiction books. I really want to be more active on goodreads and interact with more people so I skimmed through a list of groups and found this one. In 2016 I tried to read 500 books which was totally unrealistic but I set it as the goal anyways lol, but I only read 223. This year I set the goal to 250 which is something more realistic considering comicbooks don't take too long to read. So anyways yeah! :)

Gretchen Torres (stitchwitch1224) | 11 comments Hello! My name is Gretchen. I am a middle school Language Arts teacher and a rabid reader.
Last year I read 56 books. Hoping to double that this year.
I mostly read fantasy, but challenges really get me out of my comfort zone.
I look forward to reading with you!

Michelle (thegirlwithalltheebooks) | 2 comments Hello my name is Michelle, I'm from a little country of Central America called Honduras, I love to read any kind of books... I don't have a favorite kind. I've been part of Goodreads for a while and I wanted to belong to an active group so here I am. My reading goal is 60 but I'm planning to read 80 I just dont like to fail

message 810: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (delta108) | 11 comments Hi, my name is Dawn, I live in a suburban just north of Milwaukee, in Wisconsin. My reading style is open. I don't like to narrow down to just one genre. I see I'm starting late, so I'll check back to December as to what I was reading and see where it fits in.

Ilona | 4698 comments Hello Gretchen, Michelle and Dawn, welcome to the group!

Gretchen wrote: "I mostly read fantasy, but challenges really get me out of my comfort zone."
That's the great thing about the many challenges in this group, you can read books that you wouldn't normally read. :)

Michelle wrote: "I've been part of Goodreads for a while and I wanted to belong to an active group so here I am."
You've found the right place!

Dawn wrote: "I see I'm starting late, so I'll check back..."
You're never to late to start participating in this group, feel free to jump into the challenges any time you want! :)

Happy reading!

message 813: by Isabelle (new)

Isabelle | 1 comments Hey! My name is Isabelle and I am from Canada. I like to read all kinds of books but mostly I like historical fiction and reading books set in different countries. I love travelling in general and I like to travel through litterature as well. I found this group when I noticed I had goodreads notifying me that it was time for the 2016 reading challenge. I don't know how long it had been up there, but it got me thinking that I should challenge myself to read a little more, now that I am out of school. For the past little while, my reading goal has been to at least read a book a month. But I want to challenge myself, and now that I have more free time, my challenge will be to read 24 books this year. I've only read 3 this year so far, so I am a little behind.. but I will try my best to catch up.
-Isabelle

Josè Alberto | 3 comments Hello guys! My name is José Escoto and I´m from El Salvador. I found this group in the suggestions of goodreads. It´s my first time in a reading group, so I hope the experience would be great and I look forward to learn from you and be friends. I love novels and clasic literature above all. My reading goal is 40 books for this year. It´d be a challenge because I´m trying to develop the habit of reading, but it´s exciting at the same time.

I´m glad to be here. Let me know if you have any question! Have great day guys!

message 817: by Nancy from NJ (new)

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) Hi! My name is Nancy and I live in New Jersey. I am a bookaholic and generally read 100 books a year. I enjoy contemporary fiction and historical fiction especially saga books. I am a retired high school teacher and considering how much I love the written word, I became a teacher of business subjects. There are two genres that I rarely read and they are Fantasy and Science Fiction. I live Challenged and participate several so I look forward to this challenge and getting to know other members of this area.

message 818: by Ben (new)

Ben (befaster) Hi everyone! I'm Ben and I'm from Victoria, BC (on Canada's west coast). I work in the museum and cultural/heritage tourism fields. I like to read a variety, but mainly find myself reading non-fiction (especially history about the Second World War - my subject area in school - travel/adventure, and recently some biographies) and science fiction. I found the group just by looking around Goodreads' community page. I have been thinking of finding a book club in the last few months, but likely don't have the time to commit or enough people my age with similar interest in doing a club to do one in-person. So this group seems a good way to ease into something!

I had a reading goal of 15 last year and met that goal, so jumped it up to 20 this year. I think it will be easy to meet this goal as I'm pretty settled into my job and have taken up audio books while I commute. It's a good way to get an hour of reading in each day!

message 819: by Jen (new)

Jen Prentice Hi I just joined this group! My name is Jen and I'm from a small town in Massachusetts that even most natives have never heard of. I love to read all kinds of books, and my dream is to one day own a bookstore. I like YA, Romcom, fantasy, historical fiction. and women's fiction. One summer when i was in college I read 13 books. Since graduating, starting a family and buying a house, i seem to have slowed down alot. I am hoping to read 12 books on 2017.

message 820: by Randy (new)

Randy Hi my name is Randy, of the female variety not the male variety...yes, I know it's confusing. I don't know if my parents are lying when they say they didn't want a boy or if thy were just weird. I've lived with them and I am leaning toward weird. I live in Pennsylvania with my family. I love to read. I read, on average, a book a day. I love the Classics, Historical Fiction, Christian Fiction, well, basically everything except Horror, or Erotica. My goal this year is 150 books but that will go up. Last year I think I read 250. I was trying to give myself a break this year but that's not going to happen. I can't stop reading. :)

Thank's for having me..

message 824: by Sarah (new)

Sarah P | 53 comments Hello everyone!

My name is Sarah (!) and I'm from Montreal, QC, Canada. French and English speaker, I read books in both languages and in pretty much any kind of genre, with the exception of romance maybe, even though my participation in the Vaginal Fantasy Book Club might change that.

I found this group through a comment a person I follow made on the March 2017 Women Challenge and I decided to participate. You can see my post with my humble three book pledge on this discussion thread.

My challenge for 2017 is to read 52 books. I work a lot and I study, so summer will be a critical time, when the days are long and the homewors are non existent. The Goodreads challenge thing counts the little comic books I read as part of the challenge, but for me, I was thinking 52 "real" books, meaning novels or at the very least graphic novels, not 20 page comics. Do you know if there is a way to unselect some read books from the GR challenge thing? Let me know if you have a way!

And good luck everyone with your challenges :)

Yesha- Books Teacup and Reviews (booksteacupandreviews) Hello, I'm Yesha from India. I like YA, Fantasy-Fiction, Mythology, and Mystery books. I found this group when I was looking for the reading challenges groups. My goal this year is to read 100 books. I hope I can achieve that!!

message 826: by Metric (new)

Metric (metric91) | 25 comments Hi everyone!

My name is Sabrina and I'm from Vienna, Austria. Even though my native language is German I only read books in English (except books that are originally written in German or other languages), so yeah, that's why I've joined goodreads! I only really started using my account this year, since I just got out of a veeery long reading slump, but now I'm super motivated and have found my love for reading again. :) My goal is to read 20 books in 2017, but I'd be super happy if I could manage more than that.

message 828: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi everyone!
I'm Sarah, from Australia. I've been a lax member on GR for about a year, but have only just started exploring exactly what this site has to offer.
Fantasy is by far my favourite genre of book, although I also like horror, sci fi, and just about anything else that catches my eye.

This year my reading goal is 20 books. Ideally I'd love to read far more than that, but as a full time uni student my time can be pretty short. Looking forward to getting to know you all.

message 829: by mango (new)

mango (love2read9) Hi! My name is Maggie and I'm from the US. I love to read YA, nonfiction, science fiction, fantasy, and manga. I am also a huge fun if watching anime, but I've been having trouble on finding ones that I like. If you have any requests pls tell me. I'm also not the craziest fan of romance books.

My reading goal for 2017 is 110 books. Last year, I read 75 books. I'm hoping to read more diversely this year and read more books. I also have an addiction to adding books to my TBR, so I'm still getting there. Happy reading!

message 830: by Natalie (new)

Natalie (esaria) | 267 comments Hi there! My name is Natalie and I'm from New Zealand.

I've always loved reading and my favourite books tend to be YA, fantasy or medieval-based (or a combination there-of). I also love stories which involve dimensional or time travel - just tossing one person into a new world or time is fascinating ;D I also really adore stories based on the King Arthur legends and have loved them since I was a child.

My goal this year is to read 24 books - and I'm currently 3 behind schedule (whoops!). In the past I was able to read upwards of 200 books yearly (and sometimes upwards of 100 monthly), but now that I'm an adult and working full-time I always seem to have too many obligations and can't keep up with my reading like I used to... and being really fussy with books can sometimes lead to me ignoring them for ages in favour of reading fanfiction (because I love Harry Potter :| and there's so many interesting takes on it :).

ANYWAYS, I'm open to suggestions and discussions and always trying to find the latest book that I can get stuck into and enjoy ;D

I found this group by randomly browsing the groups on Goodreads and thought it sounded like a great idea to join as I've been really bad with keeping up my reading lately.

message 831: by Viki (new)

Viki Barclay | 1 comments Hi everyone! My name is Victoria I'm from Scotland but live in NYC! Currently making my way through a list of all female Booker, Pulitzer, and Nobel Prize winners. It's a long list! I usually like to read Sci-Fi; Walter Tevis is one of my all time favorite authors, while you might not group him under "Sci-Fi Author", I think Mockingbird is a masterpiece.

My goal for this year was to read 70 books, but considering I am currently 7 books behind that may have been a bit too ambitious... I am currently struggling with The Trick is to Keep Breathing by Janice Galloway. It's dense but great!

I think I may need to start reading more plays during the day. Don't lie! They totally count!

message 832: by Brad (new)

Brad (bandras) | 2 comments Hellol everyone! My name is Brad. I'm from a small town in south Louisiana not far outside of New Orleans. I try to keep my reading somewhat varied and am always looking for new and interesting books. Lately I've been reading biographies and throwing some classics in the mix, but I'll pick up anything that sounds interesting.

Towards the end of last year I set a goal to read all of Kurt Vonnegut's novels before 2017, but fell short by one. I love Vonnegut, but after 13 straight works by him in a very short amount of time, I needed a little break. This year my goal is to read 40 books. So far I have read 6. As an industrial radiographer I work long hours and am rarely in the same place for more than a month. It'll be a close finish but with dedication to daily reading goals, some short works thrown in here and there, and likely some double time towards the end, I think I can pull this one off.

message 837: by Julie (new)

Julie Hi, I'm Julie from Georgia (USA). My goal is 37 this year. I read mostly mysteries, thrillers, espionage and political thrillers. Not into sci-fi or fantasy. Don't like period novels or anything British. Sorry!

message 838: by Alyssa (last edited Mar 07, 2017 02:21PM) (new)

Alyssa | 45 comments Hello! My name is Alyssa. I am from the United States. I just happened to come upon this group and decided to join. I haven't been reading as much books as I would like to so I am going to try and read more this year (even though it is already March). Therefore my goal is around 20 books. Out of all the genres I REALLY like realistic fiction so one of my goals this year is to expand and read more genres than just realistic fiction.

I am excited to be part of this group and would love to hear what you guys would suggest to read!

message 839: by Adria (new)

Adria (adria_h) | 63 comments Hi everyone! My name is Adria and I'm from Canada. I've had a GR account for a while now, but haven't ever been active in the Community. I've recently just gotten back into reading after what seems like a very long hiatus of a year. I stumbled upon this group and I thought that it would be a great way to keep on track with my goal of 30 books read by the end of the year.

Looking forward to getting to those books I've picked up along the way and never gotten around to reading and getting suggestions for some new great books!

message 840: by Alok (new)

Alok Kumar | 2 comments Hi all! My name is Alok Kumar. I am from New Delhi, India.

I believe in reading whatever I can lay my hands on.

I avoid reading self-help books ( The Monk who sold his Ferrari kind). Except these, everything else if good for me.

message 841: by Kübra (new)

I read nearly hundred books last year. However, I could not start my challenge this year so i thought this group will keep me motivated so that I can start my challenge.

message 843: by Maggie (last edited Mar 08, 2017 11:29PM) (new)

Maggie | 1 comments Hi everyone! My name is Maggie, and like everyone else, seemed to just stumble upon the group. I've been a goodreads member for years, but have never actively interacted with anyone other than my own IRL friends.

I'm Canadian by birth but currently working in Tianjin, China, at an international school. I teach grade 1!

As for my personal tastes, I love general fiction, YA, memoirs of fascinating people...I'll read pretty much anything, other than sappy romance and I don't love self-help books.

My goal is to read 35 books this year, but I'm considering upping it to 35, since I'm off to a good start so far and have read 8. Looking forward to hearing about what everyone else is reading!

message 844: by Jo (new)

Jo Baalham-Curry (jobc) | 1 comments Hello I am Jo and i am from Northern Ireland. I live with my husband a non reader who can't understand how i can read a book everyday.
I like to read auto biographies and also fiction books. Sometimes i like true stories. I read a book rather than download onto kindle. Nothing better than a good book and holding it.

I found goodreads while putting into a google search how to keep track of books i've read as i was forgetting which books i have read and haven't. So only started using it at the start of the year 2017. I find it fantastic and came across your group this evening.

I set myself the challenge of 15 books in 2017. I hope to be able to do more than this when work permits me to read during the day or at night keep myself awake.

Looking forward to interacting with you all.

My favourite work of all time is 'The Yellow Wallpaper' by Charlotte Perkins Gilman. I have only recently set myself the challenge of reading 50 books this year so I have a bit of time to catch up on! I'm currently reading 'Emma' and really enjoying it.
