Joan Barnett | 1007 comments My name is Joan and I live in Church Road, VA. It's south of Richmond, Virginia.

I read almost anything. I like to read the young adult stuff with my daughter. I like literary fiction, thrillers, classics, biographies, non-fiction, etc

I stumbled on this group by looking at a few other people's pages and groups.

My reading goal is at least 52 books this year. I usually read 40-45 so I'm pushing myself a little this year.

message 602: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Mananghaya | 2 comments Hi I'm Ashley from the Philippines. I read a lot of Thriller, suspense and romance genres but I'm also open in reading books with different genres. I found the group through my friend who recommended me to join. My reading goal for this year is to read at least 150 books before the year ends.

message 603: by Brian (new)

Brian Gay My name is Brian, I live in North Carolina, and this is my third year to do a reading challenge. Last year I focused more on the amount of books I read, but this year I lowered my limit so I could focus on reading longer books, such as War and Peace and Ulysses. Hopefully things will go well and I will have to adjust the amount of works to a higher number, but for now I just want to enjoy reading. I am looking forward to comparing notes on how other readers approach their reading challenges. Salute!

Sarah - Blessed Mom of Two (sarah1987) Hello my name is Sarah and I am new to Goodreads. It has been a LONG time since I have read a book and I joined in hopes of picking up a new book and finishing it. Let's see, what is there to tell you about myself?

I am 30 years young and I live in Columbus, Ohio. I am happily married and we have a fur kid named Pepper. She is a Chiweenie... for those of you who may not know it is a cross between a Chihuahua and a Dachshund. I am a BIG animal lover! I am also very close with my family.

I am looking for friends to share this reading journey on... I find that challenges are helpful because they make me pick up a book I want to read and stick with that book... that way I can finally start reading again - I miss it SO much.

Feel free to add me as your friend :)

Once again, welcome all!

Lanee | 26 comments Hello everyone! I'm Lanee from the US and I will read just about anything. I'm 26 and love to cook, eat and read as much as possible. Feel free to send me a friend request. I love to go hunt through others' shelves for book suggestions! Happy reading :)

message 607: by mik (new)

mik (kimenna) Hi everyone! I'm Annemik, from the Netherlands (I speak Dutch, English and German, though not as fluently as I would like). I'm mostly into fantasy and sci-fi books and love young adult fiction. Contemporary is a bit out of my comfort zone, but I like to read one every once in a while, and romance really isn't my thing. I probably won't read a book where the main thing is romance. Oh, and I love to write, I'm currently working on a story that's almost finished and will be sent to a publisher shortly! So excited!

Last year I completed my challenge of 50 books so I thought I would try to beat that this year: hopefully I'll read 60 books this year! Looking forward to reading and hopefully completing my challenge together with you all :)

I just finished reading number 2 for this year - so 2/50. The Sleeping Beauty Killer by Mary Higgins Clark. Great book.

message 611: by Lia (new)

Lia | 3 comments Hi I'm Lia and I'm from Sydney. I've been on Goodreads for a few years now but have mainly just used it as a good way to keep track of the books I've read and what to read next.

I mainly read fiction but occasionally will read authors like Bill Bryson. If I'm after a book I can get through fast I'll grab a crime/mystery novel.

This is the second year I'm attempting to read twenty books. Last year I JUST made it, I mean I finished the twentieth book on 31st December.

I found this group as I was exploring the site and thought it would be a great place to pick up some suggestions as to what to ready next.

Already at 42 this month?! That is impressive. How do you get so much reading done? Any tips?

message 613: by Erica (new)

Erica Olsen (erikarou) | 17 comments Hello fellow book lovers.

My names is Erica and I'm from the (very small) Kingdom of Denmark. Nice to meet you!

According to my profile I've been on Goodreads since 2014, but I actually joined in '12 with another account, I later forgot all about. I started discovering my love for books at that time and stumbled upon Goodreads one boring Maths class, while in my own little world.

I read almost anything. I love trying to read new genres and so on. I do have a soft spot for YA, mystery, fantasy and romantic comedies.

My 2017 reading goal is to read 70 books. I try to push myself to find the time to read a little more each year. Last year it was 60 books and the year before it was 20. I hope I'll be able to complete it this year as well.

Myself Omkar. And I am from India.
The reason as to why I joined this group is because I want to develop myself as a reader. I want to go beyond my personal limits.
I am hoping that you guys would help me in discovering and developing a new taste towards reading.
Glad to be here.

message 616: by Mondana (new)

Mondana Hello All! My name is Mondana and I am in nursing school. For the past three years I have been avoiding reading books outside of school in preparation for grad school and now that I am in grad school, I have even less time for school. Yet, I still watch television and I'd like to replace that time with reading so I can better myself. I would like to read 8 books this year. I can do that and I will! Thanks for all the support!

message 617: by Ilona (new)

Ilona | 4698 comments Welcome Brooke and Mondana! Good luck with your reading goals this year :)

message 618: by Jody (new)

Jody (mamabrown) | 10 comments Hi I'm Jody. Made my 30 books last year almost by the stroke of midnight!!! Decided to do 30 books again this year....fingers crossed I make it! Already finished one and on to the next. Have joined a book club so that should keep me on track! I'm in Wellington, FL and our rainy season is May thru October so I can read lots then and the heat has been absolutely intolerable....so indoors I go in the a/c so more time to read! My only drawback is my love for knitting! So I'm truly torn between the two! Wishing everyone luck on their expectations of reading. I see someone mentioned netflix! LOL....yes, and Amazon, HBO, Showtime too another struggle....to keep the eyes on the Kindle!!!

Natalie (nat00) | 10 comments Hello everyone,

My name is Natalie and I'm from the Chicago area but am currently going to school in California. I like a wide variety of books but my favorites are thrillers and suspense novels. I joined this group because last year, I did not meet my goal by a long shot whereas in 2015, I was so proud of my success and I was hoping that joining this group would increase my motivation. This year, my goal is to read 30 books and to possibly read books that I would normally not be inclined to read. I am currently reading a book that was gifted to me, Dorothy Must Die, and recently finished reading Ten Thousand Skies Above You.

message 623: by Mary (new)

Mary Shimp (meemeeshimp) | 10 comments My name is Mary and I live south of Indianapolis, Indiana. I recently became disabled due to Stage 4 cancer and so now find much more time to read, again. I am currently trying to read through the numerous books I have at home before buying more unless it's for book clubs and challenges. My goal for 2017 is 52 books, one for each week in the year. I read any and everything from Childrens (which I disguise as reading to my grandchildren) and Young Adult to biographies and non-fiction. Happy reading to all!

message 624: by Kelli (last edited Jan 24, 2017 05:02PM) (new)

Kelli (kellisti) | 2 comments Hi everyone! I'm Kelli from Fullerton, CA. I love to read all kinds of books; cooking, philosophy, biography, mystery, suspense, horror, and fantasy. I was looking for one group to join and this one seemed pretty active and I liked the reading list. My goal this year is 25 books but I'm going to try to surpass that if I have the time. I've loved to read since I first learned to do it and have been classified as a bookworm my whole life. I love that I can learn anything that I want to know more about and lose myself in another world for a while.

I've created a new "to read" list recently, and am challenging myself to read more of the classics. My teenage son read 1984 last year and declared it one of his favorite books of all time. He begged me to read it so that he could discuss it with me. I was pretty sure that I had read it in high school at one point but I could not remember a thing about it. I took the time to read it and comprehend it and I really enjoyed it. This got me to thinking that there are probably a lot of classics out there that I drudged through in high school and college and never really took the time to understand fully, hence the ambitious reading list.

Hi Kelli: I am also from CA (Chico). I had to smile when I read you wanted to start reading some of the classics. Just today I was looking at a list I have of 100 top classics and thought I need to read one of those! Glad someone else is thinking the same way!

message 626: by Daniel (new)

Daniel Hi I'm Danny from the New England in the US. I am really trying to up my reading back to what it once was. I like a lot of fantasy and read way too much YA. I'm trying to find adult books that I actually like because a lot of them are just annoying a boring? Like, shut up John Doe, I don't care that you hate your job, this does not make a good book. Anyway. I'm also trying to avoid books where romance is a main plot point (even if it's not the main plot point) because of how much freaking YA I read.

I'm hoping being in a group will encourage me!

I found this group while looking for a group which is hip and fun and has no particular pre-decided set of book types or goals to read for the year. That's how I stumbled upon 2017 Reading Challenge group, open and fun. Love it so far.

My goal for 2017 is just 36 books. I intend to re-read a few books that I love.

I wish you all luck with your goals and have lots of fun guys & girls. :) See you.

It's nice to meet you Lacy! 200 books a great goal! I can remember nights of studying on 3rd shift, reading novels overnight is a great idea! Funny that you mentioned Harry Potter. I'm kicking off a marathon tonight. More of a Gryffindor kinda gal! I wish you the best of luck in reaching your reading goal and I hope you get to experience some of other genres that pique your interest!

Happy reading!

Kiwi_^^ (kiwi_) | 3 comments Minasan, konichiwa!
My (user)name is Kiwi. I'm from Singapore but I like to speak Japanese. I stumbled upon this group as I was trying to find a group that can help me for my 2017 reading challenge as I'm not sure I can finish my challenge this year eventhough I completed my challenge last year. (2016: 50 books, 2017: 60 books) I love to read books about dragons, animals, fictions, magic and whatever topic that is related to fantasy! My favourite book so far is Dragon Racer written by Margaret Bateson-Hill. Her books are awesome and totelly my type. I REALLY can't wait for the third series, "The silver flame". My second favorite will be (almost all) the books written by E.D. Baker. I found out about her books when my mother introduced the book, "the fairytale matchmaker", and when I found the book, "the wide-awake princess". I can't wait for the next book, "the princess and the pearl". I probably don't need to write my third cause I think I wrote too much. ;p I love to type as I seems like a practise for me to finish my own written stories. I planned to upload one of my stories on Wattpad but I guess I'm just shy. I also tried uploading one on goodreads last year but I guess nobody reads the creative writing now so I deleted it...
Hope there's enough informations about me. (LOL.;D)
Sayonara!

Sarah Hello! I've been on this site for a few years now but just recently became more active to be able to keep track of all these books! I've been reading my whole life but picked back up again after high school (9 years ago, yikes..) I'm from Northern Ontario, Canada and I read mostly thrillers, mysteries, memoires, etc. I beat my reading goal last year so this year I'm hoping to read at least 36 books!
Happy reading everyone!

message 650: by Betheny (new)

Betheny (bookdimond22) Hello! My name is Betheny. I'm from Michigan but I'm in between sates due to the military. I love reading, but when I started the social work program it took a backseat to school and to crochet. And I've been getting back into reading trying to to read all the books I've purchases and never read!

I'm mostly interested in non fiction, fictions, and books about social justice issues. I'm also into classics, and books I can get lost in.

For 2017, my goal is to read 12 books. So, 1 book a month. Which seems manageable since I'm a quick reader, it's just finding the time.
