Krishna Bhavsar (kkbhavsar) | 3 comments Hi everyone, My name is Krishna and I'm from Pune, India. I am a Linguist by profession and work with computers to apply Linguistics. I like to read almost all genres except Romance. Particularly enjoy World History and Politics. My goal is to read a minimum of 15 books this year, but more the merrier. Usually my exploits in my many interest areas along with my job(s) don't leave me too much time to read but I try to get some in everyday. Last year I read about 17 books. Currently I'm reading The Prophet(2nd time after a gap of six months) by Kahlil Gibran. Find it quite inspirational.

PS - Oh and I don't keep my Goodreads profile updated.

message 553: by Mary (new)

Mary (mhyson) Hello! My name is Mary and I'm from Bethlehem PA. I have been a member on Goodreads for several years - just getting more involved with groups now :-)

I like to read almost everything! My favorite type of books are probably young adult/middle grade. I am a Middle School librarian so that might affect it hahaha I also love Children's literature - since i was an elementary librarian for 8 years :-)

My goodreads goal is 100 books - last year i read over 150 which is odd for me but i read a lot of graphic novels so that helped haha I am starting my masters degree in library science this year - so that will affect my reading i'm sure :-)

message 554: by Marisa (new)

Marisa Eikenberry (marisaeikenbrry) Hi everyone! I'm Marisa from Indiana. I like to read all kinds of books but here lately it's been a mix of fiction (admittedly, many young adult novels) and a plethora of non-fiction books about many different subjects. Usually I read books about cooking, business, personal finance, graphic novels, or random topics (i.e. dead bodies and their scientific contributions).

I found this group by checking for the most active groups. I've been trying to get more involved in the community and also by trying to review every (or almost every) book that I read this year. I get most of my books from the library so I figure it's the least I can do to give back to the author.

My goal this year is to read 110 books, which sounds like a lot but I managed 106 last year. I only raised the goal a little bit to make sure it wasn't a fluke. I'm already up to 12 books for the year so we'll see! :)

message 555: by Allee (new)

Allee | 2 comments Hello fellow readers! My name is Allee and I will read pretty much anything that catches my eye. I'd say my favorite genre is fiction romance or historical fiction. I found out about this group from a friend who recommended I set a reading goal. However, she knew I would need some motivation so she showed me this. My goal is 30 books but I will most likely raise it throughout the year. I'm excited to discuss books and discover new ones to read!

message 556: by Dawn (new)

Dawn Tutt Good Evening
A little bit about me:
- Where are you from?
Maine, New England, United States
- What kinds of books do you like to read?
I favor mysteries and fantasy stories
- How did you find our group?
I have giving myself a challenge through Goodreads for a few years but never realized till now there was a group to go with it.
- What's your reading goal?
75 books for the year, same as last year which I did not make but I have hopes for 2017.

message 558: by leenawho (new)

leenawho (musafra) | 1 comments Hello all! This is Leena from New Zealand. I've actually been a lurker in this group for a couple of years *blush* I haven't been reading much during that time, but I have a good feeling about things going forward! I still haven't quite figured out what my favourite genre is, and I'm planning to read around 17 books in 2017, or in the very least, to tick a few off my TBR list.

message 561: by Raffaela (last edited Jan 15, 2017 02:21PM) (new)

Raffaela Ramires | 1 comments Hello guys, my name's Raffaela and I'm from Brazil. I found this group 'cause I was searching for personal challenges. I believe that I'll read 1/2 books per month due to my senior year's conditions. I'm new on GoodReads, but I've always loved reading and have read during twelve years a plenty of great books such as classics, contemporary, fictional, romance, biographies, school recommendations and a lot more. My taste it's very ecletical so I'd be pleased to read anything that you members recommend.
I'm willing to receive recommendations and discuss various plot twists with you guys, although it's going to be a little bit of a rush following the group actively.
Thank you for having me in here, XX

message 562: by Rebekah (last edited Jan 15, 2017 04:57PM) (new)

Rebekah Gillian (bekahlouisex) Hi guys! I'm Rebekah, an eighteen year old student from England.
I mostly read YA or NA contemporary novels, although I'm making it my mission to expand my comfort zone throughout 2017, so expect those preferences to change as the year progresses. As I'm eighteen, the YA and NA preference probably won't change, but I'm hoping my love for more out-there genres does. I plan on reading Harry Potter at some point, so hopefully that'll be a good introduction into the fantasy genre!
I found this group through looking in the group tag, I think, or through another group that I've liked. I'm not actually sure, really; but I knew when I saw it that this was something I wanted to be a part of.
My 2017 reading goal is to read a total of 20 books throughout the year. Considering my goal last year was 10 books and I happily exceeded that, I hope that this goal is rational and achievable for me!

message 563: by Kelly B (new)

Kelly B (kellybey) Hi, I'm Kelly:-). I'm married, with 3 teens. I work part-time at our small-town library.

My favorite genre of books is horror, but I also love historical fiction.

I found this group when I searched for "challenges" in the group section.

My goal this year is 125 books. I doubt I'll make it, especially since I'm off to such a slow start this year.

message 565: by Taylor (new)

Taylor | 1 comments Hello all, I'm Taylor and I'm originally from Michigan in the US. I am currently living and teaching in Saudi Arabia at an international school. I teach 3rd grade and LOVE it! I found out about the 2017 challenge through a colleague who is our middle school librarian.

My goal for 2017 is 20 adult books, because I tend to read Children's lit to keep up with my students. I am already a book in and started my second, so I guess I'm off to a good start. I am excited to hear about some of your favs:)
Taylor

message 566: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 26 comments Hello Taylor, welcome! Would you please send a some degrees to Northern Germany ;)) - it's cold outside. But that's good for reading ...

message 567: by Vignesh (new)

Vignesh Ramakrishnan | 1 comments Hi this is Vignesh, from India. My preferred genres are whodunnits, sci-fi and fantasy. I randomly stumbled upon this group when I was browsing the community section. My goal is to read 40 books this year :D

message 568: by Maddy (new)

Maddy | 24 comments So. Um. Hi! My name is Maddy. I am from a small European country Latvia (yeah, I know you haven't heard of it :D )
I try to variate my book choices. However, I prefer romance (contemporary, paranormal, historical). Sometimes YA, psychology, crime, adventure, detective, poetry if I feel like it. Don't judge, but I googled 'reading challenges bingo 2017' because I like bingo challenges, obviously, and well... here I am. My goodreads reading challenge goal is as of late 200 books/per year. As for why I read? Because I want to, I need to and I chose to. ;)

message 569: by Jess (new)

Jess | 12 comments Hi I'm Riley, from New York. I used to read a lot when I was younger, but somehow fell out of the habit. I read way too many young adult books and am on the search for a good adult book for once!
My goal for this year is 100 books. It's a bit much to start out with since I haven't read in so long, but I need to catch up on everything I've missed. This year, I would really like to try and read different genres than usual.

message 570: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 26 comments Hello and welcome! 200 books, 100 books - I feel ashamed with my goal for 75 books ;)) By the way ... Latvia at the Baltic Sea. So we are "neighbors", Maddy! 'cause I have to work in Germany for some years.

message 571: by Shirley (last edited Jan 17, 2017 12:25PM) (new)

Shirley (poolshir) | 10 comments Hi all! Only joined a few days ago and joined the group yesterday. I'm Shirley, born in Malaysia, grew up in the Netherlands, moved to a few other countries in the meanwhile and currently living in Malta (St Julians or San Giljan in Maltese)! I'm of Chinese origin though to make it even more complicated :)

I like to read all kinds of books varying from chick lit to historical to autobiographies to business related book and so on! Lately I have been a bit lazy and using Netflix a lot when I'm not working and trying to get back into the groove of reading. I am going to try to read at least 36 books (in either Dutch or English) this year!

message 575: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 2 comments Hello fellow book lovers. My name is Jennifer and I'm from Carmel, Indiana, suburb of Indianapolis. I have been using Good Reads as a way to track books and was excited to see the opportunity of having a challenge as well as see recommendations and discussions of other literature. I will read just about anything, and my goal this year is to read at least one piece of fiction and one piece of non-fiction each month. Though I have a kindle, I still love the feel and smell of books, and can get lost in a bookstore (the older the better) for hours.

message 578: by Megan (new)

Megan (lostbetween_the_pages) Hi there! I'm Megan, from Chicago. I've been a member of Goodreads since 2012. I've always had a love for books and reading, but I've been embracing it more in my 20s. It's no longer just something I do to pass the time, it's part of who I am. I was a member of a book club a few years ago, but things didn't work out so I've stuck to Goodreads. I think this is a great community of people, and I enjoying reviewing and sharing my ideas on the books that I have read as well as reading the thoughts and reviews of others. The main genre I feel drawn to is crime thrillers/suspense. Somehow, I always seem to grab more of those than anything else. Although, I do love a good classic novel, and can get sucked into reading a memoir or two. ;) Bottom line, although I have a few favorite genres, I am always willing to read new things and give new authors a chance.

My goal in 2016 was to read 30 books, and I just barely squeaked in the 30th book on the 30th of December. I decided to challenge myself this year by trying to choose books to read that I already own instead of buying new ones (We'll see how long that lasts! lol) and bumped up the number of books to read to 35. I just finished my first book of the new year, Running With Scissors by Augusten Burroughs, and am about to start The Casual Vacancy by J.K. Rowling.

Anyway, I'm excited to be a part of this group, and look forward to chatting with you all soon. :)

message 579: by Laura (new)

Laura Agnella (lagnella) Hi there!

I'm Laura from PA. I've been a member of Goodreads for some time now and am also the co-host of the #sixtybooks reading challenge on Twitter. I run my own book blog and obviously love to read and share my love of books. My goal every year is 60 books. Working full time and being a mom of two makes it hard but I try to read every day, even if it is only for a few minutes. I also listen to audiobooks on the way to and from work.

With regard to genre, I love steampunk, paranormal, fantasy, YA, mystery/action/romance, and some light fun romances on occasion. I'm a huge fan of Peter Pan retellings also. Basically, as long as a book keeps me engaged, I'll enjoy it!

message 580: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Hi I'm Jen and I'm from Michigan! I'm 28, married and the mom to two little boys. I love reading many different genres from memoirs to young adult fiction to Christian and even some finance! I found this group while searching out a group to help keep me motivated to surpass my goal this year for the first time. I have a never ending to read list it seems and I would like to make more of a dent this year!

My goal is to read 24 books (2 a month) but I wouldn't mind passing that!

Jessica (jessicastevensfiction) | 2 comments Hello! My name is Jessica and I am new to goodreads! I recently published my first romance novel, Secondhand Romance, and am working on the second currently. I even stumbled across a review of my novel on this very site! I am currently reading two books: one for leisure and one for spiritual growth and guidance.

My reading goal this year is 15-20 books! I look forward to contributing to the group as we all read and enjoy many, many more books!

Happy reading. Happy writing. Happy creating.

message 586: by lacy (new)

lacy white (ravensandlace) I'm Lacy and I'm from small town Iowa. I love all things Harry Potter and I often compare everything to this series. (Ravenclaw for life!) I guess I read all sorts of different books. This past year I have been branching out to fantasy, mysteries and sci fi, which is a huge step for me. I normally read YA, biographies, historical fiction and adult (primarily Danielle Steel).

I found this group because one of my friends posted in it. I looked at the group and thought that this could be a fun group to join, so that's exactly what I did.

As for my reading goal, go big or go home. I am shooting for 200 books this year. I work overnights at my job and it leaves a lot of free time. So that is why I chose such a high goal from last year.

message 587: by [deleted user] (new)

message 597: by Rica (new)

Rica | 1 comments Hello all,

My name is Rica. I am from Kigali, a city in Rwanda; a small and beautiful country at the heart of Africa. One of my 2017 goals was to join an online reading community and read 24 books this year. I read one book a month last year and I want to push myself this year.
I like self help books, spirituality and romance. I am open to try out new genres too.
I look forward to learning from all of you in this group and I am happy I am meeting one of my set goals by joining this group!
I just finished reading "Straight from the Gut" today. An interesting though very long book so I am pretty excited so far. The year has started on a positive note.

Mieke (miekesleeshoek) Hey! My name is Mieke. I'm from Belgium, so a long, long way from most of you guys here.
I'm a book blogger, so reading is my most favourite thing to do. I also love writing and planning and music.
I'm absolute rubbish with introductions, so I'll keep it at this for the moment, but if you guys have questions, please do ask!

message 600: by Chintan (new)

Chintan Lalwani (chinty88) | 1 comments Howdy! This is Chintan Lalwani from Vadodara, India. I have been surfing through the comments and will try to adapt the same structure for introducing myself.

I love anything by Oscar Wilde. There are books that make me feel glad to be alive than there are books that make me sad to be a part of human race. But I cherish the fact how books have been my friend during good times and an unflailing moral support in dark times.

I'll start this year with the aim of completing 25 books and with the singular hope of understanding the feelings of the writer's work. Sometimes I feel that I rush through the books just to complete the quota for my target.

Wishing that we all read and learn stuff to improve our life and be a better human being ✌
