I really loved last year's "Every Year" challenge, despite not finishing it. While I'm participating in ..."
You can always come up with a challenge for the group we do take ideas from members =)

I am Rishita, from India.
The books I love are the ones which have the audacity to grab my brain and shake the reality out of it. Well, YA fantasies, literary fictions and rich classics does that work for me.
This group was the first recommendation on goodreads which I found intriguing. I am an aspiring author and I know that to be a good one, I need to be an avid reader first. For the last few years I was diagnosed with a severe disease and am in the verge of recovering. A serious case of book slump. So, I hope this group cures me and motivates me to read more. My reading goal is 25 books for 2017. I am sure to get spurred on by such enthusiastic readers in this group. Thank you for having me here.

I just barely finished last years challenge of thirty books by adding some comics that I read. This year I'm aiming to read at least thirty books, without the comic cheat. One challenge that I'm going to try to achieve will be the Hebban.nl 'around the world challenge'. However if this gets in the way of my reading fun I'll be doing mini-challenges that are less demanding. ;-)

I like reading all kinds of books. Sometimes informative, sometimes chick lit, horror, classics etc. It really depends on my mood.
My goal for this year is 48 books and I already finished 2 (which are Cosmos by Carl Sagan and The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins).
Hope to see everyone have a great year and reach their goals.

My name is Carly, I'm 30, and a home-maker. I'm from the North East of the UK.
I will sit and read anything, but really enjoy Science Fiction, Horror, Historical Fiction, Fantasy, and (whatever the word is for a lot of books in a series). I have a few Authors that I can not get enough of... to the point of reading the same books over and over again! Jean M. Auel's "Earth's Children" series, is that for me. I am now on my 8th (or 9th?) read through- does this count as separate reads per-chance? lol.
As for book count for the year, I wouldn't know! Some weeks are more exhausting than others. So I think I'll go for 24 ( 2 a month) and for every extra book I read after that, I'll have a cupcake ^_^ So 1 down (Clan of the Cave Bear" by Jean M. Auel) 23 to go :D
Oh and if anyone could suggest anything different for me to read, I'd be more than appreciative! I've enjoyed "The Wheel of Time" Robert Jordan, Gary Jennings works, George R. R. Martin, William Horwood's "Duncton Wood"s books. Thanks!
Looking forward to an awesome book-filled year.

Hi, Carly, welcome to the group. Since you like sci-fi, fantasy, and lots of books in a series, I highly recommend Terry Pratchett's Discworld series, if you haven't already read it.

I try to read a classic every year. I haven't picked one yet, but I have Les Miserables waiting patiently on the bookshelf.

Hi Carly,
Welcome! This is my first group. I would like to recommend a great book that was actually selected in the the science fiction category as a finalist in the 2016 Goodreads Award. Dark Matter by Blake Crouch. I don't want to give anything away but it's a fantastic book.

I typically gravitate towards fantasy, science fiction, and a strange array of nonfiction topics. I'd like to expand my genre choices a little this year, but I'm both choosy and a creature of habit, so... yeah.
I discovered this group by complete random chance.

I like to read young adult books about vampires, werewolves, and a little sci-fi. I also like Nora Roberts books. I will pretty much read anything but horror and true crimes those are a no go for me. My reading goal for me this year is small only cause I am trying to get back into reading again after a couple years of not reading so the goal is 25.

I mostly read science fiction, fantasy, and comics but I love good stories regardless of genre. My reading goal for this year is 50 books, which sounds like a lot but I plan to include manga and graphic novels in my total :p

I live in Loveland, Colorado.
I love reading just about anything, I suppose fantasy and science fiction are at the top of my favorites followed closely by adventure and romance. I like getting surprised by books too. Sometimes I guess I don't know what I want or will like.
I found this group by just browsing across different blogs and sites, then I came across a section that showed the 2016 Reading Challenge. I was curious and I googled. So here I am. :)
My reading goal is 77 books. Maybe I'll even exceed it. I love anything with 7 in it. 100 seems a bit out of my reach right now, but who knows. Maybe next year.
Now I need to add to my list!

My name is Lauren, I'm from Northern Ireland but living in England. I'm currently doing the Popsugar reading challenge, so that is 52 books in 52 weeks, but each book has to follow a guideline or theme... I've recently come out of a major reading slump (years long!) so it's great to be back to it these past few months.
I've just finished Book 2 of the year - 1 being Bitten by Kelley Armstrong and 2 being The Diabolic by S J Kincaid. It's safe to say that my go-to genres would be the like of fantasy/sci-fi but I'm definitely going to challenge myself this year to divert from that and sample what I'm missing out on.

I am a blogger, a bit of a writer, a social worker and an unconventional woman with many layers! LOL I love music, cooking, drawing and now - reading! So far, I enjoy fantasy, horror, graphic novels and SOME romance and Sci-Fi.
I'm aiming for a simple 12 books this year, as I'm such a noob. A book per month, and then...well, we'll see, I guess.
I'm eager to make friends, so please, don't hesitate to reach out.

My name's Mukoya. From Nairobi, Kenya. I enjoy reading a wide variety of books except memoirs. I cannot pinpoint a reason why but I find them taxing on my being :-D haha. Found out about the group from BookRiot. Looking forward to the new year.

My name is Nash. I am from Taipei, Taiwan. I used to hate reading. I only learn things from sources such as
(1) Youtube: Actually it's quite amazing. There are many educational channels like TED and The School of life.
(2) Movies: A lot of movies are motivating and thought-provoking, such as Fight Club, Her, Whiplash.
(3) Quora
(4) Online articles & news
Although I have learned quite a few things from those resources, I don't feel like I am really improving. I think the problem is that I DON'T READ BOOKS! Therefore, I decide to read 30 great books this year, and let's see what will happen!
I'm gonna start with the reading list by fightmediocrity

My interest particularly doesn't lie in any single genre , as I said I used to be a voracious reader and so I'd probably just read anything that I can lay my hands on.That being said Fiction is always the first choice , autobiographies and historical stuff comes second.
Joined Goodreads a while back but just started using it recently and will probably take time to update it.
I also like Classics, Heidi and The Coral Island are close to my heart.

My name is Marie and this is my first Goodread group. I love to read spy stories, thrillers, war stories and I'm quite partial to a good love story. 48 books in 2017 is my goal and I'm gonna enjoy it. :)

I'm from Germany, an avid reader and bookseller by profession.
I like to read all kinds of genres (in fiction as well as non-fiction), with a huge percentage of fantasy, classics, horror and literary studies. I do not see the point in e-books, as I need the physical feel and smell of books. I have come to terms with audio books, though, as I find "somebody" reading to me soothing.
I have a love for visually aesthetic books and am a fan of German Buechergilde and British Folio Society.
My challenge for this year is comparatively low: 20 books in 2017.
Otherwise I have given myself the new prescript of not starting to read too many new books at a time without finishing others first - and of staying true to my blog for more than three weeks in a row.
Regards,
Auntie Terror

I usually have to books going at the same time. One that can teach me something new about my mind, body, or my place in the world. It keeps me on a track of never-ending improvement. The second is usually a fiction title, that I can come home to at night and get lost in.
I look forward to challenging myself to read more this year, and to hopefully broaden my horizons in all areas.

I'm from Macedonia, 18 years old, and I've had a Goodreads account for quite some time, but I've never really given any thought to using it. Felt a bit lonely, as I have no friends who read and no one to discuss literature with. I've never been in a book club or anything of the sort since most book clubs with people my age go for the usual teenage drama vampire romance which I'm not a fan of. I mostly go for fantasy and horror, with a good bit of history sprinkled in. My favorite authors are George R. R. Martin and Mark Lawrence, and perhaps Lovecraft. According to my e-book reading app, I've read over 30 books in 2016, though it felt like much less. I don't really have a goal for this year, but seeing as this is my senior year, and in September I start university, I won't have nearly as much time. I hope I'm wrong.

I'm trying to expand and diversify my reading, but YA is kind of my fall back genre. I like scifi and fantasy and I'm always on the lookout for genre books that have lgbt+ protagonists.
My reading goal for 2017 is going to be 45 books/novellas/plays. I managed to squeak to my goal of 40 last year after taking a three month reading break in the fall (sucked into videogames) and I think I can push myself a little farther than that this year.
I'm also going to do the Popsugar Reading Challenge.

I'm hoping to get back into reading this year so I signed myself up for the challenge. I'm at book 1 of 12 now. I don't have a favourite genre, I can read any genres :)

My reading goal for 2017 is 200. Fingers crossed!!
