Introduce Yourself to the Group - 2017!

Name's Chema and I come from maybe-too-sunny-Spain (Malaga, right at the south, more precisely)! I hope being part of this group will help me keep the pace on my 2017 Reading Challenge (which is no less than 18 this year; buuuuut wouldn't complain to get a bit further).
I love many different genres, including (yet not limited to) Classics, Fiction, Nonfiction, Suspense & Thriller, Crime, Romance, YA, Chick-lit, Historical fiction... though I have "majored"in Fantasy, Contemporary and Sci-Fi :) You're welcome to have a look through my profile in case you think we could share similar interests, of course!
As I said, I aim to read minimum 18 books before the year is over. However, as from last October up to barely 4 days ago I read 12, I probably will try to achieve and increase that goal. The reason I joined this group is, honestly, because it was one of the first ones I saw and the one who struck me as the taylor-fitted for me :)
That's all, folks! It's nice to meet you all.
Happy New Year!

I am aiming very high and may eventually cheat by placing books I read with my kids... They are books and I read them... The other problem is I often forget to come here and post what I am reading.
I like to read everything from biographies to science fiction, thrillers, romance... My criteria has to do with how long it takes me to be completely immersed in the story

Hi, Autumn! I happen to be a major fan of Classics and Fantasy myself, and girl, I have read these very same books you're mentioning! If you liked Wuthering Heights (my fave from all times), I strongly recommend you «Mansfield Park», by the one and only Jane Austen, and «Flush» by Virginia Woolf.
Concerning the Fantasy genre, I recommend you The Inheritance Cycle, by Christopher Paolini. This 4 book saga follows the life and experiences of Eragon (which, if by any chance you've watched o heard about the movie, it's pure rubbish; as usually the books are far better!), a dragon-rider teen who has to save the world (#plottwist).
I'll be happy to know your opinions about my recommendations and, luckily, you'll have something new to read!
Hope you enjoy them.
Yours sincerely,
Chema Élysées.

I'm a Polish-Canadian living close to Toronto. I moved to Canada couple years ago and only now have a time to come back to reading more seriously.
I read any kind of books as long as the author is an interesting person and puts a reasonable amount of effort in creating a piece. However I'm mostly interested in philosophical "The Alchemist" - like stories, inspiring sci-fi or fantasy, and whatever my girlfriend decides is important for me to read (Jane Austin). I'm a goodreads rookie and this group looks like a great starting point (thanks for doing this, guys).
What I hope to find on the portal is slightly more elaborate and lengthy discussions on books than I can currently have with my computer geeky co-workers. I also seek motivation to stay at certain cultural level in the era of political desolation and cute cat videos.
To start off I'm setting hereof my yearly challenge to read Malazan Book of The Fallen series.
Everyone thanks for being here. I hope we'll have a great year!

My name is Adriana and I live in Canada. I became a member of goodreads in December and this is my first group I have joined. I came across this group randomly in a search for groups to join. I am excited to be part of a group and I am open to any book suggestions.
My reading goal for this year is 40 books! I enjoy reading contemporary and mystery books.
Hi! I'm Emily and I'm from the Eastern United States. I enjoy classics and literary fiction along with adventure and horror. I found this group as I was perusing goodreads and I was looking for something to keep me accountable for my reading goals. For my goal, I think I said 12 but I set that as a goal so I don't get overwhelmed. I'm still a student so I'm very busy and I'm reading a lot for school (The Fountainhead this go around and we just finished the Color Purple). I'm really excited to start reading and I hope that I read a lot more than my goal this year!

I discovered audio books as something I really love in the last two weeks and just love to let myself be carried away by a good speaker. My favourite genres are fantasy, urban fantasy, steampunk, crime fiction, historic fiction, young adult fiction and any good mix of said genres. And though English is not my native language (that would be German), I very rarely read non-english books.
My goal for this year is, like last year, a book a week, so 52.
Vanessa wrote: "Hola, Mi nombre es Vanessa, hace mas de dos o tres años estoy en goodreads, pero hasta ahora descubro lo de los grupos, asi que a ver como me va....."
115 libros! Eso es impresionante.
115 libros! Eso es impresionante.

My name is Swati. I live in New Delhi, Delhi, India. I love to read Science & Technology, History, Geography, English & Anthology related books of higher level.
Languages I know are Hindi, English, Sanskrit. I also love to read books with sanskrit chants, esp. the mantras(hymns).

I found this group since one of my Goodreads friends joined in. My challenge this year is to read 20 books. It does not seem much but I just started with the first book: War and Peace... A good and motivating challenge.

Some of you send a request to introduce myself. I'm Suzanne (English spoken, I'm not French). I live in Germany now, but I like to go back someday to Georgia. My profession is veterinary medicine and I'm also a construction engineer. So I worked as a Head of Depoartment of Natural Environment. I like to read 75 books a year ( I try to). Genres: Politics, History, Espionage with historical background, Southern gothic, about animals. And I like books with goddesses. In Germany it is not easy to get good English written books, but I use the internet to get them. So any recommends depend on getting them books here in this country. Love to read from you!

My name is Sandra but you can call me Ginger or San :)
I'm 23 years old and I am from Poland.
My favourites genres are: young adult, fantasy, mystery, romance, classics and contemporary but I can read almost every genres ;-)
My goal for this year is 52 books - one book in one week. At first I was planing to read 100 but this year I will have many others things to do so I don't want to feel under pressure that I won't complete my challenge. So 52 it is but I hope I will read more :-)
I hope to meet new people this year with similar interests ;-)
Good luck everyone! :D

I'm turning 18 in a week and my goal this year is to read 100 books before December 31st. I also want to ease off YA novels and start to read heavier and bigger books.

Genre-wise, I am pretty eclectic. I enjoy thrillers, crime, sci fi, fantasy, political, pop science, romance, some biographies - all kinds of books.
I have also been listening to some audio books which I am enjoying, as I can knit at the same time.
I have set my goal at 75 books - just over 1 a week which I think is realistically acheivable for me.

The Philippines
- What kinds of books do you like to read?
Mystery/Thrillers, Psychological, Fantasy
- How did you find our group?
A friend posted on Facebook about the challenge.
- What's your reading goal?
To be able to read a whole lot more books than before..!

My names Steve From Calgary. I've only rediscovered my love for reading. I gave myself a goal last year of 12 books at book a month and this year I've decided to double it to 24 and hopefully keep on climbing. I typically read a lot of Plays and Other Fine Art material, but also enjoy biographies, True Crime and Thriller fiction. Looking forward to our discussions and challenges. Also I'm always up for suggestions or a chance to discuss and exchange reading suggestions.
Hi,
I am Srishath. At the beginning of 2016, I had decided to inculcate the habit of reading books for two reasons:
*I felt I had lost connect with books after my bachelor's program.
*I was not learning anything substantial or interesting or thought provoking.
So, I had signed up the reading challenge to read 30 books in 2016. I was on track for the first-half of the year, but once I began my master's degree, I wasn't able to keep up. I ended up reading only 16 books. Though it was below my target, I did feel that I had gained substantial knowledge, changes in my personality and outlook.
I wanted to carry this wonderful habit to this year as well. So, I have decided to read about 10 non-fiction books this year - for some reason, fictions don't keep me engaged. I think it is a very realistic target.
I believe that this group would provide me constant motivation and encouragement to stay on track, and achieve, if not supersede, my target.

- What kinds of books do you like to read? I love all sorts of books, I just read the tid bits to see if I think I would enjoy it. I review books, have for going on 11 years.
- How did you find our group? Flipping through groups
- What's your reading goal? My goal this year is LOW for me, but see last year I read 38 the lowest I have read in a LONG time due to illness. I am pushing myself to get back up to my 100 goal by making it a 50 Book goal this year.
I'd like to add I am a SAHM one DD will be 11 in Feb. the other DD turned 8 in Sep. . I have been married 13 years, 14 will be this May 24th. My health has not been good my whole life, but last year really kicked me in the gut per say , so trying to get back on the wagon to try to get a little healthier.
Ask me anything you would like to know about me :)

I'm Brigitta from Hungary.
I intendedly searched for a group with reading challenges (and ideas/recommendations what to read) and I found this one. In the past years I focused on work too much and neglected reading - this is the main reason I'm here: I want to change this.
My goal is reading 25 new books this year.
I like all kind of books but fantasy stories are my favorites.
Happy reading :)

My goal in 2017 is to read 24 books. I really want to read more books since last year I didn't read much. I only read 7 books which most of those I read for school. So this year I want to read more and I also want to read more English books because I want to improve my reading in English. So I hope I will achieve my reading goal for this year. :')

Your English is pretty good. I had no trouble understanding what you were writing. As a person who only speaks and writes one language, I am always impressed by people who can speak and ..."
Thank you! Nice to hear that. :)
In Finland we want to be "international", so everybody have to learn at least three languages (always Finnish and Swedish and then English or other language). It kinda brings pressures sometimes.

This is my first time joining a group here on Goodreads. Sorry if I get something wrong. For 2017 my goal is 100. Just to see if I can. I know read a lot, but I used to read more. These past few years I mostly re-read much loved one. This year, I want to keep to new things and see if I can do it!

My name is Ravyn, and I've decided I need more bibliophile friends!
I enjoy non-fiction, history, thriller and crime fiction. I read anything and everything.
Feel free to add me should you wish, I'd love to hear from you!
All the best,
R

My original goal for 2017 was 12 books, one a month, but I'll most likely up that pretty significantly. I'm really looking forward to digging into the challenges and picking a few to work on throughout the year.
Good luck to everyone on their own personal goals!

I've been using goodreads for a few years but I have only just stumbled upon this group & what really drew me in was the "genre bingo - reading challenge"!!!
I think one of my biggest goals in terms of reading is trying to move out of comfort zone of sci-fi / fantasy & read other genres!! So I am excited to get involved :)

I read a variety of books but tend to shy away from thrillers/horror novels. I don't like to feel scared or tense while reading. I tend to read quite a bit of Young Adult novels but mix it up with some historical fiction/fantasy/mystery/romance/non-fiction, every now and then.
I found this group just by searching around on the Groups page on GoodReads. I haven't tried a Group discussion before and thought it would be fun to give it a try. My goal this year is set to 35 but depending on how much time I get to read this year I may increase it a little.
Happy Reading Everyone!

I adore books of all kinds - romance, archaeology, sci-fi, fantasy, bios, animals, poetry, westerns. Just let me at 'em!
Great to meet everyone. Here's to a bountiful 2017.

I really loved last year's "Every Year" challenge, despite not finishing it. While I'm participating in a bunch of challenges this year (as always, because why not, right?), I haven't yet found one that I really love; although, the Colours one comes pretty close. Good thing there are still many monthly and quarterly challenges left to discover throughout the year; I may yet find my favourite!

I'm guilty of rereading books so I thought I'd really try this year and read new books. I like reading Fantasy, romance, young adult, Biography and anything that catches my interest. I found this group when I logged into my homepage and it came up on the group discussions and I'm very glad it did.
My reading Goal is 10 books I used to read a lot more when I was younger but I find I'm reading less and less so I'm going to aim for 10 this year and hope I can keep added more books to my shelf and discover new authors.

I'm Janice and I'm from London, Canada. Was just browsing groups and came across this one. First time I've set a challenge for the number of books to read in a year. So hoping to read 25 for 2017 if not more. Right now I am reading Philippa Gregory and I'm hooked.
Happy New Year everyone!

After all, it is a new year full of wonderful reading.
My name is Tammy and I am a 46 year old female living in Los Angeles. I am divorced and single at the moment :( I have no pets as of right now.

My reading goal for this year is 40 books which I'm excited to work on. I've managed two books so far, though one was started last year. (My one New Years resolution is to finish more of the books I've started as I have a bad habit of jumping around books.)
The genres I read most is history, cozy mysteries and horror. For horror I'm especially interested in stories that fit the haunted house troupe.
I hope you all have a great new year!
