Reving | 106 comments I am not sure if I am posting this in the right place! Please feel free to move, so sorry! I have started Ghosts and also found this on a blog I read quite often. Just wanted to pass it on for your consideration when reading Ghosts. I love Telgemeier, but just wanted to pass this on: https://americanindiansinchildrenslit...

Julie Boatner | 6 comments I completely agree. Her books attract so many young readers and for good reason, but I really wish she had consulted more POC and experts when writing Ghosts. I'm hoping it does not win any big awards this January.

LauraW (lauralynnwalsh) | 115 comments Years ago, I read an analysis of Indian in the Cupboard, from a Native American perspective. The analysis had a similar message: we need to think carefully about the message from the point of view of the people depicted. I think we are improving with African Americans, but less so with other POC and some other denigrated groups.

Suzanne Maley | 1 comments Thank you for sharing the link to Debbie Reese's analysis of Ghosts. I try to be aware when reading but I totally missed the implications for the indigenous populations. It is important to be vigilant especially in children's literature and especially because the mistreatment of Native Americans continues today.
