Haha, Teresa!

I feel that if you have the opportunity to dive into a good book then take it. My date deadline rules are meant to make sure everyone has at least a month to get to their Someone Pick It. Starting early will do no harm as far as I can tell. Soft, rather than hard perimeters if you will. :)

Sophia and Barb, the reviews are mixed on this one and you will find mine at the bottom of the barrel. I could not get into the gist of the story nor the humor. I hope it works better for you when you decide to read it. We are all different and this one just didn't work for me. I rarely give one star.

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 1166 comments I know... to someone else this might be hilariously funny and cute. I did not see it that way and maybe I was having brain trouble that day, because I could not understand what the crap was going on half the time. It was weird... believe me. I hope, after someone reads it, they can explain what was going on. I felt like I needed a translator... the language was a mess. My review was short.

Haha, well don't count on me being the understander of weird humor. I've had trouble with books before when the humor fell flat with me and left the whole experience 'awk-ward'. ;)

Hi Patricia! I finished the book you picked for me. I liked it very much! Charlotte and Maria are very canon and I enjoyed the story above all in its first half.

Abigail Bok (regency_reader) Update on progress: I’m reading Robert Rodi’s Edgar and Emma: A Novel After Jane Austen. I am taking it ver-r-ry slowly because I am savoring every line! Clever, witty, almost error-free (and those few I’ve seen in the ultra-trivial class). Whew!

Thank you, thank you, Erika, for this pick! Rodi really knows his stuff—and his love for Jane Austen, especially her fierce side, shines through.

Teresa | 313 comments I've finished Locket in Time that J W kindly picked for me. For nearly half of it I was wondering how I was going to justify it as an Austenesque novel but that was remedied in the second half. Not the best I've ever read. My review is here https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3...

Don Jacobson | 20 comments Hi....I am a big fan of Jane Grix' work. This fit in the midst of it wonderfully. While the device used to give Lizzie a connection to the Darcy family is tried and true, it is again put to excellent use. I did enjoy the alternate paths down which Grix took Jane, Bingley and even Mrs. Bennet. I have, nyself, used the early demise of Mr B as a way to fulfill Mama's nightmares and set the action in different directions! Thank you for the pick!!! Review to be posted another time.

Carmen, I really wanted to like this book. The storyline was fairly OK but it's the writing that spoiled it for me. Too many typos, bad punctuation and too much non-era and non-UK English language use for me. Marianne went into a "tailspin" at one point, there were "sailboats" on the sea and too many people exclaiming "Fine!" There was even an "Okay, fine!" from one character. As a Brit, I may be a bit pickier than some about the language use but there's no real excuse for the examples I've cited.

I have another book by the same author, which I think is a sequel to this one, called The Daughters of Delaford and I may read it some day but not just yet.

Glad you liked it. I cannot decide whether I like it more when they make Caroline truly EVIL, or a misunderstood jilted ex. I think I am leaning toward EVIL.

message 149: by J. W. (new)

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 1166 comments Ahnya, you should brace yourself, because she is evil in this series. I am in book 5 and it is all boiling to a head. She is a wicked b-witch and I have a feeling that she is a bit demented. Even after three years of marriage and three children, she is still convinced that Darcy wants her over Elizabeth. If he even looks her way... she practically swoons. Something is about to happen and I have no idea what. She is giving that slit-eyed-evil look at Lydia and I don't think it is going to go well.

I'm so glad to read that!!! Especially ironic that title given the news yesterday about the "theory" of his looks and the terrible image they came up with. I refuse to accept Jane and Lizzy in 1790's fashions.
