Whew, Sheila! You finished that big long one you were working on. Way to go for that alone, but love seeing the others make a dent in your total too.

message 210: by Teresa (new)

Teresa | 313 comments Guys I think I'll get to the moon quicker than I'll get to Mr Bennet's Library!! I read such a variety of stuff that I'm very slow with the Austenesque stuff at the moment. But well done to you all here who are flying through the 'libraries'!!

message 211: by Sheila (new)

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 1301 comments And here I am neglecting the other books types I want to read...must get to finish the Outlander series...must, must, must!

message 212: by Mary (new)

Mary | 709 comments Teresa,I'll be joining you on the moon!!!
I know how you're feeling! I seem to be going off on a tangent as I'm reading a few crime/mystery books to keep the old grey matter alive! I simply can't seem to stay focused on JAFF for long.
At least we'll be together when we reach that celestial being, and we can always bring some JAFF to read on the journey!!!

I find I do better because I vary in all those others so I don't go stale on any one genre. Whew, Sheila. I have Fiery Cross on audio for this year. It's a long one. So I'm with you.

Love the thrillers and mysteries, Mary and they do make great brain puzzles. :)

20 All That This Entails

I loved this book. Loved the new characters, the way Miss Bingley got her comeuppance, and Lady Catherine realized the effects to her for the changees for Elizabeth and her family

Lenora Robinson | 174 comments 21 Shades of Prejudice Past: Pride and Prejudice and Witches

This is the last book in this series. It felt like it was written to tie up lose ends, not much story development. Was not the best read. 3.5 stars

Sophia (sophiarose) | 911 comments Mod
Well that's a shame that the final book didn't do more. Though I guess at least it tied things up for you.

Already in the second decade of books done. :)

Lenora Robinson | 174 comments 25 Ruined at Rosings: A Pride and Prejudice Sensual Intimate

This was not worth the price paid. To short, and nothing but gratuitous sex and puts both Darcy and Elizabeth in a light so against the canon that is belittling

message 223: by Sheila (new)

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 1301 comments Sad...but sometimes we are fooled.

message 225: by Sophia (new)

Sophia (sophiarose) | 911 comments Mod
Yeah, some times a variation goes too far into the variation and I can't see the characters or plot as P&P variation so it can disappoint. Bummer for you, Lenora, but hopefully the next book will be fantastic.

message 229: by Anji (new)

Anji | 275 comments I've become very wary of anything that's described as either a 'sensual' or 'intimate' short story, Nicole. I had several on my Kindle that I'd downloaded when they were free and even saying that, I don't think they were worth what I paid for them!

A couple were even parts of series and readers were expected to pay for each instalment, making it quite an expensive purchase for what was equivalent to a short novel. And then, the plot was only a means of getting to the next "intimate" scene.

message 230: by J. W. (new)

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 1166 comments Sheila @ 226) You are moving right along. Woohoo!!

Nicole @ 227) Those numbers are piling up!! Sorry about the low stars. Sometimes you get them. Better luck with the next books.

Anji @ 229) Yeah, I try to avoid those books that have he words intimate or sensual in the title. I don't mind a good love scene but porn... even soft porn, I try to avoid. Some of those authors aren't even taking time to write a decent story... they just write graphic sex scenes and publish them ad-nauseam. That way they don't have to deal with writing a book.

Changed hearts at Rosings Park by Mary Simonsen 4 stars

Lenora Robinson | 174 comments 28 Compromised: A Pride and Prejudice Variation Novella

This was ok, at least it had a story line thanks to Mr Collins

message 240: by Sheila (new)

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 1301 comments I just finished reading an unpublished story: Mending His Pen By: Dr. Breifs Cat. The author's book description - "Ill-conceived letters and a misunderstanding send Elizabeth and Darcy on missions of virtue throughout Meryton." There are 11 Chapters. And it was published on fanfiction on Oct 11, 2015.

https://www.fanfiction.net/s/11553029...

Briefly, Elizabeth after receiving Darcy's letter in Kent contrives to have her father write a letter to Darcy, apologizing. (She has taken his address off a letter his cousin, Anne, has written to him. As the parsonage takes all letters to and from Rosings into Hunsford village for posting, she has seen the address.) Darcy sends a reply but Mr. Bennet is not interested in reading it. So Elizabeth takes it and then answers it! Oops, now she has broken with propriety and, in Darcy's view, compromised herself so he arrives in Meryton, to settle with Mr. Bennet. When she states that he is mistaken he accuses her of only wanting to excite his interest. (Sounds like something Mr. Collins also said.) This Darcy is tenacious in his views and claims and will not leave town. Elizabeth seeks to ignore him but events prove that to be impossible. This plays out in a lovely and interesting manner. I recommend this.

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 1301 comments I just finished reading another unpublished 54 page long story:
The Worst of All Man - or It was all quite by Accident By MariEle
http://www.dwiggie.com/derby/old_2004...

It begins in Kent where Elizabeth has just received a letter from Jane announcing her engagement to Bingley. She has stayed home rather than attend a tea at Lady Catherine's. Darcy comes to visit and Elizabeth is now smugly pleased to throw Jane's happiness in his face, as she knows he was one of the reasons Bingley left Netherfield and Jane had not seen nor heard from him while staying with the Gardiners in London. (The Colonel has shared some facts with Elizabeth already.)

The story proceeds to reuse from canon the confrontation between Elizabeth and Lady Catherine as now one between the lady and her nephew...with Elizabeth looking on in dismay. Darcy arranges a carriage and the escort of his housekeeper from London to take her and Maria Lucas to London the next day. Of course, only good is heard from the lady about her employer. When they arrive in Cheapside Mrs. Gardiner and she become friendly. Thus the party is invited for tea at Darcy's town house the next day.

There while befriending Georgiana and seeing Darcy's dimples appear... who walks in but Lady C....again, demanding his engagement to Anne and insulting E. all over again.

The next day, after Elizabeth, Jane and Maria have traveled home they learn that Mr. Darcy's engagement to Anne has been announced in the newspapers. And the newspapers are not silent in the next few days about Anne de B., Darcy and a lady he was seen with in Kent and who seems to be hidden away in Hertfordshire. How will it all be sorted out and whose reputation will suffer?
