I do like to go to Women's Professional Soccer games when I have a chance but the team which played here in eastern Pennsylvania dissolved when the league went through some turmoil. I saw a game in WA when visiting my daughter and son-in-law there and also went with a friend to watch games in NJ and then when the USA played Germany we went to see that.

We don't have a women's local team. I've actually never been to a women's soccer game. We also have hurling here don't know if you've heard of it. Last year it started showing on Sky Sports in England. A stand up comedian said he'd just seen it for the first time and he'd like to congratulate everyone in Ireland on still being alive :):). It is a tough game. Our Waterford team is in the All Ireland semi final next weekend and there's great excitement in the county. Gives the whole place a lift.
We made a 2 week trip to Great Britain in spring of 2004. Waterford was one place we visited as we used B&Bs from Dublin to Shannon before flying home. I just pulled up a video about hurling on YouTube-fast and dangerous, IMHO.
Whoops Sheila don't ever say to an Irish person that you were in Great Britain and visited us!!! We're independent in the south and there is still animosity between people here and in England. Yes it certainly is dangerous. They mostly wear helmets now but that's quite a new addition.
Mea Culpa...I apologize. I do realize that part of Ireland is separate but just did not take time to think about it when I wrote that.
No probs Sheila. Doesn't bother me so much. I was actually born in England of Irish parents and came back when I was five and a half years old. My daughter now lives in London. But all that old rubbish between England and Ireland still goes on with some people. Time to let it all die I say.
Yes, parts of our southern states are having fall-out over some using Confederate flags and statues of rebel officers, etc. I was called "the nicest damn Yankee" she ever met by a secretary I worked with in Texas in 1970. And my mother was from Mississippi, a deep part of the south.
It's amazing isn't it the way old hatreds die hard? I don't understand it really. It takes so much energy to keep up with it all. Way too much more interesting stuff to be getting on with. Enjoyed this chat Sheila even if we might get rapped on the knuckles for going off topic :):):)
No one seems to mind that we wander in our conversations. I guess we could message each other instead.

Thanks for the good wishes, folks!Just harking back to the sports element for a second, I don't follow much apart from athletics and cricket. The latter is one that my US friends may find somewhat incomprehensible, I know. What I wanted to say is that there's a new player in the national team whose surname is Westley, but the commentators rarely sound the "t" so it comes out as "Wesley". So, is it wrong of me to think of "The Princess Bride" every time they say his name, or that I now (in my head, at least) call him The Dread Pirate Roberts instead?
Love it Anji... I would do the same. Sigh!!! I love 'The Princess Bride' still to this day. I buy new DVDs that have additional commentaries and interviews... anniversary editions, etc. Can't seem to help myself. Now... it would be funny if one of those announcers said... 'as you wish' after hearing the mispronounced name. HA!!!
The Princess Bride: read the book, bought the DVD and watched it over and over again with my children when they were younger. The Princess Bride
Didn't realize until recently (all the hoopla over the 30th anniversary of its release) that it was based on a book. Yet another to add to the TBR pile. *sigh* I've only seen the movie once, but it's certainly memorable. I always liked Cary Elwes but remember him more from Robin Hood: Men in Tights, which is a hoot. For those who don't remember it, it's a Mel Brooks film mocking Kevin Costner's Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.
Most fun is watching the two Robin Hood films back-to-back. In the other, Costner was horribly miscast as Robin, but Alan Rickman and Morgan Freeman make it worth watching.
It's National Friendship Day,Sheila? I never knew such a day existed! May I echo Sheila's sentiments and thank all my GR friends for the friendship, camaraderie and sense of fun we share, not to mind the laughter and humour some of our conversations are peppered with!
Happy Friendship Day -- to all my friends, especially those I've never actually met! It's good to know each one of you.
Several unpublished works I've been meaning to get to in this batch. Most of these were my travel companions on the flights to and from my destinations!140. Pairings! by JoanHall - 4 stars (4 chapters)
https://www.fanfiction.net/s/12033658/1/
I have to give this one 4 stars for originality. Even though it proposes ghastly hookups between unlikely P&P characters, the evil humor somehow captured me. More like a chuckle than a guffaw, but still...
141. The Duchess of Devonshire by fancyface8105 - 3 stars (32 chapters)
https://www.fanfiction.net/s/12276851/1/
Way too long, as many unpublished works tend to be. Some over-the-top melodramatic events and dialogue. Lots of repetition. Grammar/spelling editing and correction needed. However, the story is gripping, with a seriously injured Elizabeth literally falling into Duke Darcy's path in the first pages, followed by him obsessively tracking to solve the mystery of her identity and how she came to be in such a state. It's way off canon (an evil JANE??) but uses most of the P&P characters. Despite the errors and repetition, the writing is quite good most of the time.
142. In My Next Life...! - 3 stars (20 chapters)
Haven't written my review of this yet, but I struggled with the basic premise: a modern Elizabeth Bennet dies before her allotted time and gets the opportunity to be reincarnated - as Regency Elizabeth Bennet in the middle of the real life Pride and Prejudice story. She pops into her new life as a young woman rather than being reborn from infancy, and she also retains all her memories of her 21st century life. Strange.
143. The Prince & Elizabeth A Fairytale Love Story: A Pride & Prejudice Variation - 2.5 stars

144. Darcy and Elizabeth: Love Blooms at Pemberley: A Sweet Pride and Prejudice Variation - 3 stars

145. When We Are Married: A Pride and Prejudice Variation - 5 stars
I won't be writing a review of this until I reread it. Many other excellent reviewers said all the things I would have, anyway. I've read too many other books after this one and don't trust my recollection of the details to do it justice.
146. Find You in Paris - 4 stars

147. By Reason, by Reflection, by Everything - 3.5 stars
Will be posting my review of this ARC later today
148. Havenswood - 5 stars (10 chapters)

Oh, my! How do I describe this story without giving it all away? As the story opens, you will be confused as to where Elizabeth is. It's not Longbourn, not Netherfield, not Pemberley. She's surrounded by characters you've never heard of before, and she's doing menial chores like a servant. The mystery is solved before the end of the first chapter, by which time Mr. Darcy has appeared and some explanation has been provided. Keep reading. It's a spellbinder, and the writing is better than most published works. While there are bedroom scenes, they are discreetly written with NO detail whatsoever. Wonderful story in every respect.

I have Havenswood on my list to read. Maybe the next one since several here praise it so highly.
