Talia (kneyda) | 22 comments Is anyone else getting a lot of romance writer's newsletters this morning? It seems my email address has been sold or something because I have unsubscribed to at least 12 different newsletters that I never signed up for.

Not unless it was from Amazon at Amazon. I have unsubscribed to 5 more since I wrote that.

There was one at a JAFF blog where you had to put your email address. Maybe Pemberley to Milton? Can't remember but one of the main ones so I wrote it as email at wherever dot com. That is the only place I think they could have lifted it from unless someone sold it. That is why I thought I would check in here in case other people who enter free JAFF book blog contests also are having this happen. It seems to have slowed down. Only two more since I last wrote.

Marlene | 364 comments OK. I can't help you there. I don't go to the JAFF blogs because you people give me more than enough to consider. 😊. Though I keep Meredith's lists in the back of my mind.

I haven't had that happen to me from a JAFF contest though I did make the mistake a year ago of entering my email to get a free book and ended up getting- and I kid you not- at least a hundred author newsletters who all said I signed up by accepting the freebie. LOL I'm more careful about that now, but I had to do a pile of unsubscribing.
Sounds like your situation is different, Talia, and that maybe someone took your email and put it on a list without your permission.
I can sympathize, friend. :)

Well, I am happy that this isn't happening to more people at the moment than me. Phew! But thought I would check. No more tonight so maybe they are done for the day? Hoping that will be the last. Thanks, guys! Hugs!

message 160: by Don (new)

Don Jacobson | 20 comments OK...fellow JAFFers.

I am fighting with Kindle Direct Publishing over the search term "pride and prejudice variations." They just called out my Bennet Wardrobe book "Henry Fitzwilliam's War" for not being eligible to use the term. Of course, all of the Bennet Wardrobe books are P & P Variations. Kydia (named) appears in this book...Kitty (only referred to as A Lady) is the second lead character!

If I am barred from using "pride and prejudice variations (or sequels)" as a search term, what term would allow you to find my book as you casually browse? JAFF?

Apparently "Jane Austen" is now on the naughty list, too.

Help?

Can you rename it Henry Fitzwilliam's War: A Pride and Prejudice Variation? I don't think they can say anything if it is in the title. Only guessing here.

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 1301 comments Is there someone we can talk to at Kindle?...we as in JAFF readers...and reviewers.

message 163: by Don (new)

Don Jacobson | 20 comments No...seems to be an algorithm...but the humans are following up with rejections as well.

I am tempted to include it in the title. May be worth a shot (thanks, talia!)

It can't hurt and a lot of other authors seem to do that so why not you too. Good luck!

Debbie (dmbrown) | 734 comments I wonder if it has anything to do with JAFF readers who complain about books that drastically change the characterizations yet give them P&P character names. I just reviewed Mr. Darcy's Debt, which I felt was in that category. Of course, Ms. Floyd does have "A Pride & Prejudice Variation Novel" as the subtitle, and that's probably how she does get away with it.

Yeah, Don. Put it in the title.

message 166: by Don (new)

Don Jacobson | 20 comments It is an interesting line. The Bennet Wardrobe is rooted in the 1811 sense of P&P but, as you know, fires down the timeline as the characters find answers that help them arrive at their better selves. Of course, Jane has married Bingley and Lizzy has wed Darcy!

It just gets frustrating as casual readers discover the term "pride and prejudice variations" and use it. Those of us who are still building our reader base cannot depend on a search for "Don Jacobson."

I had the same opinion about that book - that the author simply used the names to attract an audience. I have read others which are the same.

It's odd and not consistent, Don. I just typed in a search for 'Jane Austen variations and sequels'. Mostly those with P&P in the title popped up, but there were also several that don't mention it or any other Austen novel in the title. They do reference Austen's novel in the blurb... who knows. Bummer you're going through this.

message 169: by J. W. (new)

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 1166 comments I have a question. Perhaps one of the GR's Librarians can help me. After I read Dangerous To Know [if you haven't read it do... just saying], it didn't line up with the rest of the books on my 'Read' bookshelf... you know... according to the date it was read.

In fact, it is sitting off by itself at the very, very beginning of my 'Read' bookshelf like a recalcitrant child in time-out. I've checked my dates... the started reading and the finished reading... they are in the same month and year.

I don't know what I've done, or what has happened, that kicked this book off the shelf. Any clues?

Has it been officially published? Maybe that has something to do with it. Just a guess.

message 171: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (dmbrown) | 734 comments I've had that experience too, Jeanne. I have no idea what causes it, and the only solution I found is to delete the book from your list and start over. Make sure you do a cut-and-paste on your review so you don't lose it and have to rewrite it. Unfortunately, this does mean you'll lose any comments posted on your original review.

I'm actually getting ready to do that with my DTK because it's in GR as two separate books- paperback and kindle- rather than two EDITIONS of the SAME book, and my current review and rating is for the paperback when I read it on my Kindle. I know it doesn't matter to anyone else, but it bugs the OCD in me!

message 172: by J. W. (new)

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 1166 comments Good question Sheila. I thought of that and waited until after the published date to see if it moved. It is posted on Amazon with a Nov 7 publishing date. My start and finish date precede that... possibly that could be the problem. Although, I think I've posted ARC reviews before with a date prior to publication.

message 173: by J. W. (new)

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 1166 comments Thanks Debbie... you know... I waited to post on Amazon until the Kindle showed up. However, on GR, only the paperback is still showing. It hasn't caught up with the Amazon posting yet. I think I will wait until that happens before I do anything. Yes... the OCD is driving me bats... that's why I asked the question in the first place so I could clean up my bookshelf. Tehe... couldn't help it. Thanks for responding.

message 174: by wosedwew (new)

wosedwew | 414 comments Debbie -- it has sometimes worked for me to go to "my activity" under the book and find "format". There should be an "edit" available which takes you to a page with an option to "switch to this edition". But sometimes the magic doesn't work -- no idea why not.

I have also had books not sort correctly according to date.

I'm so OCD I MUST have my "2017" category match my "reading challenge" and sometimes search for hours to find the book not showing up. Again -- no idea why not.

message 175: by Debbie (last edited Nov 11, 2017 09:25AM) (new)

Debbie (dmbrown) | 734 comments Jeanne, the Kindle version IS on GR. Shows up as a separate book with Joanna Starnes as the primary "author." The paperback version has Christina Boyd as the primary "author."

Rose, I did try to change format after I saw there were two DTK books on GR, but, again, each one is apparently independent of the other. When I look for "other editions" on each, the other edition is MIA.

Asaarrrggghhh!!! 😰

message 176: by J. W. (new)

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 1166 comments Debbie, thanks for joining my frustration. Sorry to set your weekend off on a Asarrrggghhh!!! I don't have an emoji symbolm, so will just have to use :-(

message 177: by Sophia (new)

Sophia (sophiarose) | 911 comments Mod
Hey, gals!

It is a pain. I've had it happen with other books, myself. I think Christina has contacted the GR librarians group to get it sorted so giving it a few days might have things all right and tight for you. Sorry about this.

message 178: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (dmbrown) | 734 comments HAH! I let Christina know of my problem and... VOILA!... it's all fixed. If, like me, your review was posted on the paperback version, you may now switch it to the Kindle version with one click! Problem has been addressed and solved! Life is good again!!
😁

Not sure what is causing that probably a glitch. I'm not sure this will work, but maybe try going to the top of the page, clicking on 'MY BOOKS' then near the top of that page in small print click on 'BATCH EDIT' and see if it shows up as a duplicate book for you. Then just delete one of them if it does. Make sure you delete the one without your book notes, though. LOL

message 181: by J. W. (last edited Nov 21, 2017 10:05PM) (new)

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 1166 comments I have also had that happen and when I look at my review and click on the edit... it will show the two items/dates at the bottom. I can delete the extra. That way I know I am not deleting my notes because I am on that page.

message 182: by Marlene (new)

Marlene | 364 comments Some of the reviews I've posted on Amazon over the last few months have never shown up. I've never even gotten an acknowledgement e-mail for these particular reviews saying that my review was being examined for approval, etc. This has happened several times, and each time I have resubmitted at some point with the EXACT SAME RESULTS! I haven't paid close enough attention, but I think that each time it's been for a book with many reviews. As if "OK, we've gotten 1,000 (or whatever) reviews on this book, so we're not going to bother considering it."

Has this happened to anyone else?

message 183: by Sheila (new)

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 1301 comments Yes, and I argued back and forth to no avail. My review just is not there and I feel sorry for the author more than anyone.

message 184: by J. W. (new)

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 1166 comments I've had that happen to me. When I click on the box that says 'write a customer review' ... I've had my original review pop back up and I just hit submit again. I watch my email and if I don't hear from them soon, I go back to the book site and see what happened.

message 185: by Marlene (new)

Marlene | 364 comments Huh.. So Sheila, you've talked to Amazon about this? And JW, have you ever had your review never post? And both of you - does this happen only for books with a lot of reviews?

message 186: by Marlene (new)

Marlene | 364 comments To clarify, JW, have you gotten to the point where it works when you go back repeatedly to resubmit? It hasn't worked for me, but I've given up if a resubmission didn't do the trick.

My situation was just too complicated to talk about. It never did post.

message 188: by Marlene (new)

Marlene | 364 comments Do you ladies still post on Amazon? I'm considering giving up since I have to do the work of removing links and HTML.

message 189: by J. W. (last edited Dec 22, 2017 01:33PM) (new)

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 1166 comments No, I've not had one NOT post... to my knowledge. I've not been posting as long as you guys have. Plus, I don't think I was posting where there were that many reviews already. Although there was one time that I didn't post to Amazon because there were already so many reviews. I did post it to GR. I didn't figure they needed mine. Sorry you are having trouble.

Follow up edit: your question popped up after I sent this... Yes, I still post to Amazon. I don't use my phone. I post from my computer.

message 190: by Sheila (new)

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 1301 comments I post on Goodreads first and maybe once a month I copy and paste those reviews to Amazon.

message 191: by J. W. (new)

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 1166 comments As soon as I post to GoodReads... I then post to Amazon because I figure I will forget. My memory is shot. I can still brush my teeth without assistance but... lawd! When I can't find my drawers... I will know I'm in trouble... or I won't know. Just saying.

message 192: by Marlene (new)

Marlene | 364 comments J.W., I post from my laptop. One more question - what was the highest number of times you had to resubmit until it worked? Thanks.

message 193: by Marlene (new)

Marlene | 364 comments Ha! My method is: review on Goodreads, then NetGalley (if applicable), then Amazon, then submit content ratings to My Book Cave's sister site. I usually take two days to do the posting and multiple days to write the review. (Mostly because I'm too tired to do it all at once.). The new glasses help a bit! I got rid of the trifocals in favor of the computer/reading glasses. (It was just too hard to stay in the tiny reading window with that first pair I got. These new ones are perfect!!!)

message 194: by Marlene (new)

Marlene | 364 comments Sheila - I like your method, by the way. 😊

Teresa | 313 comments I have Varifocals Marlene. Took me a long time to get used to them. Those computer ones you have seem ideal but I have to wear them all the time.

message 198: by Marlene (new)

Marlene | 364 comments I wore them for two weeks straight. I could read better without them, and help with focusing while reading was the reason I wanted them in the first place! These are just perfect! For the distance, it was really insignificant.

on paper white I'd touch towards the bottom and I could change from how long I had left of book , chapter etc.

can I do that with kindle voyage or is that manual only??

message 200: by Jeannine (new)

Jeannine This is a Goodreads question. I was reviewing my list of books read in 2017. Some of them are inaccurately marked as being read more than once, my error. I can't figure out how to fix it

Can anyone help me to correct this?

Thanks,
