Aha, I'm more familiar with the David Shapard annotateds, but I want to get to the others. I like that she has a strong scholarly connection to Austen. Thanks for sharing the link.

message 52: by Patricia (new)

Patricia | 62 comments not Austen related but figure I'd try here. I really like the Victoria series on pbs and was wondering of any fiction books that takes place during her reign in particularly the royal court.

Sophia (sophiarose) | 911 comments Mod
I'm sure there are many, Patricia.

The ones that comes to mind off the top of my head was the old Jean Plaidy books and a series I read just one book from, but want to go back for more. It was Mary Perry Hart's Queen Victoria's Daughters series.

Here is a GoodReads list I found that you might also find helpful since it's Queen Victoria in fiction books: https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/3...

Anji | 275 comments I wasn't sure where to post this, Sophia, so as I'm asking a couple of questions in the text, I thought I'd put it in here!

Have you all seen this?

A life size bronze statue of Jane Austen is to be placed in the Market Square in Basingstoke. I rather like what I can see of it in the photos of the maquette. She looks active and full of life!

What does everyone else think?

message 55: by Sophia (new)

Sophia (sophiarose) | 911 comments Mod
Thanks for sharing the article on the new statue for Basingstoke's Market Square. I like how he is imagining her responding to a greeting while she's out walking.

message 56: by Mary (new)

Mary | 709 comments Anji,I agree with Sophia and love the fact that they're capturing when out for a walk, reacting to someone bidding her good morning. Such a natural pose and the fact that she holds a book makes the whole image of Jane complete.
Thanks for passing on the link.

message 57: by Teresa (new)

Teresa | 313 comments Lovely pose. Will have to go on the bucket list to be visited.

message 58: by Patricia (new)

Patricia | 62 comments does anyone know what happened to The Jane Austen Code The Jane Austen Code by J.D. Gregory ? Not able to locate a copy anywhere.

message 59: by Sophia (new)

Sophia (sophiarose) | 911 comments Mod
I think it went out of print. You'll probably have to watch for it second hand or at an on-line marketplace.

message 60: by Teresa (new)

Teresa | 313 comments I've just had a trawl through all the second hand book sites that I use and it's not coming up on any of them which is unusual. Even on Amazon you can't get it on Marketplace.

Okay guys, fun question.

What do ya think? Do we have a Harlequin P&P retelling or no?
Pride and Pregnancy by Sarah M. Anderson

You have to check out the bolded part at the top of the blurb. Eh, see? It's a definite maybe. ;)

But seriously, I'm curious now so if you know about it let me know.

Other than the title and the bolded part, it doesn't seem like it has much to do with P&P. Hmm...

message 65: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (dmbrown) | 734 comments My guess is "no." Seems like a case of "alternate facts" to me!!

message 66: by Sophia (new)

Sophia (sophiarose) | 911 comments Mod
LOL! Yes, liberties were definitely taken if it is a modern retelling.

Harlequin Flame or whatever that steamy imprint is would like "The Trials of the Honorable F. Darcy" by Sara Angelini or "Fitzwilliam Darcy, Rock Star" by Heather Lynn Rigaud. Both are modern, fairly original plots.

Sophia (sophiarose) | 911 comments Mod
This is true, Suzan. :)

message 69: by Talia (last edited Feb 25, 2017 06:25PM) (new)

Talia (kneyda) | 22 comments I read a bunch of books from fan fiction sites this weekend and added them to the database but they don't show up in my book list or in my challenge list, what am I doing wrong?

I went and found the books and for some reason, even though I set the date as today, it didn't show up so it wouldn't list them. I reset the dates and all is well. Leaving this here in case someone else has that problem.

message 70: by Sophia (new)

Sophia (sophiarose) | 911 comments Mod
Oh good! Glad you figured out the quirk, Talia. I had that happen with a book about a week ago, but it did show up after I clicked it through a second time. Perseverance, lol!

message 71: by Teresa (new)

Teresa | 313 comments Posted this somewhere earlier and no reply. One of my books My Dear Cassandra, is coming up as read twice. Why I don't know. I can't get it back to one read. I've tried everything. Anyone any ideas?

message 72: by Mary (new)

Mary | 709 comments Teresa,I'm not good in technical things. Maybe you could delete it from your 'my books' pages. That will also delete your review.
Then start again by posting 'currently reading', alter your dates and then update progress.
If that makes no sense or doesn't work,my apologies. It's the only thing I can think of.

message 73: by Teresa (new)

Teresa | 313 comments I'll give it a go Mary. Thanks for answering.

message 74: by Mary (new)

Mary | 709 comments More than welcome. I'm not great,as you are aware, for solving technical problems! Hope it helped.

message 75: by Debbie (last edited Feb 26, 2017 08:34AM) (new)

Debbie (dmbrown) | 734 comments Teresa, I've noticed the same with some of my books. When you view the book on you GR shelf, click on "edit." Then look underneath the block for the written review. The two "readings" will be listed horizontally, and you'll see "X" on the far right. Click on the "X" for the one you want to delete, and your problem should be solved.

I've figured out that GR automatically enters a date when you change it from "to read" to "currently reading." If you enter a date yourself, it acts like it's a reread, even though it's probably the same date, and that's why it says you read it twice when you didn't. At least that's what I've deduced from playing with it!

message 76: by Mary (new)

Mary | 709 comments I bow to your knowledge,Debbie!!

message 77: by Anji (new)

Anji | 275 comments Thanks Debbie, I've got that showing on some of my books too. I'll have to take your advice and see if I can change them.

message 78: by Sophia (new)

Sophia (sophiarose) | 911 comments Mod
For doubles, guys.

Click on 'my books' at the top of the page. Then you'll see in small print at the top 'batch edit'. Click on that. Then look over to the right in small print and click on 'edit duplicates' (or however it calls it.) This will give you a list of all books showing as duplicate in your shelves. Scrolling through, you can click on the editions and then delete the one that is extra so you only end up with one.

message 79: by Teresa (new)

Teresa | 313 comments Thanks guys for all your help. I'll give everything a shot and something must work!!

message 80: by Mary (new)

Mary | 709 comments Hopefully,Teresa!!

message 81: by Anji (new)

Anji | 275 comments Thanks Sophia. I had quite a few accidental duplicates that I didn't know about.

message 82: by Teresa (new)

Teresa | 313 comments Yehhhh! I don't know what I did but it's actually worked!! Thanks guys for all your help.

message 83: by Sophia (new)

Sophia (sophiarose) | 911 comments Mod
@Anji- glad it helped. :)

@Teresa- yay, that your glitch is fixed.

message 84: by J. W. (new)

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 1166 comments I have noticed that when I open an ebook, that I've bought through Amazon, there is a toggle switch that is related to my GR shelves. It will automatically switch it from 'to read' to 'currently reading' unless I tell it not to.

If I have previously opened the book, prior to the conversion, I can manually click it by going to the 'about this book' box and changing the status that way.

When I open the book for the first time, the 'about this book' box pops up and the toggle switch is there. I don't know if anyone else has noticed this.

Like Debbie said, when I manually try to put the read dates in... it messed me up. However, if I let Amazon/GR do it, I didn't have any problems. Then, when I post my review, before I hit save, I scroll to the bottom of the page and it will tell me if it is a duplicate and I can X out the extra entry.

If you have already posted a review and it says 'read 2 times,' and you haven't, you can go to the review and edit it... scroll to the bottom and X out that second book. Or, as Sophia suggests, remove all duplicates at one time with her suggestion.

Lots of ways to tackle this little glitch. After a conversion, there are always a few problems to work out. Once it is running more smoothly, and we understand all it's little quirks, it will be very convenient and we won't remember the old ways.

Hang in there guys. We have lots of help from Debbie, Sophia, and Nicole to dig us out of problems.

Sophia (sophiarose) | 911 comments Mod
Good extra info, Jeanne. I have noticed the new ability to count 're-reads' has created more difficulties than we had in the first place. LOL.

message 86: by J. W. (new)

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 1166 comments Sophia, I think when GR posted that banner across the top of the homepage, many didn't click on it, or know that they could and/or should, as it had the explanation and graphics on the steps of the new 'reread' ability. Nor did we/I realize it also explained how to remove the extra book as Debbie explained. I had to learn the hard way.

Such is the grief and joy of a conversion. We'll get it and, as we said before, there is lots of help to get us through it. You guys rock.

Hey Myra!

As far as Austenesque, I thought the Darcy's Hope books and Bluebells in Mourning were knocked off sock-worthy.

The latest Patricia Briggs, Silence Fallen and Mary Balogh's new The Westcotts series was great, too.

I second Sophia's choice of the Darcy's Hope books; Darcy's Hope: Beauty from Ashes: A WWI Pride & Prejudice Variation and Darcy's Hope at Donwell Abbey: A WWI Pride & Prejudice Variation by Ginger Monette.

May I also recommend The Many Lives of Fitzwilliam Darcy by Beau North and Brooke West?

message 90: by Mary (new)

Mary | 709 comments I second Anji's recommendations and although I've read about a quarter of it,Im loving A Moment Forever by Cat Gardner. A very special book!

I've heard many good things about that book, Mary. It's the only one of Cat's books I don't have.

I loved that book! It was a treat to find the references to P&P, too.

Anji | 275 comments Hi - question for Sophia.

Are we having a Someone Pick It For Me in April? Can't see a thread started yet.

message 94: by Sophia (new)

Sophia (sophiarose) | 911 comments Mod
Yes, we are, Anji! I was waiting a little, but I can get it up this week for lists to be added. I know I've got a good one started already in my head. :)

message 95: by J. W. (new)

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 1166 comments Great question Anji.

Sophia, I have decided to clean out my TBR pile and the list I will create, I will keep until it is empty. So, as I mark off books, I'll keep submitting the same list until those older books are GONE!!! Otherwise, I am never going to pick them. It's a plan.

Mary | 709 comments Anna-I agree with you! A Moment Forever is a really lovely book.
Anji-I'm still only a quarter way through, but if you're in the mood for a long story, this is your book!!!
