Hi Everyone,

It sounds like there is some energy around doing an A to Z Challenge for 2017, so let's do it! While I think an A to Z will give each of us a lot more flexibility in what we read, I decided I'd start my own reading with a list. We'll see if I stick to it!

Diane Premo | 23 comments Great idea! Some people in our library book group asked for the 2016 challenge so I will pass this on to them.

I've thought about putting this out for patrons, too. Do you think people would do it?

message 4: by Chad (new)

Chad Cunningham | 12 comments I am so going to use this as a reason to read stuff that's been waiting on my Kindle.

Hi Everyone,

I've created A to Z categories in our Group Bookshelf, so you can start adding your completed books right away. I will continue to do monthly drawings throughout the year, so make sure to enter your reading here.

Thanks.

Patty

message 7: by Margaret (new)

Margaret | 1 comments Can you use books you read in other challenges? I want to join but am already in the postal book club and the roc harder book club. I don't know if I'll have time for another one unless I can use the books I read for those in this challenge.
Margaret

message 8: by Diane (new)

Diane Premo | 23 comments Patty--I do think patrons would go for it in a big way! I will share with our book groups when we meet next week.

message 9: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (stephthebookworm) | 17 comments Sounds fun! I am currently reading the letter T!

message 10: by Patricia (new)

Patricia (patriciau) | 168 comments Mod
Margaret, absolutely you can use books you read in other groups, etc.
Diane, it looks like Alicia Gunther has set up an A to Z patron challenge through the Central FB and Goodreads pages.
Stephanie, make sure to add your book to thr Group bookshelf!

message 11: by Pat (new)

Pat (patrapp) | 28 comments This is great! Rather than make a list ahead of time, I'm going to do mine more like a fill-in-the-blank, bingo-style game. I frequently read the back of a book and think, "This sounds good, but I won't read it now." I can imagine now I'll do that and say, "This sounds good, and it starts with L! I need that letter! I'm reading this next!" :)

message 12: by Diane (new)

Diane Premo | 23 comments I will post it to Winton's Facebook page as well.

Anne Brown | 12 comments What is the link to the Central Goodreads page so that we can share it with patrons?

*edit* Nevermind, I found it. Here it is in case anyone else is looking: https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/...

message 14: by Jason (new)

Jason (82jp) | 23 comments I'm trying to find it in the discussions, but I can't seem to be able to. What are the rules as far as what you can count as a letter? I know title and author, but only the author's last name? and if there's an illustrator can we also use their first of last name?

message 15: by Patricia (last edited Jan 09, 2017 04:07PM) (new)

Patricia (patriciau) | 168 comments Mod
It can be title, author, or illustrator - first name or last name. The "rules" are pretty flexible, except for one - have fun. :-)

message 16: by Jason (new)

Jason (82jp) | 23 comments Awesome! I'm gonna see if I can do a whole cycle this month :).

message 17: by Patricia (new)

Patricia (patriciau) | 168 comments Mod
By "cycle" do you mean the whole alphabet? You realize it's a year-long challenge, right? If you can do that, WOW!

message 18: by Jason (new)

Jason (82jp) | 23 comments Well, yeah. I read a lot and it's easier to fit what I'm already reading into A-Z categories than genres. That's not why I didn't participate; it was because of committee-type obligations.

Hi Joanne! Make sure you add your books to the Group Bookshelf. That's where I pull the names for the monthly drawings.

Michelle Finn | 2 comments I just tried to upload the book I am currently reading, A Man Called Ove, and see that someone else has already added it to our group bookshelf. I can't figure out how to also "get credit" for reading this book that is already "assigned" to someone else.
