What does your year of reading in 2016 look like?

I started a new to me series: Walt Longmire

I read 10 classics.

The Secret Wisdom of the Earth has been on the TBR for some time. I'll have to look at it again. I'll be looking for my favorites in the morning.

Love Longmire! Wish he was my dad. Despite use of the book plots, the TV series has a very different flavor.

Secret Wisdom looks fascinating.

Seems like my year was war and more war, especially the U.S. Civil War and World War 2.

Favorite novel was Do Not Say We Have Nothing. Great saga of resilience and family bonds in China with lots of wisdom about the power of music and stories.

Best non-fiction was Beyond Words: What Animals Think and Feel, about the minds and societies of elephants, wolves, and killer whales.

Also, Churchill's biography during WW2, The Last Lion 3: Winston Spencer Churchill: Defender of the Realm, 1940-1965 totally absorbed me for about a month.

You guys should try posting a reading summary as if it was a review to 2016 on Goodreads. A venue to use any way you want. I use it to get down into a lot of categories and make order of my chaotic readings.

That is what I was thinking of for this thread before I knew that Goodreads did that.

I might do both as I'm still trying to formulate what I want to say about the year. I'm reading Dark Matter now and it seems an excellent ending point or starting point to 2016, reading or just the year in general.

If you made a reading challenge for the year, that can be sorted by rating. And just looking at books read you can sort by rating and all 5 stars ever read come up in order read.

For me I looked at books read by date, set view to only show titly, author, and rating amd then cut amd pasted into a spreadsheet so I could apply various sorting codes in new columns.

I have reluctantly come to the conclusion that I will not meet my reading goal for this year falling one book short. Christmas company was wonderful but not much reading happened. The good news is I should knock out two books just a few days into 2017. Ha!

It was a good year none-the-less.

I bet you could find a worthy one-sitting novella. Bartleby the Scrivener as a free e-book for example.

I can check to see what books are already on my Kindle as my current NF seems to be overdue. I'd hoped to finish it this year, but it's not grabbing me enough to spend several hours per day. I do need to power through it, though as I have several checked out and waiting for a download.

As usual I didn't make myself clear. I was wondering if the GR 2016 page itself, could be sort. I know how to sort my list of books read. I can't see a way to sort the GR 2016 book covers.

I want to select by year, then sort by rating, so may have to follow Michaels advice, and cut and paste to a spreadsheet, but wish I could know how to do it in GR..

Wonderful list. You don't shy away from long ones. I overcame the daunting heft of the Byatt and Chabon to come away with 5 stars for a reward, but still have some resistance to the fat Catton and Yanagihara books. That Vann was 5 stars for me too, so I am thinking about finding more of him.

Due to physical limitations, since I now only read EBOOKS , I am thrilled to be able to do this. I think I have now read all the Vann books, but if I had to pick three favourites from the above list, for different reasons, they would be : Leap: for the two strand different 'musical' thrumming/quiet rhythm/pace. The Natural way : just STUNNING; scary, could be so possible.. (VERY OZ) and Where the Trees, as the dendographs sent me scurrying to Mr Google and opened the most interesting research. LOVED all the others, for varied reasons, too.

Okay. I agree with sorting it by rating, or even just giving options to sort it.
