ABANDONED. Book I believe is from 2014-16, first in a series - Guy in college is implanted with alien technology that gives him superpowers, fights alien beasts then time resets

I think I found the book on Amazon Unlimited but it was an old account so I can't look up my read history, here's a basic synopsis:

Guy in college comes home after a night out in the pub(I think) and there is a stranger there with impossible strength that injects him with some kind of alien technology then he wakes up covered in his own blood but completely unharmed.

From what I remember of the main character, he has 3 roommates, 2 guys that are pretty much just nerds that makes comic books and watch film trilogies, and a girl he mostly relates with and talks to most but has an asshole boyfriends throughout the book that is actually hired by the government to gather intel and observe the main characted

After a few days, footage of an alien beast killing everyone in a city is on the news and this guy has some kind of a heart attack which turns out to be the technology activating and it grants him super strength and he realises that he's the only one that understands what this beast wants.

Turns out the one who gave him these powers is trying to stop earth from being invaded and his brother leads the species trying to invade earth but they can't do it unless they defeat their challenger (the guy). That's as much as I vividly remember but I just want to know because I believe the second book in the series was to be released soon after I read it so I'd like to read it
