Amazon - is it against Amazon's TOS to link to my book by writing at a competitor book's review?

Yes I think Amazon will remove it, and you'll likely get a backlash. Reviews are for the readers of the book, not a advertising opportunity for other authors.
Not good form, and probably significantly harmful for your reputation.

I've never seen it done, but I'm sure it's been tried. Those reviews are probably picked up early and deleted.

Like others have said, it almost definitely violates Amazon's TOS. Beyond that, it would be considered bad form to advertise in another author's public space.

However, if you write awesome reviews that readers appreciate, it could generate interest in your own work. Being honest, helpful, and entertaining is the best way to "advertise" through reviews.

Not 100% sure about TOS, but I'm 100% positive it'd be at best in bad form, and would make you look like a spammer. Not a good idea.

I agree Yzabel. It has been done and it doesn't always get picked up. I think it is a very shady practice and I certainly wouldn't buy from an author who spammed my books' reviews.
