The Royal Box looks good, Carol. I have quickly nabbed a cheap second hand copy, as it is not on kindle and I fear it might be hard for some to get hold of.
Death at the President's Lodging is a good read. I've read that before - so two good suggestions already :)

The Poisoned Chocolates Case
As I've heard it's good and an interesting take on the genre, so would like to nominate that please. I think there is a new edition out with another potential solution added by Martin Edwards.
I had also been planning to nominate The Poisoned Chocolates Case, but you got in first, Michelle!
I remember loving this book by Anthony Berkeley as a teenager, so am keen to reread it in the new British Library Crime Classics edition you mentioned.

I also enjoyed Death at the President's Lodgings and have been meaning to read more by Michael Innes.
Frances Parkinson Keyes is an author I don't think I've read anything by, who sounds very interesting too. As you say, Susan, great suggestions already!

Great minds think alike!

I'll also nominate The Poisoned Chocolates Case by Anthony Berkeley as well. I never read the book before, but I heard a lot of good things about it and it's definitely on my list of future reads.

A month ago I believe this was a $1.99 special. Glad I picked it up then. It is the basis for the movie Topkapi, which I remember enjoying years ago.
I have only read one Eric Ambler, but enjoyed it very much. Oh, spoilt for choice this time! Decisions, decisions...

Thanks Judy, great to be with the group

No, there's no rule against it, Abigail. We've had several books nominated more than once and sometimes they win through in the end! :)
I would love to re-read Death at the President's Lodging. I think that is edging it for me, this month. However, my copy of The Royal Box turned up yesterday...
Any more nominations? I'd like to get the poll up this weekend, a bit early this month because of Christmas.
The poll is now up! It's going to be a difficult choice once again...

They all look good and are available at some library in some format so I voted for the only one that was already on my TBR list - I would so like to whittle that list down.
Michael Innes has quite a lead now! I read Death at the President's Lodging not so long ago and, if it wins, I think it will make for a great discussion. :)
There has been a resurgence in the Poisoned Chocolates Case, but let's see whether it will be enough for a win? Possibly a book that will deserve a second nomination?
Just to let people know, this poll is set to finish a bit earlier in the month than usual, on December 21.
Thanks, Susan. Also gives us a chance to have a couple of fun polls about favourite reads of the year :)
We have a winner - our February group read will be Death at the President's Lodging by Michael Innes.

I think that the Inspector Appleby books get better as you progress in the series but am glad that this has won.
