I won't be around much for a couple of weeks. I'm heading to London for two weeks holiday.
Oddly enough, I am staying, quite literally, just around the corner from where Ben sites the Folly. I'll be walking past it every day.

Welcome, Margaret! Glad you could join all us Folly Irregulars.
And oh my goodness! You'll be near the Folly location! Can you post a picture, if possible, of the actual location, please, if you've got the time?

I'll take some photos :)

When you know the places, it makes each reading a bit more special because you can see the places in your mind's eye.

was helpfully directed by Carol to the virtual Folly. I look forward to debating the likelihood of a Muslim Ninja being found chowing down on a kebab at midnight

I'm a mum, an archaeology fan and I read more than is probably socially acceptable! Rivers of London is the book/series I find myself recommending whenever people ask me what I like to read and I explain it as a Harry Potter meets The Bill mash-up!
Anyway, Hi! Glad I've found you all. :)

There is no such things as a socially acceptable level of reading. All reading is socially acceptable. :D

Of course, my apologies! :)

That's not what everyone says! Especially not when it's my turn to make dinner and I have 'forgotten' in favour of reading just one more chapter!

Sorry Carol and Ronnie - I did think that it might not translate, but The Bill was so very British, rather like Peter and Nightingale. There's tea and rain and quirky characters and being polite - I think I saw one episode! CSI Miami - it isn't ! (No, I don't watch a lot of TV - that's the first US Police type drama that came to mind)!
Anyway apologies, I didn't mean to confuse anyone and I'd be interested in how you guys describe the wonder that is RoL to the uninitiated! My descriptions rarely do it justice.

I claim it's not my fault - there are too many good books out there and I won't want to miss any of them! ;)

No apologies needed! I was crossing my fingers that it might be another book series :D

It's fun to watch the earlier years, and seeing actor and actresses (who are now very well known) in their early professional acting jobs.
I'd say the nearest US equivalent is "Hill Street Blues".

First two season are still my favourites. It had some really good lines.
Prisoner in the cells: I want Galloway! (Meaning DI Roy Galloway)
PC 'Taffy' Edwards: Boiled or fried?

I think I saw one episode - I never was a big police drama fan. I like my coppers to have a Ford Asbo and a girlfriend who's a river goddess! ;)

The first Peter Grant was not a success for me, I loved the beginning, but then almost DNFd it in the second part of the book. I picked up the second book as a group read with another group recently and just finished Foxglove Summer. I loved all the books and plan to re-read the first one soonish.
I lived in London for four years, so I absolutely love the setting, the wording, the Britishness and Aaronovitch‘s humour.
The Hanging Tree is planned for June...
