Dee Sauter (indeathaddict) | 7583 comments Carlin Reed lives in fear, off the grid, moving from place to place. So Battle Ridge, Wyoming, a small town in the middle of nowhere, seems like a good place to lie low for a while. But after becoming cook and housekeeper to cattle rancher Zeke Decker, Carlin suspects that she’s made her first mistake. Rugged, sexy, and too distracting for his own good, Zeke is pure temptation mixed with something deep and primal that makes Carlin feel almost safe. Soon things are getting way too hot in the kitchen.

Zeke doesn't challenge Carlin’s terms: cash, dead bolts, and no questions. It is easy to see that she’s a woman in trouble. Problem is, he’s so blindsided by his attraction to her he can’t think straight. Zeke tries to stay all business, no complications—but that game plan is sabotaged the second Carlin gets under his skin. And when her terrifying past follows her to the ranch, Carlin faces a heartbreaking choice: run away from the man she loves, or put him in the crosshairs of a madman.

Janeiowa | 5009 comments I really enjoyed this book and the characters in it, and I'm hoping there are more of this type coming from Ms Howard.

Nancy (gr-nancy-a) | 799 comments Wow! How have I missed this?!? Will track it down..thank you LH fans.

Nancy (gr-nancy-a) | 799 comments Adding on...I Did read it (checked my GR record) but only rated it 3 stars. The plot definitely sounds good but evidently I was not wowed..may have to revisit that one.

Eve (everf) | 815 comments Running Wild was my favorite story by Linda Howard/Linda Jones but it was not my favorite by Linda Howard. But it was still good and enjoyable story!
There were some things I did not like (view spoiler) and I wanted to question (view spoiler).

Look forward rereading it and reading your comments :)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) I loved this book and have been waiting for more in the series.

Anita (anitanodiva) | 1619 comments I thought the minor characters had great potential and always wanted to see more books written in this series.

Janeiowa | 5009 comments Me, too, and I thought this was the first in a series, and I was looking forward to more.

I read somewhere that the two Lindas weren't going further with the series, because of a publisher change??? Did anyone read that, or am I having a "senior moment"?

Anyway, I wish they'd get back to this type of writing.

message 9: by Jonetta (new)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) That's what I'd heard, too. I think they announced that on a Facebook post. Very disappointing.

I read that also, Jane, so no senior moments. I too was wanting more in the series, but perhaps they could write a similar book series that might suffice. I don't know that much about the contracts and such but... Why didn't that happen with Blood Born or was it because the publisher chose to discontinue the series?

message 11: by Janeiowa (new)

Janeiowa | 5009 comments Apparently...so they...or rather Linda J ....when Linda H's husband became so,ill.....took it over and published it independently...so the publisher must have given up the series rights.

I will be reading this next week or after mid-December, I'll read all your comments and join in then! :)

I wish they would have given up the rights to this book. I am just starting on this book and I forgot how good it was, well at least at the beginning.

I know with Blood Born the publishers were NOT going to publish any more of the series. That was not the case with the Battle Creek series.

Anita (anitanodiva) | 1619 comments Running Wild (The Men from Battle Ridge, #1) by Linda Howard was published in 2012, four years ago. It was the last good book LH wrote and even it had a retread plot that has been done to death by dozens of other authors. I would like to see more of this series, but I'm not holding my breath.

Eve (everf) | 815 comments Its kinda weird that first they announce it will be a series and now its 1-book-series... It was enjoyable story and I would also like to see more of this series.
Not holding my breath though because Linda Jones replied at Linda Howard/Linda Jones FB page that there will likely not be another book in the Battle Bridge series, since they are now with different publisher.
So I assume that a) they did not have the series rights or b) they just didn't know where to go with the series and decided to publish no more books.

Dee Sauter (indeathaddict) | 7583 comments I assumed that the publisher wouldn't allow another book in the series to be published by a different publisher.

I love the book and finished it a few days ago. My only thought was after Kat asked Carlin her name after 10 months from running from Brad you think that she wouldn't have to think about a name. It would have already been established.

Also I would think (view spoiler)

I finished Running Wild last night and I really enjoyed it! I'm annoyed there aren't any more books in this series - I would have loved to read Kat's story...would she end up with Spencer or some other Battle Ridge man..? And why has she been single for so long...what happened in her past..so many questions!!
I also really liked the scene where Spencer nearly got Carlin killed and how Zeke risked his own life to save her..I think the descriptions of every action, the situation, were amazing..
I also enjoyed their interactions (Zeke and Carlin) all throughout.. hilarious and steamy!

Dee Sauter (indeathaddict) | 7583 comments I guess that goes to show authors to really look at the contract and see if they can take their series with them when they change publishers. Truthfully, I shudder to think if that would have happened with the in death series.

message 19: by Janeiowa (last edited Feb 01, 2017 11:06AM) (new)

Janeiowa | 5009 comments Other authors seem to have found a way around this, and authors as experienced as LH could do so, too, I hope.

Or...just write another book as good as this one and put it in a Wyoming series, etc. I don't think LH fans appreciate how good this one was...at least in my opinion, of course! ;)

Dee Sauter (indeathaddict) | 7583 comments I agree I LOVED this book and I do wish she would/could write the next in the series.

message 21: by Eve (new)

Eve (everf) | 815 comments It was really stupid to drop The Men from Battle Ridge series! Especially as the Running Wild was announced as book #1 and there were promising openings for book #2...but then Finito! Ehh, very dissapointing.
