jaxnsmom | 8341 comments 1. What is your name? (First, Last, Middle, Nickname) – donna/jaxnsmom
Read a book that contains one of your names in some way – author, title, character.

✔ 2. What is your favourite sport? – I'm too lazy to participate in any (and in no physical condition), but I like watching baseball. Does fetch where the dog actually does the fetching count?
Ok, I'm going with fetch, the only problem is that for most of my dogs I've usually been the one doing the fetching :)
Read a book that is either about your favourite sport or one of the characters plays that sport. You could also chose a book where the cover shows that sport.

✔ 3. What colour are your eyes? – Blue
Read a book where the colour of your eyes is the main colour of the cover, or the word is in the title.

4. Have you ever had a broken bone? – don't think so - I know that should be something I know the answer to, but it was my foot and I can't remember if the bone was broken or cracked. If it comes down to it, I'll say no According to Sam's first aid instructor cracked bones count, so I'm saying yes
If yes, read a book with the word “Bone” in the title. If no, read a book about archeology (the character may be an archeologist, the book may be set in a museum, etc)

5. What is your favourite movie? –I'll go with Bell, Book and Candle, with James Stewart and Kim Novak. I can watch it whenever it comes on.
If the movie is an adaptation, read the book that inspired the movie. Or, read a book that is written by the same author. Or, read a book that has the same title. If the movie is not an adaptation, read a book with a similar theme or has the same title.
Bell Book and Candle

6. What is your favourite book? – Really??? I can't even narrow it down to a genre! His Majesty's Dragon since that's where I fell in love with Temeraire.
Read it again. Or, read a book that has the same title. Or read a book by the same author. If you can’t find the same title, or the author only has the one book, go to the book page and click on “Readers Also Enjoyed”. Select a book from the list.
The Privilege of the Sword

7. Pick a number between 1 and 10. – 8
Select a series and read the book that corresponds to that number. Or, read a book with the number in the title.
Lover Mine 3/20

8. What is your favourite holiday? – I'm sure it's not really a holiday, but I'm going to say Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day. I always asked if that included my four-legged kids, but for some reason my employers never agreed with my thinking. ☺
Read a book that is about that holiday, set during that holiday, or has the name in the title.

9. What is your relationship status? – Single
Read a book with that word in the title, or where the main character or author shares that status. Or…. Get creative. What kind of book will be representative?

10. Are you right or left handed? – Right
Read a book with that word in the title.

11. What is your birthday month? – August
Read a book with the selected month in the title, or set during that month.

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments 13. What is your favourite type of food? (Chinese, Italian, Mexican, etc) – Indian, but Thai is a close second
Read a book set in the country or region of choice. (Chinese – set in China, Italian – set in Italy, etc.) If you chose a type of food that is not specific to a country, what region would you find it prevalent? Read a book set in that region. For example – Seafood would be prevalent in the coastal areas of Canada, United States, among others.

14. What is something you use daily? (brush, computer, car, get creative) - I'd like to say my brain, but I'm pretty sure that's not true.
Read a book with that word in the title. Or, is on the cover. Or…. Get creative. What kind of book will represent that item?

15. What is your shoe size? (No halves; roll up to next number) – 8
Select that number of books on your TBR, put them into the Fruit Machine (or another randomizer), and read the one that is selected. If you used European sizes, convert to US using this site: https://www.softmoc.com/ca/shoesize.asp That will reduce the number of books you need to plug into the Fruit Machine.

16. What is your favourite Ice cream flavour? – In cold weather I prefer chocolate flavors, while in warm weather I prefer fruit flavors. I'll go Mango Gelati with Vanilla Custard.
Read a book that either represents that flavour by the colour of the cover, or in the title. You may also chose a book that represents that flavour in some way.

17. What is your country of birth? – US
Read a book set in that country, or written by an author that was also born in that country.

Read a book with either the season in the title, or set in that season.

19. What is your current desk top picture? – Since I lost my job, it's bland, but my favorite picture was of my brother holding my younger niece in a bag. He's standing in front of a sign that says "I went shopping at the bad girl store".
Interpret that desk top picture any way you like. Read a book that represents that interpretation. For example, mine is a magnified picture of a frozen soap bubble. I could interpret it as ice, or alien landscape, or bubble. I could read a book with “Ice” in the title, a book set on an alien planet, or has bubbles on the cover. The gophering could be endless on this one.

20. What is your preferred mode of transport? – The TARDIS
Read a book with your selection on the cover, or in the title, or it plays a significant role in the book.

21. How many candles were on your last birthday cake? – None, I haven't celebrated my birthday in years. I usually have to count forward from my year of birth to figure out how old I am :)
Go to your TBR and order the shelf by number. Read the book that corresponds to your answer. If you picked “none” or “zero” as your answer, your number will be 100.

22. Have you been in an accident? – Yes, several, but only a couple were my fault.
If yes, read a book set in a hospital, or with the word “accident” in title. If no, read a book that is a thriller, in which an accident is a high probability.

23. Do you prefer a shower or bath? – Shower
Read a book with your selected word in the title, or depicted on the cover.

24. Name a place you’d like to visit. – Alaska, or Ireland because I love stout and haven't been able to like scotch or it would be Scotland. I'll go with Alaska.
Read a book set in that location.

My second one I got for my 50th b'day - paw prints on my left calf. I plan on getting another for my 60th - a ribbon, half red for heart disease and half green for lymphoma in memoriam for my mom.
Read a book that represents your tattoo in some way. For example, if you have a tattoo of a rose, your book choice could have a rose on the cover, in the title, or a proper name of the author or character.

28. Do you prefer Classic or Contemporary? – I'll say classic since I like most HF better than contemporary, at least for the time being.

32. What is the feature you are most often complimented on? – Eyes
Read a book with that feature on the cover or in the title.

33. Would you rather encounter a ghost, an alien, or neither? –An alien (not ALF or E.T.)
If ghost, read a ghost story. If alien, read a story with aliens in it. If neither, read a book about another supernatural being other than a ghost or alien (werewolf, vampire, witch, succubus, etc).

34. What is your favourite animal (other than domestic pets)? – Hmmm, well there is that attachment I had to flying monkeys :)
Read a book with that creature on the cover, in the title, or in the story.

35. What type of holiday do you prefer? (Beach, Mountain, Camping, exotic, etc) – Somewhere I've never been with historical, mythical, and quirky spots that are off the beaten track (When I lived in Winchester one of the most interesting things I discovered was a brick flat-top pyramid. In it was a man buried with his gun and his dog)
Read a book in that setting or that represents your choice.

36. If you had to lose one of the 5 senses, which would you prefer it to be? – Smell, since there are so many stinky things

37. Who is your favourite author? – Eenie, Meenie, Miney, Mo - and the pick is Bernard Cornwell.
Read either a book by that author, or a book recommended by that author.

38. Do you prefer tea, coffee, or water? – I don't like coffee, I've been trying to drink a ton of water this year, but I'll say tea when it's brewed properly.
If tea or coffee, read a book with the word in the title, or set in a country where that beverage is a huge export (ie China for tea, Brazil for coffee). If water, read a book with the word in the title, or set on/near a large body of water.

39. What is your birthstone using the US 2016 listing: Peridot(https://www.americangemsociety.org/en...) –
Read a book with that gemstone on the cover, in the title, or the colour of that gemstone is the colour of the cover.

40. What is your favourite fruit? – currently mangoes, but since I have trouble picking a ripe one I should probably go with white peaches
Read a book with that fruit on the cover, in the title, or the colour of that fruit is the colour of the cover.

41. Issue you are passionate about (abortion, euthanasia, animal rights… etc) – women's rights, especially in countries where atrocities are carried out against them.
Read a book where this issue is prominent or is represented in some way. It may be fiction or non-fiction.

42. Would you rather explore in space or undersea? – space, the final frontier
Read a book in that setting.

43. To what time period would you like to time travel? – It used to be the old West (while reading all of Louis L'Amour' books, but really, life without indoor bathrooms and a/c, I know I wouldn't have done well. (I'd probably be a saloon girl) After that there were a lot of other book related places where I dreamed of living, but I knew I wouldn't have the fun/dramatic/meaningful lives the characters had, so I had to only live in those places through the books. I would like to live in the mid 24th century, possibly traveling aboard the Enterprise, but Earth would need to be as characterized in ST:TNG. Or, if I was traveling with Doctor Who, then I could live in many different times. Ok, wherever the Doctor takes me.
Read a book either set in that time period, or published in that time period. Or, read a book about time travel where the character’s time travelled to that period.

44. Do you prefer shoes or bare feet? – barefoot
Read a book where your selection is on the cover or in the title, or get creative and find a book that represents your choice.

45. Do you prefer green or black olives? Neither? Yuk! Neither
Read a book with either a predominantly green or black cover depending on your answer. If you said “neither”, read a book with a predominantly white cover. Aim for at least 75% of the cover so that when you look at the cover, it screams green, black or white depending on your choice.

46. What is your Zodiac sign? – Leo
This one is wide open. Read a book that represents your zodiac sign in some way. Mine is Sagittarius (the archer). I could read a book with Sagittarius in the title, Archer in the title, author named Archer, bow and arrow on the cover, horse on the cover, a Western with Indians (bow & arrow).

47. What is your height in inches? – 66
Go to your TBR shelf and sort by number. Read the book that matches your answer. If you don’t have that many books on your TBR, select a listopia on a topic you are interested and read the book with the corresponding number to your height.

48. Who is someone you miss? – my mom (would it be really bad if Callie was a really close second?)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments The challenge is to read 12 books throughout the year based on the answers you made to the survey. You will receive a badge for completion of the challenge.

Additional badges will be awarded when you read an additional 12 books, and when you read all 50 books.

A possible 3 badges can be achieved in the challenge.

------------------------------------------------------------

When you complete a book for the challenge, you need to leave a new message in your personal thread explaining the following:

- a countdown of the badges you read - Part 1: 1/12, 2/12, 3/12, etc. If you are working on subsequent badges, you will need to preface with Part 2 or Part 3.

- the book you read, link to it and the cover

- the question it relates to

- an explanation as to how the book you chose relates to your answer to the question

------------------------------------------------------------

General Rules:

1. You must read 12 different books. You may not count one book for two questions. You may not repeat a question. For example, you can't read two books for question 1 and leave out question 2.

2. You may not combine books with the Monthly Challenge.

3. The challenge is from January 1, 2017 to December 31, 2017. You must start and complete your books within the year AND within the time that you start the challenge. If you are late to start the challenge, you may not count books prior to when you start even if they were started/read after January 1.

4. Books must be at least 175 pages long. They may be any genre (unless specified in a task) and in any format (audiobook, ebook, hardcover/paperback). In the case where the edition you read does not specify page numbers, we will go with the edition from the Goodread’s search function.

5. If a task refers to the title, the subtitle doesn’t count.

6. If a task refers to the cover, it will be based on the cover of the issue you decide to read.

7. You will need to start your own reporting thread in this folder to track your progress. There will be a thread set up to report your success in completing the challenge and requesting your badge.

Have fun!

Go Fetch! (Magnus Pack, #2) by Shelly Laurenston Go Fetch! by Shelly Laurenston

Queation 2. What is your favourite sport? – Ok, I'm going with fetch, the only problem is that for most of my dogs I've usually been the one doing the fetching :) Fetch is in the title, and the book is about a wolf-shifting pack. The snarky heroine (human) taunts some of the members with dog commands, and one of them is "fetch". This command is sometimes used when she has something the pack alpha wants, so she usually throws it and he has to get it.

Janice (jamasc) | 59911 comments It screams blue. :)

message 62: by Tejas Janet (new)

Tejas Janet (tejasjanet) | 3513 comments Lucky you with blue eyes. My mother loved to pretend my eyes were blue. Instead, always a chameleon green/hazel.

Seems like high number of blue eyes in the year long challenge. Yet brown eyes are most common. Interesting...

message 63: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59911 comments There's quite a few of us with green eyes too, and yet it's reported that there are only 2% of the population with green eyes.

message 64: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments TJ - when I was younger people would ask if I was wearing colored contacts. I noticed there were a lot of blue eyes too. I wonder if there's been a study to see if blue eyed people tend to read more (or participate in challenges more)). ☺

Janice - that just shows how much of a unique group we are :)
