Kelly (Maybedog) This discussion is for talking about the unabridged edition of The Diary of Anne Frank versus the original edition.

Mark Both have their merits, but having read the original some time ago I would be tempted to read the longer version were it not for the fact that I will not double dip in buying a book I already have.

Orinoco Womble (tidy bag and all) I grew up reading the abridged version in the late sixties and early seventies. Having found the complete (or at least most complete) version in the nineties, I have to say the cuts made for general publication at the time it was first published didn't surprise me, as in those days school children weren't supposed to read about sex etc.

I find it interesting that when I finally got hold of a copy of Anne's short stories, published in Anne Frank's Tales from the Secret Annex, there were several passages obviously drawn from her manuscript diary that appear in neither of the editions I have read.

Alicia I Purchased the unabridged edition & I devoured it.
This book is always going to be timeless.
I am glad they published it, having only read the abridged version, this huge fat volume I really found interesting.

Sara Testarossa Could someone who has read it tell me (using spoiler tags so if someone doesn't want to know before reading they don't have to) what the major additions are to the Definitive Edition? I want to know whether it's worth picking up. Thanks!

Duane Yeah, really - In fact, hasn't some OCD nerd somewhere obsessively extracted the exact passages that have been restored so those of us with a life (which probably excludes anyone on this website, but...) can just read whatever got removed and restored, rather than having to go back and plow through _the_ _whole_ _thing_ again?

I mean, if they'll go off and compare all 18 releases of some Jap anime and analyze *exactly* what frames got modified from one to the next and put up a whole *website* about it to make sure the world knows, surely... ... ...

Mary Thats what I heard that there was an original edition compared to the one we know of today.
