Books You Hate But Everyone Else Loves...

It seems that lately, I've fallen into this category. I can't stand The a Selection or Legend - but everyone seems to praise these books! I don't really get it. :/ I'd probably be invested if both main couples in these series weren't Mary Sues or Gary Stus...

Have any of you guys experienced this? Where you're in the vast minority when it comes to books?

Allegiant and The 5th Wave are the biggest I think. Also the Iron Fey, Delirium, Unearthly (I don't hate it but I hate how everyone loves it), Allegiant, and All Our Yesterdays. I HATE ALL THE BOOKS I LISTED!!!! It makes me so mad when everyone else fangirls all over them I just loathe them (the books) even more.

I actually really liked The Iron Fey, Delirium, and Unearthly. They're not without their faults, by any means, but they weren't so glaringly obvious as some of the others. *points to beginning post, lol*

I can understand your frustration with Allegiant, though. I was actually spoiled on what happened, so I didn't even bother reading it. Which is a shame, since I thought Divergent had a lot of potential. :/

Yeah, I think Veronica Roth is really talented, but she can't write a series. At least not yet, I think she'd be better at stand-alone novels. I liked Divergent, and then Insurgent was bad and Allegiant was just terrible. I don't really mind when people fangirl over less popular books that I hate, but when they fangirl over really popular books and EVERYBODY loves them *cough* The 5th Wave *cough*, I hate the books more.

Yeah, I remember being really engaged when I read Insurgent, but if you asked me anything about the book, I wouldn't be able to tell you about it. Obviously, it didn't make that much of an impact...

I've never read The Fifth Wave. Is it really that terrible? :/

The biggest one that everyone loves but me is Vampire Academy
Some others: Sweet Evil, Starcrossed, Inescapable, Significance,If I Stay,Infinity, The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer, and The Demon Trapper's Daughter.

There's some others, but I basically just went to my "hall of disappointment" shelf and listed the books with the highest average ratings.

YES. STARCROSSED. I do not understand the hype with those books, but I admit I did read all 3 because the cover for the last one is AMAZING.

I hated The 5th Wave because of the romance and the freaking aliens. YOU NEVER get too see what they look like, and some of the logic in it is just stupid.

Starcrossed was okay, I guess. It started out okay, but it started to drag after a while.

And I definitely sympathize with you concerning Vampire Academy. I read the first one to see what all the hype was about and it just didn't really do anything for me. That being said, I don't think it was necessarily bad, just not all that interesting.

It's kind of the same with me. I just felt like NOTHING HAPPENED. I wasn't interested at all until the very very end of the book and by then it was too late.

I read the Hunger Games to know what everything was about, I loved the first one, the second one was okay but i hated the third one...

I actually liked Vampire Academy, but I wasn't going to read the rest and then I left my book at home so I checked out Frost Bite to read during school and I don't think I'm reading anymore of them.

Yeah Starcrossed was okay, but It's definitely not hype-worthy. I also hated the 3rd Hunger Games, I couldn't even finish it. But I did like the 2nd one a lot more than the 1st. I just hate Peeta, so I couldn't like the 3rd one, also Katniss is a depressed little whiny wimp.

Lol, I actually loved all three Hunger a Games. I'm a die hard Peeta fan and I agree, zakat it's was pretty whiney throughout the third book, but I just reasoned it away with all she had been through...

I was team Gale so thats part o the reason but i dont know even if I was team peeta the ending didnt felt right to me

I dont really know but in the ending It was like katniss chose peeta only for her mental sanity and not because she really loved him

Yeah... While I'm team Peetniss, I do think Peeta was too good for her. She strung both boys along for too long...

I kinda was like that with the Infernal Devices. I knew who she'd end up with, but I was always a Jem fangirl. :3

I was Team Will from the begining but Jem is soooo cute <3<3 I cried a lot with those books and CoHF it's comming oit in three days! Im scared :S

Yeah, I admit Will and Tessa have more chemistry - and I knew that Jem's illness would most likely keep him from her, but I still hoped.

Everyone adores the book "Fangirl" by Rainbow Rowell and I just can't stand it. I am about halfway through the book and I will of course finish it, (on principle!) but I was so completely bored out of my skull. I REALLY want to love it! So many people love it! I am wondering if there is something wrong with me??

i hated because it has everything i dont need and does not have a story.
i did not feel like reading it but had to finish for the sake of it
i could never get into it. if i did i took up months to finish it. and book 2 is plain worse.

I hope nobody hurts me for this but... I didn't like The Fault in Our Stars *cowers in fear from crazed fangirls*. It's not that I hated it, I mean, John Green did a great job writing about death and illness and all it's complications, but I just don't think that it was holy-cow-jaw-dropping-world-shaking-amazing like half the teenage population do. What really gets me is when people say, "But it's so realistic!". REALLY? Since when do sixteen-year-olds talk like glorified neuroscientists? It's probably just me, but I really don't think it should have gotten half the attention it did.

I bow down to your comment. That's exactly how I feel. Don't get me wrong, I liked the book - and I love John Green - but I feel that it's overrated. Jodi Picoult did it years ahead of him.

YES I also liked it but it is DEFINITELY overrated. However, it does get kids reading who don't like reading because like all the kids that hate reading at my school will read TFIOS, Divergent, and The Hunger Games. So even if I don't like them, I do like the fact that they get kids reading.

I didn't like Shatter Me much. But I've been dared to read all of them so I'm finishing the series. The romance is soooo forced! I want her to not choose either guy because both are really bad choices in my opinion.

i am listen to ignite me whenever i want. but shatter me trilogy is too plain and full of angst, will take some time to complete it.

With this book I would say that I hate is not a strong enough word...
I found that the storyline and the book itself was bad. If you asked me anything, I would be like ' I have no idea what I read, so don't ask me about it'. I was struggling to finish this book and I never thought I would. Considering it is such a small book, I thought it would be an easy read, will I was DEAD WRONG! Anyway I should stop my rant now.

I will probably get a lot of hate for this and maybe get hunted and chased by a mob of readers but, I DISLIKE WITH A PASSION - NOT HATE

I read the first book in the series as well as being turned off for the series I was also lost in the storyline and in the world that Cassandra Clare created. A majority of my friends say that this is their favourite, or one of their favourite books, but I just don't see what is so good about it. From all the hype that my friends created I was expecting more. Maybe, my thoughts will change IF I continue the series and read 'City of Ashes'.

i would like this series if the author stops writing more shadohunter books. it is getting monotonous.there is nothing special/realistic about any of the characters except Jem and Izzy.
this series should have been more about good story than Jace/Will.

In regards to City of Bones: I wasn't crazy about the first book. And I'm also not a huge fan of Clary and Jace. I've grown more attached to the secondary characters--Simon, Izzy, Magnus, Alec. And I didn't really start becoming attached until I read City of Glass. I think it was City of Lost Souls, plus the entire Infernal Devices trilogy, that solidified my love for this series. It isn't my NUMBER ONE FAVORITE but it is definitely up there.

As for me? I have to pick The Selection by Kiera Cass. I don't hate, I don't even dislike with a passion, I just find the books very lackluster. And very superficial. I wanted more from those books--more rebels, more world building--but the romance is basically the entire plot. This isn't always a bad thing, but Cass could have made this series so much better, if she took the time to flesh out her world and her characters.

I like the selection series a lot but I agree with you on the world building. I felt that Cass just focused on the characters and the plot and not the world that they live in. Even though I gave the series 4 stars I still think that there are faults with it.
