Elle Pierre Hi everyone!! It's me again.
So, I recently had an idea for a series of genre-specific listopia lists celebrating indie authors, called, well-- "Ultimate Indie Authors". I created the first one (for Childrens>picture books) here: https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1...

I thought it would be a great way to promote/organize all the indie-authors and their titles on GR. Would anyone like to participate? I'd be happy to list your books for you, if you haven't upgraded to your author page (only readers/other users can list your titles if that happens...)

If this works, I'm hoping to branch out to other genres (middle-grade, YA, fantasy, etc.) and turn this into an ongoing thing.

Comment if you're interested! And don't forget to join the official group: https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/...

Lauren :)

Hi Charon! Thanks for commenting! I'm happy to announce that we now have a YA Ultimate Indie Authors list, and your books have been listed. See them here: https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1...

It's also been listed in the group's index.

Thank you!
Lauren :)

Cathy Kennedy | 65 comments Hi Lauren,

Thanks for posting your idea :)
I'd like to participate but my book doesn't seem to fit neatly into one genre. I think middle-grade and YA are best, although some reviewers have said otherwise, lol. It is completely clean and age-appropriate for younger readers.

It's called Meeting of the Mustangs and here's the GR link:

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3...

Thanks again!

Cathy

Alright! Thanks for participating, Ember and Lenita! I'll add your titles to the YA list.

Hi Cathy! You're very welcome! Thank you for participating! I can only make one list a day, so I'll list your book under the YA list for now. It's okay if your book(s) fall into several categories; I'll just add them to multiple lists.

Thank you everyone! I'm glad this idea of mine is being well received!
Lauren :)

Elle Pierre Justin wrote: "Is this only for Children's and YA books?"

Hey Justin,

The goal is to provide equal publicity and support for all independent authors on GR. However, since it's a public group, I'd like to keep the themes/genres at least semi-suitable for a general audience for the time being.

I may consider creating/passing the torch to someone to create an 18+ Ultimate Indie Authors group for more adult themes (horror, excessive violence, erotica, etc.), but not right now.

Thank you for showing interest in this project!
Lauren :)

Elle Pierre Justin wrote: "Is this only for Children's and YA books?"

Hi Justin,
I just wanted to add that the group is now open to all types of genres, as long as these guidelines are followed: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

I hope to see you there. Have a good Thanksgiving!
Lauren :)

Lisa Baeringer (goodreadscomlabaeringer) | 8 comments Hi Lauren. I have a book I'd like to list but it's a memoir. It doesn't contain adult like content such as sexual content or cursing. It was published by a small press. Would this fit the guidelines or no?

Hi Lisa,
Of course it fits! A new list has been created and I added your title here: https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1...

Have a good Thanksgiving!

N.B. Dixon | 61 comments Hi,

My novel, Heir of Locksley is due for release on December 1st and is published by a small UK press. I'd love to join the list, but I'm blind and there are certain visual tasks my software struggles with on Goodreads, so if someone could add me that would be great.

message 16: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer S. Alderson (jennifesalderson) | 49 comments HI Lauren, great idea!
Honestly, I'm still trying to figure out how lists work. If either of my books fit, it would be great of you to add them.

Down and Out in Kathmandu: Adventures in Backpacking mystery / thriller / travel fiction

The Lover's Portrait: An Art Mystery art mystery / thriller

I'm happy to do the same, just let me know!

Hi N.B.,

So I reviewed your book and I honestly have no idea where to place it if I were to list it. It uses preexisting characters (cast of Robin Hood), correct? I suppose I could fit it under YA, but I would prefer adding original stories with equally original characters to the list. But I'll have to think it over... I hope you'll understand.

Thank you for showing interest in this project!
Lauren :)

Hi Jennifer! Thank you!

I'll add your titles to the Fiction>Mystery list for now (since I currently haven't created lists for the other genres) : https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1...

Thanks for participating!

I have five titles on Kindle.

Two are most definitely mystery

Shall we gather at the river?

Who put her in?

I wonder if you would consider listing them?

Hey Jane,

I reviewed your mystery titles. I'll list them, however there will be some limitations due to the content: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Your books are listed here: https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1...

Thank you,

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) Are you just listing indie titles, or is there any vetting going on, and if so, by whom?

Lists are great - but quickly get filled with more than the average reader can handle.

Harold Titus (haroldtitus) | 104 comments I don't know how far-reaching you want to go. My historical novel, "Crossing the River," printed in 2011, is not YA fiction. Are you planning on having a historical fiction category? An American historical fiction category?

Hi Harold,

I hope to be able to provide equal-opportunities for all titles (provided they are appropriate for the general reader and/or follow these guidelines if not: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...). As to creating a historical fiction lists, it's in the works! Stay tuned...

Hey D.K.! Gosh, I'm going to be backed with future lists at this rate! Not complaining!

Your book sounds like an exciting read (congrats to *both* of you!). However, can you tell me if there is anything content-wise that might not be suitable for a general listing? Review here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/... and let me know. It's nothing personal.

Again, thank you all for your interest in this project! I've got my work cut out for me!

Thanks so much for your response, Lauren. Our book was written with a 15+ audience in mind due to some violence that is in it, but overall it is pretty tame. If I had to compare it to a movie to give an idea of the type of language/violence that it contains, a good one would be Pirates of the Caribbean.

Okay, great. Thank you for joining! We don't have a thriller list just yet, but it's on the list. Also if you could answer one thing for me, that would be great: 1) Is the content of your thrillers suitable for general readers (to a certain degree) or more geared toward adults (18+)? What about the short story collection?

Elle Pierre Hi everyone,

As of Sunday, December 4, 2016 @ 12:01:00 AM EST, I will be terminating this group. I thank and appreciate everyone who joined and participated in this project of mine. However, I think it would be better for me that I remain closer to my own niche as a writer. As for the lists, most likely they will be removed in the coming days, as this project will no longer exist. This decision is entirely personal to me. Thank you for the opportunity and your enthusiasm everyone. I wish you all the best for the holiday season.

Sincerely,
Lauren
