I should add that this is a British author. I remember the cover was a light Bluey colour. tried remembering the author and rhiannon lassiter came to mind however she didn't write the book as I couldn't find it under her titles. I think hex (her book) was out around the time I read this dream book. I also read castle in the air by Diana wynne jones at the same time.
Do you remember what time period the story takes place? Were there any other fantasy elements, like witches, dragons, etc?
Part of a series?
tab i couldnt remember any of it as i read it about 16 years ago and have always wanted to own it now i have the means (i was always broke when i read the book). js700 you might be my new favourite person i think this might be the book i was looking for!!!
Samina, please come back and let us know if Mirror Dreams is your book.
One Amazon reviewer describes the main character Laenon Kite as a "powerful mage, overly sarcastic, unassuming looking, highly cynical and always in the thick of things (even when he doesn't want be). He's nothing like a legend should be and everything a legend is. Humourous, gripping and completely original."

He teams up with a woman he always notices and she is a bit more substantial looking than other dreamers
Much later in the book in the real world he learns she was actually in a coma explaining why she was so 'real' in the dream world. I think the two meet in the real world at the end too.
