Tytti | 355 comments The first trailer from the movie based on Unknown Soldiers was just published, the premier will be in October. It looks pretty good, more realistic than the first two. I might even go to see it in the theather, I rarely do that. I really should read the book but I already know the story so well...

Fun fact: the scene at 0:55, where they are partying and drinking "kilju" (sugar wine), happens in June 4, 1942, so tomorrow will be its 75th "anniversary". The men are celebrating Commander-in-Chief Mannerheim's 75th birthday and got a better lunch and a portion of "cut brandy" each. (Reportedly 476 486 portions were distributed, to all men at the front.)

I really really hated this book! The whole time I was reading it I felt robbed, but I didn't want to not finish it, you know? Because the premise is so good. Anyway, hope the movie is better.

Shirley (stampartiste) I discovered a list on this website. It lists some titles I hadn't seen before. I'm leaning toward reading Three Little Words.

Saadia (saadiashamsie) | 6 comments I LOVE Agatha Christie books, so I'm super excited to read Murder on the Orient Express since that's set to release as a movie this year.

message 156: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) But Kenneth Branagh as Poirot? Weird...

Nancy Groves | 57 comments My book club chose "books into movies" as its theme for June, and we chose "The Circle" from among several options. I think we all wish we hadn't! None of us were terribly impressed, and one member who read the book right away urged us to change our minds and pick something else. While I felt the writing wasn't that impressive and there were huge plot holes, I think the book has an important theme about the positives and negatives of technology, particularly social media, and the increasing consolidation and conglomeration of diverse companies under one entity.

My book club just read this, and it was one of the rare occasions in which we universally disliked our choice. None of us have seen the movie, and I suspect none of us will bother.

Meredith | 18 comments I know Ready Player One doesn't come out until next year - but if you want to get technical, it is "becoming" a movie this year. It's just not being *released* until 2018.

Brandyn (brandy_k) | 82 comments I've had Mudbound on my TBR for several years and just found out Netflix made the movie and it will be released (on Netflix) this fall.

message 162: by Anshita (new)

Anshita (_book_freak) | 267 comments I decided to read It by Stephen King for this prompt. Not a popular choice. It's lengthy book, the trailer dropped and looks middling, hope the movie is worth watching.

poshpenny | 1916 comments Wonderstruck is set to be released in October. I'm really interested to see how this will be adapted, since it's format is so unique in print.

Chinook | 731 comments I'm reading First They Killed My Father: A Daughter of Cambodia Remembers for another prompt but a movie came out on netflix this year.

Susan (ofearna) wouldn't IT count, too?

since they're re-imaging the book (so many changes from 1958 to 1985) and making IT into two movies, I wasn't sure...

message 168: by Tara (new)

Tara Bates | 1008 comments Apparently the new one has more of the novel in it than the first one did. I don't think it matters much how true to the book it is anyway, it's just based on the book right? And it is. I would still count a book where the movie changed the ending, so why not count It?

message 169: by Claire (new)

Claire Robinson (gzxklair) | 0 comments Hey! Has anyone used '13 reasons why?' for this prompt...? I know it's a series and not a movie, so I'm not sure if it counts.

It specifically says movie. Doesn't say whether it needs to be a movie theater movie, so TV movie or Netflix movie or Hulu movie could all work but not a TV series.
