Boston Kate wrote: "Will it work if the "and" is used in a list? For example, could I use Life, the Universe and Everything and then read a book starting with "Universe" or "Everything"?"
Correct.
Correct.

For example, say I've picked Flesh and Bone as my Book 1. Could I use 206 Bones for Book 2, or would it have to be something like, say, The White Bone to satisfy the task?

Book 1: Jane and the Prisoner of Wool House
Book 2: Jane and the Ghosts of Netley

So, I think I will change to Dipped, Stripped, and Dead with Dead Silence with book #2.

No, the task says "Words must match exactly."
Your book 2 title would need to begin with Flesh or Bone.

Sorry, no, if using Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone book B's title must begin with "Potter" or "The Sorcerer's".

Read 2 books, one book 1 and one book 2
Book 1: Read a book with a title or subtitle that contains an “and” coordinating conjunction phrase: “[word] and [word]”. Ampersands “&” are considered “and” for this task.
Book 2: Using the “and” phrase from Book 1, read a book whose title begins with one of the words joined by the “and” as described below. Words must match exactly.
Use the word immediately preceding the “and”
OR
Use the word following the “and”. If the word is an article (the, a, an) you must also use the word that follows the article.
Example
Book 1: A Court of Thorns and Roses.
Book 2’s title must begin with “Thorns” or “Roses”
Book 1: The Rose and the Thorn.
Book 2’s title must begin with “Rose” or “The Thorn”
Book 1: An Officer and a Spy.
Book 2’s title must begin with “Officer” or “A Spy”
