Thank you Els - so glad you enjoyed it :)

That is all our first round reviews in - a gentle reminder, to those who have not yet done it, that Round 2 has as its deadline the 16 Jan :)

Note: This message is being posted in every active group.

it is not acceptable to contact reviewers after a review had been posted, except to say ‘thank you’. Asking a review to change a review is strictly prohibited. It is also not acceptable to contact a reviewee before you post your review.
This group is about getting honest reviews, and that includes the good, the bad and very occasionally, the ugly. Simply put, if you don’t want honest reviews, this isn’t the place for you.

I agree, Stuart. I appreciate Emma's reminder. Contacting people after a review has been posted, trying to bully or sweet talk them into changing a review is not appropriate.

I once sent a reviewer my children's story minus the illustrations. The person rated it, and mentioned the lack of needed illustrations. I could have gone back to that person and said, "Oh, here is the story with the illustrations. Read it again." However, I didn't, because it would have been inappropriate, and unfair to that person. The person had honestly rated what he had been given, and that was that. Of course, now I've learned to be more careful and send the correct documents, so it was a lesson learned.

Ah, the PDF: I've been sent several copies of books in PDF form to read on my Kindle. Problem is my Kindle doesn't expand the font size for PDFs and my vision is no longer capable of reading very tiny text. I have to print out the entire book to print it.
So, a brief plea, if I may: If you're sending out a book for review in PDF form, please ensure it's in a reasonable font size before you dispatch it, because I'm sure I'm not alone regarding this problem.

I might suggest you download Calibre - I use it to convert ebooks and PDFs to .mobis. It is so simple even I can use it and it makes life a lot easier. Of course the resulting formatting may occasionally not be perfect, but then I just don't comment on that in my review...

You can get it, free, HERE

Thanks, E.M. I have Calibre installed on my Mac but I'd forgotten it was there and also forgotten it had this facility. Thanks for the reminder! Put it down to old age and drink!

Scott Spotson (scottspotson) Sigh, good point Emma, about not contacting reviewers after a review has been posted. Although, I think exceptions can be made for genuine, advice-soliciting requests for how a book can be improved without any criticism of the review and also making it clear that responses while welcome don't have to be done. For example, I've often found it very helpful when reviewers left me their list of typos or continuity mistakes.

A few weeks ago, a reviewer added a scathing message with personal accusations of me, added to her old review of my book, even though the review of my book was done more than a year ago through an official Goodreads ten-person review group and it was also a year ago that I made the mistake of privately saying to her that I wasn't pleased with her original review. Not sure why this person amended her review more than a year after the fact. But I don't see how a public comment on Amazon or Goodreads helps make the situation any better, or give the chance for both sides to heal and move on. If anything it might reflect more poorly on the accuser than the target? Also, is the public forum really the most optimal way for defusing a situation, since whatever I did was privately worded in the first place and I never made it public?

Like everyone else, I want to move on and learn from my mistakes. Your caution is most welcome, Emma.

Thanks for that Stuart. I make that your fourth and final contribution here. I hope you have enjoyed the round and that we can look forward to seeing you in future ones.

Quick catch up as Round 3 is due tomorrow:

J. D. Wilde and Els Boot still have Round 3 & 4 to submit.
N.L.J. and Seth Levens are on their last round books.

If anyone disagrees with that, please do let me know and I'll double check my records.

Thanks.

Many thanks for your positive and thoughtful comments, J.D. The next book in the series is currently under way, and it's written in a standard narrative form, which I think suits the new story well.

Just two reviews outstanding before we close J. D. Wilde and
