Book 1 Rebel of the Sands
Read 12/7/16
4 Stars
I really liked this book. It was a BOM for one of the reading groups that I belong to on goodreads and I put off reading it for months. I just really didn't think I was going to like it. But it was a well written story with an interesting plot line and good pacing with likable characters.

Book 2 The Likeness
Read 12/14/16
4 Stars
I really liked this one too. I liked the characters, and the story was good. It did tend to drag at times, but the detail was nice, and important to the story. I am looking forward to reading more of this series.

Luxury Tax! Crap!
Luxury Tax/Income Tax – Read a book with a rich character, a really poor character or someone that works in a bank. 150 pages or more.

Sigh. Off to read. :(

Maddie (maddisonbruce) | 3778 comments You read for the challenge Karrie?

message 58: by Kay Kay (last edited Dec 15, 2016 07:18PM) (new)

Kay Kay | 72 comments Uh.. What challenge?

I really, really love to read! When I go on vacation my goal is to read a book a day! That's a good vacation! I also really like to read to unwind after work.

If you have group challenges here and want to be a team, let me know. I do like challenges. They help me chose what to read next.

In Every Heartbeat

I liked this book, but I found it to be kind of trite and a little preachy. The characters were not very believable or relatable. It's too bad, I wanted it to be a good book.

message 60: by Maddie (new)

Maddie (maddisonbruce) | 3778 comments Do you read for Monopoly? Or do you read random books and hope they'll fit?

Reading Railroad.
Hi Nancy! Nice little railroad you have here. I might be in for a long ride. I hope you serve lunch! ;)

Let me know what you recommend!

message 62: by Kay Kay (last edited Dec 15, 2016 07:22PM) (new)

Kay Kay | 72 comments A little of both. That's what I do with all of my challenges. For Pennsylvania Avenue I had to chose specific books.

How about you?

message 63: by Maddie (new)

Maddie (maddisonbruce) | 3778 comments I never read for this challenge, only for timed ones haha.

message 64: by Kay Kay (new)

Kay Kay | 72 comments That makes sense. I told myself I would try to read all of the BOM's for another group for the year, and they pick three books a month. So I am scrambling to finish all of those.

Maddie (maddisonbruce) | 3778 comments Oh wow good job!

Karrie, Welcome to the Reading Railroad. I do serve lunch and dinner and you will be in first class so you will not be disturbed while you read.

I will recommend you the book: Along Came a Spider. I am a huge James Patterson fan and love the Alex Cross series by him. This is the first book in the series. I'm not sure if you do like James Patterson or have tried him. Can't wait to read your review on this book.

Thank you for reading the Reading Railroad. Enjoy your book and your stay.

message 67: by Maddie (new)

Maddie (maddisonbruce) | 3778 comments Oh yeah I've read that book, but never gotten around to the rest in the series. I really want to though!

message 68: by Kay Kay (new)

Kay Kay | 72 comments I acutally stumbled across number 15 in the series and read it and really liked it. I then went on to read Along Came a Spider, but have not read any more in the series. Can I read number 2 Kiss the Girls instead?

message 69: by [deleted user] (new)

Yes, you can.

Book: Fallen by Lauren Kate
Read: 12/18/16

Review: I didn't like this book much. There wasn't any central plot going on, I don't like the main character, and the love triangle is overused. I didn't feel connected to the characters. I felt like this book wasn't anything special. I didn't even feel any anticipation for the next book.

Book: Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman
Rate: 3 stars
Review: I didn't enjoy it as much as other reviewers seemed to have, but it's most likely because I'm not used Gaiman's writing style. It's very new to me, but reading this book was interesting. Very weirded out at some points, but I still found it an interesting read all-in-all.

Book Kiss the Girls
Rate 2 stars
Review: Compared to the first book this one was a let down. The characters made some foolish decisions that just seemed out of character to me. I was disappointed, but I will continue the series at some point. I really wanted to like this book, and I have read some of his other series as well, so I will not give up hope. I like Alex Cross, I just did not like this book.

Well, that was a nice little train trip on a lovely railroad! The rocking of the train and the cushy seats kept putting me to sleep when I tried to read, so it took me longer than I thought!

Thank you Nancy.

Book: Vampire Academy (Vampire Academy, #1) by Richelle Mead
Read: 1/2/17
Rate: 5 stars
Review: This will always be my favorite series as it makes me laugh at some part in the book. This was my first book that I read by Richelle Mead and when I read the first sentence, I was hooked. This was my second re-read and I was still hooked. Love this series.

Book: City of Glass by Cassandra Clare
Rating: 4 stars
Review: I really liked this book better than the first two because everything was getting tight and problems were starting to happen. A lot of crazy things happened. There's also some good plot twists (I think. I accidentally spoiled myself on it so I'm not sure). The problem I had was how some things were just left open at the end, like with Ragnor Fell, the Inquisitor's death, and also Malachi's betrayal. They weren't mentioned anymore after Valentine's attack. I just wondered what the people's reactions were about it or if they were ever informed of it at all.

OH!!!! So sorry! I haven't checked in for a while! I feel so bad!
I will recommend a short book to make up for it.
I am from Minnesota and have recently discovered a cozy mystery series set here!
How about
Chocolate Chip Cookie Murder It is a quick and easy read, and if you do audio books the narrator is pretty good too!
Enjoy

Kick back, try a recipe from the book, and enjoy the ride on my railroad!

Chocolate Chip Cookie Murder Pg 76
A quick easy read about a mystery set in a small fictional town in northern Minnesota. I really liked this one.

Vision in White Pg 28
This one was kind of fun too. The characters were interesting and the idea of a bridal business as a setting for a romance novel was fun and unique.

Well, I was away from our game for a while and caused Nancy to have to wait a long time for her recommendation, so I would say that gamble did not pay off. So ready to roll....

You suggested that I read Chocolate Chip Cookie Murder, but I read that last year and didn't really care for it. Is there another book that you could recommend me? Thanks.
