Not a rule, per se, since you are free to post whatever review you see fit; but since the goal of this group is to help, not hurt each other, it is preferred that you don't post low-star reviews, only tell your concerns to the author (or a mod) in private.

"If you can't find anything positive to say, you may want to email the author (or PM one of the mods if you feel uncomfortable) and provide your review with your reasoning on why you didn't like it. You may still choose to post it since it is your right to do so (we can't all like every book), but it would be preferable if you chose not to."

If you start a book, and don't like it, it's usually best to just return it to the pool, and choose another one instead.

The review has to be at least on .com, unless the author has agreed to not have the review appear there. Has he agreed to this before you asked for his book?

You can choose to review another book immediately, but you have to be able to post reviews on amazon.com. If you are not able to post reviews there, then I will not be able to give you credit, unless the author agrees to not having the review on .com. This has to happen BEFORE asking for the book. Asking for the book to review removes the book from the pool. If you later find out that you are not able to post the review, the author may have missed out on someone choosing his book.
