Jo (glitchyspoons) | 13 comments Hello!

I read this book around 2008. Was waiting for the sequel to be published but got distracted by life.

Parts of the book I remember:

* Lead is a woman

* Main character is named Rose or it's apart of the title. I really can't remember.

* There is a group of people who sail/are involved with ships, and they write in knots?

* A wizard keeping a woman captive or just away from the world for her "protection" or something. This is is vague, idk if it's right. But there is a wizard of some sort.

* A king or something, becomes involved with a woman I think he's uncontrollably "in love" with her? Her powers are causing it (tho from what I can remember she's not doing it on purpose. Totally could be wrong).

* There is also a group of side characters where one has a map tattooed to his body, and his partner checks it with candle light because it's moving. They're from what I remember thieves or something.

The author is a woman who studied JRR Tolkien and about Iceland, or enjoyed Iceland mythology/ JRR Tolkien. Believe she is from the UK

While I don't really recognize your book Jori, I sure plan on adding it to my TBR mountain range when it is ID'ed. (The mountain range is starting to rival the Himalayas for size. Gotta get more time for reading.)

Jo (glitchyspoons) | 13 comments I wish my towns library had a way I could look through the books I've checked out previously. That would be nice. Cos' it was a really interesting story. I plan on digging at the library so if I find it before anyone figures it out I'll let you know.

Sue Blaikie | 161 comments I think this is possibly the Fool's Gold trilogy by Jude Fisher, aka Jane Johnson who also wrote the visual companions to The Lord of the Rings. I have read the trilogy, a long time ago, and from what I remember, many of your details fit.
