Savanna Gren Period 4 Hatchet By Gary Paulsen A young boy flies out to Canada to visit his father. On the way there the pilot who was the only other person in the plane had a heart attack and crashed the plane into a lake. The young boy has to learn to survive for months until help finally arrives.
The setting isn't that crucial to the book. It would only change a few things like if this took place in the three thousands there would probably be no forest whats so ever so he couldn't get that lost and there would be cell service every where so he could just call is dad to pick him up. If this book took place in like seventeen forty two there would've been no planes to crash. He would travel by horse or boat. He would probably die from the long trip which wouldn’t really make a good story. The conflict is different from other books. The main conflict is man vs. the wild. Brian fights the harsh weather and has to find food. He also fights off a couple animals as well. There is also some man vs self because Brian has to keep himself from going insane. I really liked this book. I have read it many times and it has been one ot the only books that I have read that i actually enjoyed. It really kept me engaged and wanting to read more. It didn't necessarily grab me in the beginning but then when the plane crashed i just wanted to read and read and read more.
