As children of the universe, we human beings also have positive and negative energies within us, because the entire universe is composed of positive and negative energies (in a physical or metaphysical sense).
Bringing this language of positive and negative energy into the philosophical / moral / spiritual context, they become the “good and evil” that so many stories are written about, rules are dictated about, and wars are fought about. In reality, there’s a little bit of good and evil in all of us; it’s a matter of how much, that the stories are made up about. The spiritual journey tends to lead a person towards more positivity (though not always), so beware that we can become judgmental of others who are struggling with their negatives, or sins, or vices.
The truth of the matter is, that the universe cannot exist without positive and negative energies! Human beings cannot exist without both good and bad within them. When we transcend the concept of goodness and evil, we transcend being human at all (we become evolved, enlightened souls, but that’s another story). If the universe someday becomes filled with only negative energy, it might explode in an apocalypse; however the opposite is also true – if the universe someday becomes filled with only positive energy, it might implode upon itself.
So for this Creation to continue, it is necessary to sustain the positive and the negative, the good and the evil, the ups and the downs, the tsunamis and the earthquakes – that’s how the universe balances itself; and the human race similarly tries to balance its own victories and vices.
