It's a book I read about 30 years ago, possibly published in the late 70s/ early 80s. As far as I remember, it's about a cantankerous artist who seduces his models, and both and daughter end up modelling for him before WW2 and going into the war. He is a conscientious objector and refuses to become politically involved in the war on either side. Makes his own canvases by boiling rabbit bones to use as a coating for sheets when rationing causes his supply of ready made canvases to dry up. Any clues? Many thanks!
