Bonnie My guiltiest read has to be my weekly purchase of trash Magazines aka (US weekly, In Style) I always feel weird pulling them out on the subway. I once found out I wasn't the only one when I caught my co-worker sneakingly reading Cosmo under a Time life Magazine at work.

(I like to do the Hit or Miss quiz on people.com)

message 3: by Lori (new)

Lori No contest for me - People Mag. Don't buy them except if there's an interesting looking cover story, and then only at Costco (30% off!), but it's the first thing I'll check when I go to the library. If they had US I'd check those out too!

Heather (heatherjoy) | 384 comments Twilight and people.com...

Anne Rice. I still love Anne Rice. I've reread Cry to Heaven and the The Feast of All Saints at least four times each.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Along the same lines, Laurell Hamilton. She's bad, I know it, but I can't stop reading her.

message 8: by Bonnie (new)

Bonnie I always get a chuckle at women reading romance novels in public. You know the ones with Fabio on the cover haha

message 9: by Jamie (new)

Jamie (jamiemccormick) Harry Potter...

all of them...

*sheepish grin*

message 10: by [deleted user] (new)

My guiltiest ever read was Jenna Jameson's autobiography, How to Make Love Like a Porn Star. I was more impressed with the fact that she managed to squeeze nearly 600 pages than the fact that she bothered to write this in the first place.

Yeah, it was pretty trashy. I read it. So what.

message 11: by Bonnie (new)

Bonnie Gus..I have to admit that I read a few chapters at a friends house..and thought the same thing.

message 12: by [deleted user] (new)

I did feel guilty reading Twilight.

One of my professors always tells the story of one of her undergrad sociology classes at Iowa where their assignment was to read a trashy romance novel in public and endure the mockery and the chuckles. It would be humiliating.

message 14: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I have never felt guilty about reading anything.

message 15: by Chloe (new)

Chloe (countessofblooms) | 347 comments Gus, I often find myself wondering just how many of the words in that book are Jamesons and how many belong to Neil "Ghostwriter For The Stars" Strauss.

My guiltiest read has to be all of the old Battle Tech and Mech Warrior scifi books that I read. I had forgotten just how into them I used to be until I was sorting through some boxes of books and found over five dozen of the books. What can I say? I like giant fighting robots. Someone has to protect us from the giant zombie squid.

message 16: by Heather (new)

Heather (heatherjoy) | 384 comments According to Monster Quest, the Giant zombie squid may be real ;)

Morgan (neimanmarxist) | 32 comments Larry wrote: "I have never felt guilty about reading anything."

I'm with you Larry. Even Laurell K. Hamilton and Harry Potter don't make me feel guilty. :)

message 18: by Gary (new)

Gary THE SOOKIE STACKHOUSE NOVELS. a real guilty pleasure! i can't believe i am reading them, not great lit at all, but really enjoying them, and guilty because i am not doing what i need to be doing, because i am hooked. i've read 6 of the 8 books (in paperback at this time),and just started #7!

message 19: by Gary (new)

You can watch online as well...

Félix (habitseven) Got it. Thanks!

Heather (heatherjoy) | 384 comments Gary wrote: "the hbo 1st season is a gas! you must rent, buy,and watch. called TRUEBLOOD!"

I read the series, and I've seen the show. I thought Bill was even more of a pansy on the show than he is in the books...

message 25: by Gary (new)

Gary i watched the old movie FAREWELL TO ARMS with gary cooper and helen hayes. always wanted to see it,and i could download it free. it was great! and pretty good quality!

Would I still enjoy the books even if I've watched nearly all of season 1?

message 27: by Heather (new)

Heather (heatherjoy) | 384 comments Sally wrote: "Would I still enjoy the books even if I've watched nearly all of season 1?"

Yes, The books are better.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments I read the Sookie Stackhouse books, too. But I don't feel guilty about them. Sookie's got class.

message 29: by Chloe (new)

Chloe (countessofblooms) | 347 comments Ahhhhh! As if I needed more reasons to avoid the ocean! Thanks for that, Heather. ;)

And I will concur with the Sookie Stackhouse love, though I have long since throttled any guilt I had about loving them.

message 30: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments I have no guilt about having read the Harry Potter, Sookie Stackhouse, His Dark Materials, or the Twilight series. I've even read (and shared) Midnight Sun.

message 31: by Heather (new)

Heather (heatherjoy) | 384 comments Anytime Logan. Glad to be of assistance.

message 32: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments I read Entertainment Weekly. Is it so wrong? Maybe.

Books I've read about which I feel guilty...I can't think of any. They had a purpose at the time, I suppose.

How does one throttle their guilt, Logan?

message 34: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Sounds like a highly technical question.

Use your imagination, Sally.

I think you've just pinpointed the epitome of "guilty read", Matthew.

message 37: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments Matt, you win the prize! :)

message 39: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments I'd read over his shoulder (of course, trying to respect your bubble, Matt) if I'd been there.

I read my mom's too. The worst is when I discovered her code of stars to denote days they'd had sex.

message 41: by Lori (new)

Lori That'll teach you not to spy Sally!

message 42: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments Sally wrote: "I read my mom's too. The worst is when I discovered her code of stars to denote days they'd had sex. "

I just chuckled so heartily, I had a headrush. :)

HAHHAHAAAAAHAHHA!!!

message 43: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Wait. Code? Like...were there different codes for, ahem, different events, or just one code for sex?

message 44: by Lori (new)

Lori Wait - did she rate the sex by assigning different amount of stars?????

message 45: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Lori and I are on the same page here.

Chloe (countessofblooms) | 347 comments Sally wrote: "I read my mom's too. The worst is when I discovered her code of stars to denote days they'd had sex. "

I would think that the worst would be realizing that was the reason they made you go to bed early that night...

message 47: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Dear Diary,

Won't Sally ever go to sleep?

message 48: by Lori (new)

Lori Gahahaha!

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments HAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Man, some things should NOT be contemplated, like, EVER. Or you might end up writhing...

message 50: by Sally, la reina (new)

Sally (mrsnolte) | 17373 comments Mod
Right? I think that the # of stars rated her # of orgasms, but it could also be the # of times they "did it".
There were more symbols than just stars, I believe, sometimes.

Excuse me, I have to go do something completely wholesome and mind numbing now.
